Cambodia Produces Organic Rice
CategoriesIn a conversion to organic agriculture, certified by a German agency, Cambodia is converting a large swath of rice paddies to organic production. Farmers are happy because they save on fertilizers and pesticides, because their health is better without the poisons, and because organic farming gives them hopes of a more adequate recompense for their labours. Officials say they want to build up a niche for the country's organic produce in the international food market. Prospects are good because organic products fetch better prices than the conventional variety, and there is certainly no glut as yet.
