Quackbusters, Skeptics and the Web of Trust

What are 'quackbusters', you might ask.

Well, Tim Bolen has the answer to that question. On his site (quackpotwatch.org) he explains:

The "quackbuster" operation is a conspiracy. It is a propaganda enterprise, one part crackpot, two parts evil. It's sole purpose is to discredit, and suppress, in an "anything goes" attack mode, what is wrongfully named "Alternative Medicine." It has declared war on reality. The conspirators are acting in the interests of, and are being paid, directly and indirectly, by the "conventional" medical-industrial complex.

These so-called quackbusters seem to be a branch of a larger movement, the "skeptics". Their website at www.skeptic.com/ shows who they are. Skeptics think of themselves as having opinions based on scientific 'truth'. They are very outspoken and very much "out there" to disabuse the rest of us of any idea that does not fit into their version of the scientific world view.

While real scientific procedure requires there to be observation and experiment, formation and testing of hypotheses, and open discussion of both experiment and theories, the skeptics have firmly made up their mind on a number of issues. And they don't hesitate to tell us where we are going wrong...

Mercury and fluoride for instance are not poisons for skeptics, and anyone who thinks they are must clearly be a conspiracy nut.

Vaccination is good for you, as are chemotherapy and radiation cancer treatments offered by conventional medicine. If you oppose either of them you are simply a 'quack' or at the least you are an easy target for those who take advantage of your stupidity.

The practices of alternative medicine, including "chiropractic, the placebo effect, homeopathy, acupuncture, and the questionable benefits of organic food, detoxification, and ‘natural’ remedies" are a favorite subject of the skeptics. They know that only mainstream medicine should be relied on and everyone who is into those practices really needs to have their head examined.

For a real skeptic, anyone with psychic abilities is a fraud. It goes without saying that no one can possibly be able to influence the physical world with their mind without cheating like a stage magician.

Those who question the mainstream hypothesis that a trend of global warming is caused by human technologies emitting too much CO2 or by cow poop producing methane gas are labeled "deniers" by the skeptics. Regardless of what you think about global warming, a scientific hypothesis is always open to question. Experiments or new insights either confirm or contradict the hypothesis. That is how science works ... or how it is supposed to work.

The three skyscrapers that collapsed on September 11, 2001 did so substantially on their own, brought down by rather smallish fires. Anyone who thinks that there may have been foul play or controlled demolition at work has been misled, according to the skeptics who, strangely, don't seem to be skeptical about the official story at all.

Well, you get the idea. The skeptics seem to be a bunch of cynical know-it-alls who believe they have been fed wisdom by the spoonful from the time they were very small.

And then there are, mainly in North America, the 'quackbusters', those skeptics who concentrate their efforts on alternative medicine. Tim Bolen at his website - quackpotwatch.org - has some scathing remarks about them and he reports, on his site, about a streak of bad luck these so-called quackbusters are having in recent legal cases as a result of their reporting and challenging before the medical boards some of the more successful doctors who practice natural medicine.

How and why the quackbusters have been attacking natural medicine (anything that's not part of the conventional, pharma-controlled western medical paradigm) is laid out in a special page on Tim Bolen's site titled Who are these so-called "Quackbusters"?...

Quackbusters and the Web of Trust

Now with the 'quackbusters' being a rather localized North American phenomenon, could we not just let the American Health Freedom people take care of them? Not many outside of the US seem to really listen to the skeptics, and they are obviously losing their war...

Well, there is one point that may need our attention. The 'quackbusters' have developed the internet as a tool for their propaganda, and that has extended their reach way beyond just the USA. They have practically hijacked an internet reputation program called "Web of Trust" which tells people who are surfing the net what are reliable, well reputed sites and which ones are the bad ones, the sites to stay away from...

What is this Web of Trust and how have the quackbusters been using it to their advantage?

The web of trust is a crowdsourced rating system for websites which means that in an ideal world people, as they surf the net, rate sites depending on whether they find them reliable or not, whether they had a good experience buying something there or not, or whether they would allow their children to see a site or not.

The quackbusters and in a larger sense the skeptics, have made it their business to give bad ratings to sites that warn of vaccine dangers, sites that are critical of pharma's products, sites that advocate natural cures, especially if they are cures for cancer, anything that challenges the established consensus, the status quo. And of course as they were at it, they voted up their own sites as "reliable"...

Since this was done as a well organized group action, we now have a situation where many of those site ratings are somewhat slanted ... towards the view of the skeptics. Natural alternatives are bad, pharma is good, conventional medicine can do no harm.

I believe it is time to undo that damage and I would like to enlist your help.

Here is what you can do.

WOT or Web of Trust is a browser add-on that anyone can download. You find the program at

http://www.mywot.com/en/download

and here is a video that explains how WOT is supposed to work and what the ratings mean.

Get your copy, install it with your browser and start looking around at your favorite health related sites, to see how they are rated. As you see each site, you will be able to give your rating for the site. Don't be shy.

By their comments you shall know them...

People using the WOT rating tool can also comment on the content of a site. Some of those comment are quite revealing of the mindset of your average skeptic or quackbuster. Here is a little selection:

"Ethical issues - It shows that AZT treatment for HIV and fluoridation are all fraud... I think THEY are fooling us."

"Adult content - Diese "pseuodheilmethoden" haben schon Leben gekostet, wie im Fall von Geerd Hamer auch von Kindern. [These pseudo healing methods have already cost lives, even of children as in the case of Geerd Hamer]"

"Ethical issues - medical advice about as useful as a doctor who does not believe in germs"

"Hateful or questionable content - What can I say, other than that this site is dangerous for medical advice, is batsh!t insane, and is pro-psuedoscience and pro-psuedohistory. And the web design hasn't really changed since 2002, it seems."

"Hateful or questionable content - Stupidity, conspiracy theories and outright bigotry. As nutty as a squirrel's breakfast and as informative as a Glaswegian drunk. Dangerous for your health."

"Ethical issues - This site is filled with lies, fake science and bull5hit"

There are also some reasonable comments, like this one here

"Useful, informative - I came to this site to look up "Human Radiation Experiments" - which occurred in the 50's thru the 70's and the info is accurate. I'm not sure what all these other people are talking about, but I give this site a high rating based on what I am researching."

but those aren't that many, and they are listed far down the list of comments. Each user also has a voice in rating comments, which sends the individual comment to the top (if rated "up") or down to the bottom (if enough people disagree and rate it "down") of the listing.

I have started using WOT and have also commented (and voted on comments), but of course one person makes little difference.

That is why I am asking your help here.

The skeptics are very busy, but their numbers aren't that great. Even just a hundred or two hundred users who appreciate natural medicine and proper, un-censored information, can reverse the damage and bury the skeptics.

WOT ratings of a site also influence google results. So helping with the voting will bring the natural alternatives into view again on searches and it might plummet the rating and listing of skeptic sites, which seem to be at the very top of the heap right now.

We will be much better off for it, as information once more starts to circulate freely and without that artificial distortion imposed by the skeptic crowd.

Once again, here is the link to download the WOT browser add-on

The Bio-Chemical Matrix - The Myths of Matrix Science

The medical system kills 225,000 people a year.
(Starfield, JAMA, July 26, 2000, "Is US health really the best in the world?")

"In principle, gene therapy is a medical miracle waiting to happen ... after 17 years of trying, scientists are still struggling to make gene therapy work. Complications include rejection of DNA carriers ... [and] new genes end up where they shouldn't, or behave unpredictably."
("Gene Therapy: Is Death and Acceptable Risk?", Wired, Brandon Keim, August 30, 2007)

MARCH 28, 2012 - In discussing Matrix Science, I'm reminded of Philip Dick's sensational novel, Lies, Inc. It proposes an invention that can teleport humans light-years to a planet where a better way of life exists. The author then spends the rest of the book deconstructing this utopian legend and revealing the truth and the titanic power-grab that sit behind it.

Then there is HG Well's 1933 classic novel, The Shape of Things to Come, in which a world exhausted by war and economic collapse turns to a Global State as the only possible solution, after all other solutions have historically failed. This new ruling authority is based on Science. All religions are crushed. Education is designed to teach every child how to become a genius/global citizen. Eventually, the State withers away and is of course replaced by a spontaneous Utopia.

Science/technology: the final all-encompassing answer.

A significant aspect of Matrix propaganda revolves around myths about how human behavior can be transformed. Transformed through advances in biology and chemistry.

Populations are being trained to expect these momentous changes. A major selling point: no effort is required. Just ingest this tablet. Accept this new gene. All will be done for you by experts. Technocrats will design the future so you will fit into it happily.

The technocratic wing of Globalism has clout. It promises management of the planet through science, and who can argue with science? Central Planning will ensure proper benefits for all.

My late friend and colleague, hypnotherapist Jack True, once told me in an interview:

"It's all about managing expectation on a subconscious dream level-the idea is to insert a vision in the population about scientific improvements. Instead of each individual creating his own vision, we're essentially being told it can be done for us, with care and concern and even love. All we have to do is go along with it. We're being taught to accept what amounts to a new religion. It's a fetish. Do you see? We're buying an elaborate fetish about the future."

My readers know I've spent a great deal of time exposing the destructive dangers of medical drugs, but now I'd like to home in on them from another angle.

We're so used to their presence, we now take them for granted. Everyone ingests them. Many take them in combinations.

And yes, there are times when you may decide you need one.

But all in all, they are a fetish. A bizarre affectation.

We know about the enormous profits to be made by the pharmaceutical companies. We know these companies exploit and create markets. We know they also invent diseases in order to sell the drugs. We know many people use the drugs as a crutch.

But if we can back up far enough from all this, we can begin to see the fetishistic aspect.

What would you, for example, think if you saw the same person every day getting off a train, and every day he was wearing a different color paint on his face? And what if he was wearing a hundred large trinkets around his waist? And he was fingering these trinkets in deep contemplation? And what if he carried a large book with him and stopped strangers randomly and read passages to them? Passages about symbols from the sixth dimension. What if he bowed deeply every time he saw a bus and fell to his knees when a woman in a hat passed him on the street? What if he stopped after every fourteen steps and cupped his hands and then opened them, as if he was releasing a bird? And what if he also spun around 4.5 times at every street corner.

You would begin to realize he was in the middle of a strange ritual.

And this is what medical drugs have become. A ritual.

Their vast proliferation, apart from any effects they have, add to the fetish.

A space alien who knew nothing about medical practice would eventually notice the drugs and wonder what they were for. He would perhaps wonder whether swallowing them was part of an ongoing religious ceremony. He would see how dedicated people are to their medicines.

"I take this drug at six every morning. Then after breakfast, I take these two pills. Before lunch, I take three other pills. The green and the red and the white."

Yes, people believe their bodies can do bad things to them, like demons, and they ward off these creatures with the pills.

The swallowing of the pills is a fetish.

"I love the small white capsules. They look so pristine, so pure, so elegant. Because they're small, they must be very powerful."

The doctor, the priest, prescribes them. He dispenses them. When he writes the prescription at his desk, the patient feels, for a moment, an elevated sense of importance. The patient has attained a special privilege. He is no longer common. A thread has been created that connects him to a higher reality. The "science" that lies behind every pill is sophisticated. Who can grasp it? Just bask in the sensation and accept the secret knowledge.

The scrawl on the prescription pad is incomprehensible. But the pharmacist, the acolyte and minion, will understand it. If the filling of the prescription took place in a cave with candles, the patient would understand.

When it comes to psychiatric drugs, the public is being instructed to believe that the pills, which flow from arbitrary diagnoses of unproven mental disorders, can make them whole again. The age-old dream achieved.

And now we are on the cusp of another medical fetish:

GENES.

They've solidly entered the lexicon. Everybody talks about them. Amateurs and professionals alike speculate and intone on their importance-despite the fact that no across-the-board successful gene treatment for any condition has ever been developed.

Academics and so-called bio-ethicists are arguing about how the future should utilize genetics. Should we have a society in which a privileged class can buy designer genes for their children and make them smarter, more talented, more powerful, while the lower class, which lives apart in separate dingy enclaves, stews in its own primitive juices?

Or should our leaders open the door to better genes for all?

The unproven concocted dream: everything is regulated by DNA; all aspects of human behavior are determined by this coding; free will is a cruel superstition supported by greedy capitalist thieves; society could evolve into a utopia with the correct distribution of genetic traits; disease would be a thing of the past.

The selling of these medical-drug and gene stories is really, underneath it all, a way of convincing the world that science is our best option for the future. Understand that.

And of course, science must be controlled, like blessings from Rome, by those few who understand it and have the intelligence and compassion to plan the How and the Where of that dispensation.

Otherwise, we would have chaos. We would have money making all the decisions. We would have back-door deals, and cheaters and liars operating the levers of a free market for their own advantage.

And this must not be. No. With something as precious as science the prize, we need the best and the brightest to determine the method by which we can all benefit.

After all, the car and the plane and the light bulb and the refrigerator were magnificent technological advances. Therefore, all medical drugs and genes are, too.

The drugs? A hundred thousand Americans killed every year by government-certified medicines. (JAMA, July 26, 2000, Starfield)

A naked revelation about the overall devastation created by the drugs, and about the baldfaced lies being promoted on behalf of utopian gene engineering - a naked revelation would put a torpedo into the flank of the program to hypnotize the population about Science As Our Future. The technocrats can't admit any spectacular failure. It would be like the Vatican confessing that all Eucharist wafers doled out to believers over the past 50 years were made by a company owned by Beelzebub.

When viewed factually, from an overall perspective, the key pronouncements about medical drugs and genes are false. But this must not see the light of day. It would derail the juggernaut. It would punch a wide hole in the Matrix. It would alert the population that they'd been had by con artists.

The spinning of the legends about transmuting the human, through official chemistry and biology, must continue. It must not be stopped. It must engender expectation. It must gather adherents. It must continue to entrance us. And naturally, unofficial science must be curtailed, because it suggests decentralization of power-and the WHOLE POINT of spinning the scientific legends is that they imply control of the future and the planet from a single high perch.

False science is Globalism's most important product. It contains the "proof" that we must all submit to those wiser than we are.

You see, selling the so-called kindness of elite planetary control is not enough. The idea that a small group of men can avoid all wars by securing the reins of the Earth is not enough. The notion that our natural resources must be distributed from a central point, for the sake of sustainability, is not enough. These propaganda points don't convince enough people.

But the legend that Official Science is the wonder key to a better life has legs. It has power. It has subconscious influence of a high order. It can eventually convince the global populace that a Technocratic Council should rule over them.

Therefore, that legend about Science must be shored up and extended and protected. It must tell whatever lies are necessary to push the agenda forward. Whether or not genes are the Holy Grail of biology is entirely beside the point. Sell it. Claim it. Pretend the evidence is there. And brain drugs? Spread the message: we will all be happier and more alive if we take them. They will cure our ills. They will untie the stubborn knots of discontent.

Welcome to the Science of the Matrix.

All those science fiction novels about civilizations run by technological elites? They were right on the money. That is where we are being led. And the defense-mechanism of the elite is: if you oppose our rational approach, you're a cave man, a throwback, a Luddite, a superstitious fool grinding on with your phobias.

Meanwhile, it is this very elite that is peddling myth and fairy tale and illusion, and capitalizing on fetish.

We've all learned that divide and conquer is the controllers' strategy; that funding wars on both sides is their method; that bankrupting nations is their technique; that owning the means of inventing money is their sinister operation; that dominating channels of information is their major form of mind control; that brainwashed education is their institution; that building the corporate-government embrace is their song. But these all bow before the altar of Scientific Myth, wherein we are persuaded to give up our own visions and our creative power to a Future that can only be run by Those Who Understand Technology.

How better to convince the people to surrender, than to equate science with truth and then claim that truth is beyond the common reach?

This was Plato's basic argument in The Republic, and it has been echoed down through time. It has worked, through various phases, and now we have the most compelling version yet. Science is the truth about the truth, it is all based on observation, it is an open book, it is verifiable and demonstrable, no one need take anything on faith.

And yes, that is so, unless they are lying.

Unless they are lying about what they know.

And they are.

It doesn't matter to them, but it matters to us.

Retired propaganda master Ellis Medavoy once told me in an interview: "Realize that big operations have layers. Each layer corresponds to a special interest that's trying to squeeze out an advantage for itself. But when you peel away the outer skins, you get down to the prime material, the real reason the operation was mounted in the first place. And, in the case of propaganda about science, that reason is ridiculously simple. To promote science. That's it. That's all. Doesn't matter whether it's good science or bad science, or correct science or false science. The whole idea is to condition populations to accept science as the final judge on matters of importance. Why? Because the powers-that-be want to own and rule this world as Masters of Technology, Masters of Undeniable Truth. They see that as feasible. They can sell that. So they invent and dream up scientific visions that will impress people, make them excited. They peddle these visions as facts or soon-to-be facts. They tell stories, and they dress up those stories in expensive clothes. They'll call ANYTHING science. They'll paint it however they want it."

The world needs public trial of political leaders for war crimes and genocide

Copyright: Arun Shrivastava

Yes, public trial for treason, war crimes, and the genocide going on right now.

This is part of a very long essay on Depleted Uranium weapons, nuclear reactors and their environmental health impacts. In this article the long term consequences of radiation contamination from unilateral aggression of the US and NATO countries on South and West Asia are discussed. The Afpak (Afghanistan/Pakistan) region is being bombed daily and the cold blooded murder of nine kids out of the seventeen killed recently is just a small blip when billions are done in.

The toilet paper Amerikan $50,000 per Afghan murdered is a bloody joke.
The world can pay ten times more to the survivors of each hanged western leader.

Depleted Uranium or DU [1] encased bombs have been used since 1991 by US and NATO forces knowing full well that the use of DU weapons is illegal being weapons of mass destruction [WMD] and amounts to War Crimes. These weapons were used in Gulf War 1 against Iraq, then in the Balkans and later, after 9/11 events, in Afghanistan, Iraq, North Africa, Libya and are now being used in Drone bombings in Pakistan.

“When 20 years ago I stated at the United Nations Conference on the Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro that a species was in danger of extinction, I had fewer reasons than today for warning about a danger that I was seeing perhaps 100 years away.” Fidel Castro Ruz - March 21, 2012

- - -

AREA DENIABILITY WEAPON

Nice and juicy ‘Depleted Uranium’ has nothing depleted about it: when this potent hard metal hits a solid surface like concrete or a battle tank, the temperature at the point of impact reaches over 4000°C and turns the projectile into uranium oxide gas. These gases are picked up by the wind and carried all over the world creating vast areas of secondary contamination. Based on the population within the contamination map [Map 1], over 35% of India’s population received a heavy dosing of DU aerosolized uranium nano particles within months of the start of the Afghan and Iraq wars. [2]

Map 1: Drawn by former Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat shows the national capitals within
1000 mile radius of Kabul and Baghdad, war zones since 2001 and 2003, respectively.

The total estimated population within the two circles is nearly a billion. [3] ‘The capitals of 19 countries are within 1000 mile radius and include New Delhi (621 miles), Islamabad (232), Bishkek (651), Beirut (515), Cairo (806), Ankara (785), Jerusalem (546), Damascus (468), Kuwait City (347), Nikosia (643), Teheran (429), Abu Dabi (856), Aman (503), Riyadh (615), Ashqabat (645) and so on.’ [3] Countries like India, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iraq, and some Central Asian States do not even have well established, dependable cancer screening facilities, let alone determining whether the illness is due to depleted uranium contamination or careless handling of toxic pesticides in the farms as was fobbed off by a very ‘respectable’ Indian environmental group. If you think that the population of contaminated regions has gone up, think again; it may have dropped significantly and not even India conducts honest Census operation. Asia, Europe and North Africa are slowly becoming sterile; the only virile bastards are those very leaders who screw 4 or 5 year old boys and girls, white boys and girls, often kidnapped by their own police. [4]

The total land area of earth is about 57.3 million square mile, which implies that roughly 8% of total land area is now contaminated. Add another 6-8% of the landmass within 1000 mile radius of Bosnia, Kosovo, Libya, and Sudan and you can guess that the entire West, Central and South Asia, half of Northern Africa and almost entire Europe is contaminated with DU aerosolized nano particles. While the spineless idiots in bureaucracy, foreign services, and the army worldwide are merrily radioactive, those “dumb stupid” soldiers from US and NATO forces are dying. Even the Indian armed forces are using these lethal weapons and they won’t even know why they died in peacetime. According to one report DU weapons have been sold to 27 countries and India is one of them.

Image 2: Anatomy of a 30mm DU
ammunition; the bombs are larger!!

Former Admiral Bhagwat said this: “The long-term effects from over a decade of DU exposures are emerging in Southern Iraq. They are devastating. The increased quantities of radio-active material (including non-depleted uranium), used in Afghanistan are 3 to 5 times greater than Iraq 1991. In Iraq 2003 they are already estimated to be 6 to 10 times 1991 and will travel through a larger area and affect many more people, babies and unborn. Countries within a 1000 mile radius of Baghdad and Kabul are being affected by radiation poisoning that includes the Capital, New Delhi, where the ruling elite lives. … If we think cancer is a problem now wait until more DU is released in wars against terror and for ‘regime change’, on ‘mistaken’ Intelligence reports.” [5]

The wind carries these deadly particles and gas

Each time southwesterly air currents rise up over North Africa and West Asia, they pick up radioactive nano particles and blow right across India. These winds also blow across the Himalayas where these particles are rained out or snowed out. These particles are carried by the perennial Himalayan Rivers irrigate the agriculture lands that feed 1.6 billion Asians. I know these parts.

Image 3: Air flow and cloud movement from West Asia to Western India and Delhi.

“Nine days after the start of the American president's 2003 ‘shock and awe’ uranium bombing campaign in Baghdad, an invisible radioactive uranium oxide gas cloud swept through Britain's towns and countryside and throughout Europe.” Scientists like Dr. Chris Busby and Saoirse Morgan, shocked Europe in a Sunday Times of London article on Feb. 19, 2006 that Aldermaston radiation monitoring centre which Dr. Busby oversaw, had shown high level of radiation. By tracking airflow pattern from West Asia to Europe during the time period, they came to a conclusion that the radiation level was high from the bombing raids over Iraq. [6]

Bob Nichols says, “The deadly uranium oxide gas measured about 48,000 radioactive particles per square meter. The average radioactive dose, according to official government index based calculations, was about 23 million radioactive particles for the average adult male in Britain and Europe.” That is sufficient dosing to turn the entire population sterile. [7] Just one nice and juicy ‘government defined depleted uranium’ is lethal enough.

In so far as India, South Asia, and the Himalayas are concerned, the airflow patterns from West Asia are regularly reported in major national dailies. What they don’t report is that these air currents carry depleted uranium particles at low, medium, and high altitude, from West Asia, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan across India, the Himalayas into China. This typical airflow pattern continues across Asia, and is carried around the world mixing with the global atmosphere within weeks.

Further evidence comes from scientists [who have expressly forbidden me to disclose their name and place of work] who have tracked abnormal air current movements from the Gulf to Delhi, sometimes under “bone-dry” conditions. In Image 3, I have given the normal cloud movement from the same source. In Image 4, one can clearly see that while there is no cloud cover and there was a strong surface wind towards the mid-Arabian Sea, the streak was found moving towards Delhi. The same scientist further notes that the time for such “incursions” is normally between 6PM and 6AM.

Image 4: Abnormal air flow under bone-dry conditions over across Pakistan and over Delhi region. Note that there is no cloud cover, except one thin strand that appears to be directed towards Delhi.

So, the question is: what is going on? Meteorological experts suspect that some entities are regularly attempting to modify South Asian weather pattern. These have been tracked during Monsoon months too and these scientists say that ‘someone there is trying to inflict untimely weather change over the Indian peninsula.’ [8]

It actually means that someone is artificially directing air currents from West Asia to pass over Northern India, particularly Delhi. It is also well known that weather modification technologies have been in existence for many decades and one is known as HAARP. [9]

The equation

Uranium isotope U238 is a natural substance and all life forms have trace amounts from ingesting food and water. Another isotope of uranium U235 is also naturally occurring substance. The ratio of naturally occurring U238 to U235 is 137,88. Human body can cope with this ratio. However, the use of depleted uranium, the primary waste product of the uranium enrichment process, in weapons upsets this ratio. Enriched and depleted uranium are both mutagenic materials; they attack DNA structure and alter it. Exposure to radiation from nuclear explosions and to the subsequent dust cloud is serious enough. The insidious aspect of the nano-particles of U235 dust is that they are very easily ingested, and being so tiny, they find their way into individual cells in the body, wreaking havoc from their constant radiation, and as a highly toxic heavy metal.

It means that the use of depleted uranium weapons can compromise the future quality of human population and all life forms. Responsible scientists had warned that DU weapons are WMD and must not be used. Yet DU weapons are being extensively used in Afghanistan particularly in the eastern parts, including the heavily populated Kabul and Jalalabad. Studies conducted by Uranium Medical Research Centre (UMRC) showed a ratio of 237 times in returning Gulf War I British soldiers, which ‘indicated the presence of 30-50% of DU mixed with natural uranium.’ [10]

During 2002 the UMRC research team conducted a series of field tests in Afghanistan. In Jalalabad it found concentrations of 400 to 2000% above normal level. At Nangarhar, the concentration was 100 to 400 times; every person donating urine sample was contaminated. Doug Westerman met the research team and this is what he reports: ‘In Afghanistan, unlike Iraq, UMRC lab results indicated high concentrations of NON-DEPLETED URANIUM, with the concentrations being much higher than in DU victims from Iraq. Afghanistan was used as a testing ground for a new generation of "bunker buster" bombs containing high concentrations of other uranium alloys.’ [11]

Discussions and email exchanges with UMRC team clearly showed that they were shocked by the public health impact of the use of these weapons. Dr Miraki says that every bombsite that he has visited and investigated, he finds that people are ill. The civilian population presents symptoms consistent with internal contamination by uranium." “Asaf Durakovic, UMRC’s president and a former US army adviser, believes that exposure to DU weapons may have brought a rise in birth defects as well as “symptoms of muscular-skeletal pains, immune system disorders, lung disease, and eventually cancer. “ It is an excellent way to kill a large number of people without gas chamber. And Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Delhi are all in that juicy soup.

The Punjab conundrum

The uranium contamination in Punjab confirms what has been well known around the world. Tests on children’s hair showed high level of uranium but lower than some tested in Himachal Pradesh. Elements like copper, chromium, zinc, lead, mercury, and uranium and poisons such as arsenic, show up in the hair. The important thing in the Punjab case is that Dr Carin Smit, a South African toxicologist associated with ‘Defeat Autism Now’ [DAN] [autism in children is directly related to the mercury poisoning from enforced vaccinations of poor households] found uranium in hair but the Punjab Government said that it is Central Government’s problem!! DAN has a solid reputation for in-depth study; the Punjab Government has a reputation for being one of the most corrupt and inhuman. [12]

Toxic elements don’t just appear in children’s hair because it is “Central Government’s” problem. These bastards should know that it their problems too; their own fucked up lives are highly radioactive.

I conclude this essay by warning the people around the world that (a) the US and NATO forces have indiscriminately used DU bombs and bullets and often DU mixed with enriched uranium [U235 and U234] and they continue to use these weapons in all war zones, and (b) the Pentagon is planning to use GBU-57A/B which is also known as Massive Ordnance Penetrator or MOP designed to penetrate 60 meters of concrete. It is for this reason that I had republished my 2006 paper in which I had warned that nuking Iran could kill millions across South Asia, in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. [13]

Let us all pray but saner voices are NOT likely to prevail. I again quote Fidel Castro Ruz, “the United States is about to commit and lead the world towards the greatest mistake in its history."

End notes

[1] “Depleted uranium (DU) is a man-made, radioactive, heavy metal derived from uranium ore. Naturally occurring uranium ore (rock in which the uranium concentration is approximately 1,000 or more parts per million) is mined and processed to yield a much more concentrated substance, one that is virtually pure uranium. Natural uranium exists in three isotopic forms and contains 99.274% U238, 0.72% U235, and 0.0057% U234 by weight. DU, a by-product of uranium enrichment, has an isotopic content of 99.75% U238, 0.25% U235, and 0.005% U234. As part of the effort to secure fissile uranium, many thousand tons of DU have been generated.” Since DU is 1.7 times denser than lead, it penetrates hard surfaces.
[The authors] “reviewed toxicological data on both natural and depleted uranium. We included peer reviewed studies and gray literature on birth malformations due to natural and depleted uranium. Our approach was to assess the "weight of evidence" with respect to teratogenicity of depleted uranium.”
The authors conclude that “animal studies firmly support the possibility that DU is a teratogen. While the detailed pathways by which environmental DU can be internalized and reach reproductive cells are not yet fully elucidated, again, the evidence supports plausibility. To date, human epidemiological data include case examples, disease registry records, a case-control study and prospective longitudinal studies.”
ALLIANCE FOR HUMAN RESEARCH PROTECTION (AHRP)
A Catalyst for Debate about Medicine and Ethics

By way of introduction, Sharav cites a recent item in the New York Times about warnings the FDA is now requiring on statin drugs...

New York Times news item, Business Section, February 29, 2012: Safety Alerts Cite Cholesterol Drugs’ Side Effects by Gardiner Harris

“Federal health officials [ ] added new safety alerts to the prescribing information for statins, the cholesterol-reducing medications that are among the most widely prescribed drugs in the world, citing rare risks of memory loss, diabetes and muscle pain.

It is the first time that the Food and Drug Administration has officially linked statin use with cognitive problems like forgetfulness and confusion, although some patients have reported such problems for years. Among the drugs affected are huge sellers like Lipitor, Zocor, Crestor and Vytorin.

But federal officials and some medical experts said the new alerts should not scare people away from statins. “The value of statins in preventing heart disease has been clearly established,” said Dr. Amy G. Egan, deputy director for safety in the F.D.A.’s division of metabolism and endocrinology products. “Their benefit is indisputable, but they need to be taken with care and knowledge of their side effects.”

Diabetes patients and even those who develop diabetes while taking statins should continue taking the medicines, said Dr. Steven Nissen, chairman of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic who has studied the medicines extensively.

“These are not major issues, and they really do not alter the decision-making process with regard to statins,” Dr. Nissen said. Last year, nearly 21 million patients in the United States were prescribed statins.”

- - -

Pharmageddon

Pharmageddon is the story of a tragedy

A clearly articulated, historically informed, riveting new book by Dr. David Healy, PHARMAGEDDON, published by the University of California Press, provides an insightful analysis of the culture in medicine that has led prominent medical authorities to make unsupportable, contradictory public pronouncements about the presumed clinical value of patent-protected prescription drugs. Contrary to industry propaganda, in company-controlled clinical trials, statins failed to demonstrate a clinical benefit—except for those with established cardiovascular disease. Indeed, there is no evidence that any blockbuster drug saved lives or demonstrated a significant clinical benefit—these drugs merely exhibited an effect on a rating scale greater than a placebo. By contrast these drugs’ severe adverse effects are demonstrated by patients’ deteriorating health and premature deaths.

To be sure there have been other critiques about the commercialization of American medicine and undisclosed conflicts of interest that raise serious doubts about the integrity of medicine. But Dr. Healy probes deeper, bringing into sharp focus how industry has masterfully exploited regulations aimed at reining in its deceptive marketing practices, including withholding safety data, failure to demonstrate drug effectiveness, and its price fixing schemes. He identifies three regulatory changes that were enacted under the leadership of Sen. Kefauver in 1962: patent protection changes for branded pharmaceutical products; restricted prescription drug privileges for doctors only; and a requirement for industry-controlled clinical trials that are designed to demonstrate a benefit over placebo.

He shows how these regulatory changes were seized by the pharmaceutical industry to gain control of medical research and ultimately, control over medical practice. Ironically, rather than rein in industry’s deceptive practices, these regulations, as well as the mantra calling for evidence-based medicine in the form of controlled clinical trials, which industry subverted by taking ownership of medical “science.” It then proceeded to derail medicine from its life-saving mission toward increasing consumption of drugs for chronic conditions whose side effects undermine overall health, more often than not, resulting in additional drug prescriptions.

Dr. Healy disputes the validity of the claim that clinical trials are the essential bedrock for “science-based” medical practice, noting that when a treatment is unambiguously therapeutic—e.g., antibiotics—we don’t need a controlled trial to prove its clinical effectiveness. Placebo-controlled clinical trials are pharmaceutical companies’ essential tool for marketing ineffective drugs whose serious risks of harm are not obvious. The “gold standard” in medical research is embodied in company-controlled trials that are designed to demonstrate merely a “statistical significance” of a benefit over a placebo—without having to demonstrate clear evidence of a clinically significant benefit. What’s more, company-controlled trials are not designed to identify severe though not obvious adverse effects. FDA’s approval standard for marketing a prescription drug as “safe and effective” is based entirely on this lopsided, commercially profitable “gold standard”—even when “statistical significance” was demonstrated in only two out of 100 clinical trials—and even though more people died testing the new drug than did those on placebo. Those inconvenient deaths in the trials were dismissed as irrelevant, not having met the arbitrary “statistical significance” standard.

Dr. Healy makes the case that privatization has led to corruption of medical research at its core. He cites evidence documenting that 30% of clinical trials remain unreported while almost all of the 50% that are reported, were ghostwritten, and 25% of published trials misrepresent the evidence. With assistance by its acquiescent “partners” in academia and government, operating through subterfuge, deception, creation of marketing myths and diseases, industry’s marketing claims that masquerade as science-based medicine have corrupted much of the scientific foundation underlying medical practice—including standardized clinical practice guidelines that often become mandatory. These treatment guidelines formulated by consensus panels that were financed by industry, and relied on industry’s corrupt clinical trial reports. Such formularies and guidelines—on the order of medical “Manual for Dummies”—are based on reductionist measurements and rating scales. Such reductionism dehumanizes people while denigrating the physician’s professional judgment: the “learned intermediary’s” role is thereby reduced to that of an assembly line worker in a manufacturing plant—i.e., a cog in industry’s wheel of fortune.

The unintended but real consequences of the Kefauver reforms, he argues, have turned medical and scientific precepts inside out, and have subverted medicine from its traditional focus on the health needs of the individual patient and a thoughtful assessment of that patient’s best interest. This, he asserts, has led to a profound cultural change within the medical community, a change that has undermined patients’ best care:

“Good medical care once firmly embraced the idea that every remedy was a potential poison that inevitably produced side-effects—the trick lay in knowing how and to whom to administer this poison in order to bring about a benefit that warranted these side effects…In the era of evidence-based medicine, the marketing barrage of the pharmaceutical companies and the promise of statistical significance have led doctors into a world in which they regard treatments more as fertilizers or vitamins that can only do good if applied widely. As a profession, medicine is thereby losing any sense of the treatment as poison, and controlled trials, which began as a method to protect patients from the biases of doctors, have become instead, a method to enhance business in great part because drug companies have managed to hook doctors to the crack pipe of statistical significance.” [p. 77]

In this scenario Dr. Healy may have a point in suggesting that doctors hooked on industry’s propaganda are not best suited to make prescribing decisions for poisons they do not recognize. It can also be argued that if prescription drugs are “safe and effective” why do we need doctors to serve as gatekeepers?

The turning point, he suggests, occurred in the 1980s, when the first blockbuster drugs—Zantac for ulcers, followed by Prozac for depression—were inordinately successfully marketed despite poor performance in clinical trials. They were catapulted to blockbuster status by aggressive false marketing claims about their benefits while their potentially lethal hazards were concealed for decades. Physicians, he writes, have been hypnotized by corrupted scientific reports. The medical model no longer focuses on saving lives, nor even on finding cures for disease. Under industry’s influence, medical practice is focused on chronic disease management, by monitoring check lists for mood disorders, rating scales and screening tests for cholesterol levels, blood-sugar levels, bone-density scans. These tests are used to justify prescribing ever more drugs for multiple conditions—many of which were triggered by the prescribed drugs. Doctors are in denial—even when patients in front of their eyes are suffering from treatment-induced acute distress.

Since American medicine came under industry’s influence, America’s ranking on healthcare matters among developed countries fell from #1 in the 1960s to #72 in 2000.

As the NYT report (above) underscores, even as FDA’s analysis of statins confirms evidence of serious cognitive risks—which can become debilitating—and risks of diabetes—which are life-shortening—doctors are strongly advised to continue prescribing the drugs widely. With sales of $35 billion annually, statins are ingested mostly by people who do not have cardiovascular disease. They are prescribed for those for whom the drugs offer no benefit. Statins are prescribed as risk management drugs for people whose cholesterol level is arbitrarily designated “at risk” on a rating scale. Other harm-producing blockbusters include: Cox-2 inhibitors for arthritic pain; blood-sugar lowering drugs for diabetes; beta agonists for asthma; antidepressants and antipsychotics for mental anguish. Even as these drugs’ ill effects are evident in the physical or mental condition of patients, doctors continue to prescribe the drugs, having been blinded by Industry-subverted “evidence-based medicine” and assured that the ill effect is “anecdotal.” Dr. Healy cites evidence showing that 80% of such observed “anecdotes” turned out to be correct. The number of deaths or serious adverse events reported to the FDA is increasing by 5% to 10% annually—a disproportionate share attributed to blockbuster drugs of questionable clinical benefit.

In the most poignant section of the book, grief-stricken mothers of children killed by prescription drugs speak out. The adverse effects of the drugs were concealed from them and from the doctors who prescribed them. Yet, these mothers stand alone as they confront the Goliaths—FDA gatekeepers at public hearings—and companies in court depositions. The mothers are not supported by doctors who should be outraged at systemic deception about the risks and indemonstrable benefits of drugs that led them to prescribe poison without judiciously assessing possible lethal consequences. He likens these mothers to Demeter of Greek mythology who forcefully shamed Zeus to take action and bring back her abducted daughter. But today’s immoral medical arbiters have no shame.

Dr. Healy’s tone in PHARMAGEDDON is an anguished recognition about the destructive uses to which medicine has aligned itself; about the complicity of professional gatekeepers who have watched in silence as the science underlying medical practice since the 1980’s has been irredeemably corrupted; about physicians entrusted with prescription privileges who betray patients’ trust by administering poisons without regard for the risks of harm.

It is a compelling resource for anyone who suspects that medicines pose serious risks, and that doctors are not all that knowledgeable about the hazards of all the drugs they prescribe. We need raise questions in order to protect ourselves from medically unjustifiable, potentially harmful, usually costly treatments. Instead of following Pharma’s directive, “ask your doctor if this pill is right for you…” we might do better to ask the doctor to show us the basis for his recommendation.

Infoholix on CAM
from Euro notes with mint sauce Part 5

Can you imagine 150.000 government regulated allopathic doctors or general practitioners, GP, treating patients with more than 350 different CAM therapies?

This is hardly imaginable in the Anglo-American sphere, but this is the case in Germany.

Every employee needs to have health insurance by law, GKV, and self-employed have approximately the same called PKV. There are 150 insurers covering GKV and PKV.
These are combined in an association which regulates what kind of medicine they pay for. The insurance premiums are the same (15.5% of salary) for employees with all of them, so competition exists only due to the different treatments they cover.

For example: All cover Acupuncture for backpain and arthrosis of the knee. But if you want Acupuncture treatment for headaches then cover is not compulsory but some insurers will cover it.

If it is not covered you can pay the GP privately. The costs for Acupuncture range from 25 to 60 Euros per session.

It is in the interest of GP that insurers cover as little as possible as the patient will gladly pay privately - or go to a hospital where every treatment is free when indicated.
The private charges are always higher for the same treatment than the costs the association of insurers will negotiate. The insurer aims to cover as much as possible in order to get the competitive advantage.

Bach Flower therapy can cost up to 200 Euros including examinations and diagnosis. It's the GP's favorite and more than 50% of the 150.000 GP offer it. You need to buy your bottles from the pharmacy, the same licensed pharmacy that sells all prescription drugs.

Biofeedback costs between 8 and 20 Euros per session.

Light therapy 7 to 13 Euros only.

Insurers scan worldwide databases for clinical trials of therapies to help them evaluate therapies they may want to cover. There are plenty of European/German databases but they also look at these:

These two institutions of the NHS in UK
Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD),
National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE),

and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) in USA,
as well as Medline and Cochrane databank.

On top of this insurers examine feedback from GPs and make their own studies.
For example Electro-Convulsion-Therapy for depression: *
- 50% of patients improve,
- side effects are nausea and memory loss,
- mortality rate is 1 in 75.000 (patients with heart problems).
The university clinic in Aachen treated 800 patients in 1985 and 5000 in 2011.

Sleep Deprivation or Awake Therapy shows 60% short term success and 15% long term benefits for depression. You get up at 02:00h, cook in groups or do other group activities that stop you from falling asleep, no naps or sleep for at least 22 hours.

German companies export the machines to China with which the Chinese produce the consumer goods destined for USA and rest of world. These German companies also build the entire factories and attached towns for workers. Fully equipped hospitals, equipped with "German medicine" are included. To start with workers are treated with TCM at the ground floor and "German medicine" is reserved for management at the upper floors.

This makes workers believe that "German medicine" is superior to TCM and hence more desirable. It becomes a perk for every worker to be treated at the upper floor. This is the most effective marketing technique which eliminates the need to convince a patient about efficacy of a treatment. When it is good for management it is good for us, that's the general perception.

We must keep in mind that Chinese workers have no health insurance and depend on health services provided by the company they work for. The days of Old China where a person would pay his physician while healthy and stop paying when ill until he has been cured have long gone.

There are 100+ therapies in the directory of infoholix.net and 100+ under "Categories under review". Very few of the 350 therapies available through the German health system are featured. Their creators often contend that there is one empirical medicine which comes in many forms only, that the term CAM was created in the countries of medical fascism in order to discriminate against certain forms of medicine and protect capitalistic interests.
Hence most object to marketing their therapies to US and UK as they do not want to deal with ineffable hostility, discrimination and persecution.

There is a world market for medicine after all, as illustrated by the China example above.

- - -

* I am not advocating Electro-Convulsion Therapy for the depressed ... as a matter of fact, I believe that there is considerable harm in it. But in the interest of freedom of choice...

After all, that freedom is not only supposed to be for those choices we personally agree with. (Sepp)

FDA purposely hid aspartame dangers: open letter to the European Food Safety Authority

In June 2011, the European Food Safety Authority has called for submission of relevant scientific data on the safety on aspartame, a contested sweetener made of two amino acids and methanol.

Campaigners have pointed out that the Authority (EFSA) is missing important but damning details in its review. The FDA's approval of the substance, says Betty Martini "was a political decision, taken over the objection of the FDA's own scientific panel. Studies used to obtain approval were sanitized, to hide damaging effects the sweetener had on laboratory animals and eventually, Donald Rumsfeld was brought in to push through the approval."

Now, new data has come to light confirming that early studies showed serious problems and that the FDA knew about the dangers the studies found. In an open letter to the European Food Safety Agency, which is reproduced in the second part of this article, Betty Martini points to those studies, which recently emerged, only as a result of citizens making and pushing through FOI act information requests for the documents.

Here is Betty Martini's open letter to EFSA ...

- - -

Subject: Open Letter to EFSA - More FDA Hidden Studies showing aspartame causes birth defects: Parliament informed

Dear Sandra:

We knew that when you had the call for data the only thing you would make public was industry studies and propaganda and not all the investigations and independent peer reviewed research we sent you. That's why it was all sent to Parliament at the same time it was sent to you. They know aspartame was never proven safe, that FDA wanted the company indicted, that studies were stripped from the records, and the only reason aspartame was ever marketed for human consumption was through political chicanery of Don Rumsfeld. They all have the link to the independent scientific peer reviewed research and the studies that showed aspartame to be carcinogenic from the very beginning. http://www.mpwhi.com/peer_reviewed_research.htm

Jerome Bressler who worked with the FDA, and author of the infamous Bressler Report requested that I find the two studies FDA stripped from his report because he said it was important that the public be warned about the birth defects. It took 8 years but here they are and Parliament has seen them: http://www.whilesciencesleeps.com/pdf/677.pdf The rest of the Bressler Report is on our web site. You recall the UK Parliament was very concerned about putting a warning for birth defects after the Denmark study showing aspartame can jump preterm births 78%. Notice these studies, which the FDA sealed and hid from the public in loyalty to industry, have the FDA admitting that aspartame causes birth defects. You can understand now the epidemic in autism. Parliament also knows about all the other recent studies that showed everything from heart attacks, obesity and strokes and elevated fasting blood sugar and cancer.

Now more sealed original studies that were hid from the public and also go into hydrocephalus and cleft palate, etc. were acquired by Dr. Woodrow Monte and are now discussed in his new book on the methanol in aspartame, "When Science Sleeps". Here are those studies:
http://www.whilesciencesleeps.com/pdf/677.pdf
This makes 6 of the original studies showing beyond a shadow of a doubt that aspartame causes birth defects with the FDA admitting it.

Now let's read some from the book which Parliament should get immediately, also because its on the methanol and formaldehyde issues which Jim McDonald of the UK Aspartame Awareness Campaign has made public.

"In an article published in 1985 warning about potential health dangers posed by the methanol from aspartame, I stated that the scientific literature contained no studies addressing the critical question as to whether aspartame or methanol would cause birth defects. I was incorrect in saying that, but only because I was purposefully prevented from seeing a key FDA memo dated September 11, 1978 describing the details of birth defects and serious developmental brain damage found in the offspring of laboratory rabbits whose mothers had been fed aspartame during pregnancy. This memo and the research data it describes were keep secret for over thirty years until January of 2011, when the memo was finally released as the result of Freedom of information request."

"In that detailed US Food and Drug Administration memo, which was authored by Dr. Thomas Collins of the Animal Toxicology Branch to the Chief of the Food Additive Evaluation Branch, Collins reports the disturbing discovery of "significant" multiple neural tube (and other) birth defects in rabbit pups whose mothers were fed aspartame during the course of several different toxicity studies done by both G. D. Searle and Hazelton Laboratories between 1974 and 1975. It appeared to be Dr. Collins' assignment to evaluate the studies and his conclusions were stunning: "In both rabbit studies, aspartame appeared to cause birth defects."

"To my knowledge, this book is the first time this memo has been discussed publicly. Like most of the scientific community, I had no idea that aspartame had tested positive for producing neural tube birth defects. It was not until January 16, 2011 that this "smoking gun" memo came into my possession. This is one of many important that were removed from the aspartame Docket File before I was allowed to review it in 1983. Figure 12.1 is an image of the ticket that gave me access to the FDA's "complete" collection of aspartame test data and it does confirm that memos had been removed."

IMPORTANCE of the Collins Memo: Government Collusion Uncovered

"Of the several million chemicals, pesticides and herbicides now in use only an exceedingly small percentage have ever tested positive for causing birth defects. Barely 800 chemicals are known teratogens, producing birth defects in laboratory animals, and "only about twenty of these are known to cause birth defects in the human. Nature has numerous methods, the exact details of which are still unknown to us, for protecting the developing infant. As a last resort she will often call upon the macrophages to destroy a fetus that becomes unfit for life well before the time of birth, in a process called resorption. This is why the occurrence of a deformed fetus in the testing of any chemical is a rare phenomenon and would normally raise a "red flag" to any scientist concerned with public safety. It would be particularly significant if that chemical was being tested for use as a food additive."

"It was not until 20 years after the 1978 FDA memo that methanol was first tested again and found to cause neural tube birth defects in rats and eventually in many other species of laboratory animal. To this day aspartame is not listed as a teratogen because the FDA and G. D. Searle covered up the tests that were performed in 1974 and 1975. Worse yet, during the time they were in possession of this proof of aspartame's teratogenicity, Searle paid to have a faux scientific paper written by one of their employees published in an international fertility journal (which is read by many gynecologists and pediatricians) stressing the safety of aspartame and falsely proclaiming that "aspartame posed no risk" from consumption during pregnancy." ....

"Tragically, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) kept the Collins memo secret from the Center for the Evaluation of Risks to human Reproduction (CERHR) throughout its entire two year investigation of methanol's potential to cause birth defects. This was done despite the fact that both the FDA and the CERHR are part of the same public agency - the Department of Health and Human Services. The final CERHR report published in September of 2009 mentions aspartame no fewer than 93 times and raises many questions about its potential for teratogenicity. These questions could have been answered by giving the committee access to the Collins memo and other studies to which the Collins memo refers that are still hidden in the vaults of the FDA. It is noteworthy that two of the 11 voting members of the expert panel, both representing the US Environmental Protection Agency, refused to sign off on the summary of the CERHR methanol report and, in fact, initiated a formal dissent that warned of "a greater risk to vulnerable populations of pregnant women" than the compromised final report of the CERHR expert panel alleged. The most senior of the dissenting scientists, J. Michael Davis, Ph.D. reveals in his strongly worded five page formal dissent that "factual errors and omissions" prompted him not to sign the final report. He goes on:

"As just one example, the missing pages from the 1986 NEDO (New Energy Development Organization) report, which I identified and provided to the CERHR contractor, were evidently never provided to members of the Panel. The pages in question included a table showing reductions in brain weight in a two generation rat study that had been replicated in a special ancillary study... if nothing else, omission of this information creates the impression that the Panel failed to consider all relevant information." (I must point out here that autistic children often present with a reduced brain size at birth.)"

end of this part of the book

Methanol is one very big reason for birth defects but the 50% phenylalanine is another reason, and Dr. Louis Elsas testified before Congress in this regard. There was such an outrage because so many of the population were being poisoned from aspartame there were three congressional hearings between 1985 and 1987. Politics and power prevented Senator Metzenbaum's bill from getting out of committee, a story in itself. He wanted a moratorium put on aspartame while NIH did independent studies on the problems being seen in the population such as with the fetus, behavioral problems in children, drug interaction, seizures, etc. You might want to read the Report For Schools: http://www.mpwhi.com/report_on_aspartame_and_children.htm

So babies never had a chance. Think how many women grow up wanting a family and can't have children, never knowing that aspartame is an endocrine disrupting agent, stimulates prolactin, changes the menses and causes infertility. Then if they get off aspartame and get pregnant and get back on it, its also an abortifacient and a teratogen: http://www.rense.com/general/asp.htm

THREATENING RESEARCHERS AND MYSTERIOUS ACCIDENTS

We're all kind of sick of death threats and mysterious accidents. If you read the UPI investigation which was sent to Parliament: http://www.mpwhi.com/upi_1987_aspartame_report.pdf note that Dr. Richard Wurtman was threatened by the Vice President of Searle if he did studies on aspartame and seizures his research funds would be rejected ... they were. Today MIT gets research funds but Dr. Wurtman no longer speaks out about aspartame.

Dr. James Bowen has been threatened so many times and had so many accidents, break-ins and such he could write a book on it. He has ALS from aspartame.

Dr. Maria Alemany who did the Trocho study which proved that the formaldehyde converted from the free methyl alcohol embalms living tissue and damages DNA by which you can destroy humanity told me when I was in Barcelona that the aspartame manufacturers tried to assassinate his character because he did the study. He also said that after doing the study he knew aspartame would kill 200 million people. Tephly tried to rebut the study but later admitted he used the wrong test. The aspartame industry are scholars at that. In the protest of the National Soft Drink Association it was even admitted that Searle used the wrong test that wouldn't pick up the aspartic acid (the excitotoxin in aspartame that stimulates the neurons of the breath to death causing brain damage - Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills by neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D.) Industry later even got to them and they turned around and lobbied for NutraSweet which is why the protest was added to the congressional record which is on www.mpwhi.com scroll down to banners.

When I lectured in the UK I was amused that Immigration locked me up for 3 1/2 hours after confiscating all material on aspartame. Their questions were not the usual ones immigration asks such as "if we allow you in England how many people will find out about the dangers of aspartame?" They then took me to a physician to see if I was in condition to be interrogated because they said I had been on a plane for 12 hours. They made the mistake of putting Dr. Roberts medical text, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, 1000 pages, on the doctors desk. He looked at it and said, "I use aspartame". I said, 'Well, you're going to die!" He said, "But I'm diabetic!" I responded, "Then you will die first." Dr. Roberts is a diabetes specialist, and after reading the chapter the physician told Immigration: "Give this woman back everything you confiscated on aspartame and let her go." When I lectured in Shrewsbury, Shropshire the manufacturer's legal department sent a mole to record my lecture. The second time I lectured in the UK, the mainstream press didn't write more articles and some told me the newspapers had been intimidated by attorneys from the aspartame industry. My goodness, are they scared!

Now let's get back to the book and talk about Dr. Monte:

"A Fire of Mysterious Origin":

"All that remains with me of the night my home exploded in flames is the aftermath. I have a recurring memory of lying on a gurney in a hospital emergency room in Tempe, Arizona, with a physician repeatedly jabbing me in my left hand with a large gauge hypodermic needle. He was looking for an artery from which to extract a blood sample in order to prove that I had actually been in a fire, despite the fact that an ambulance had taken me directly from the fire to the hospital. The pain was excruciating, far worse than my burns. The rude awakening brought clarity to the fact that I had barely escaped a possible attempt on my life that had to be taken seriously. I vowed then that I would stay alive long enough to reveal the truth about aspartame and resolve the question of whether Joy had been killed by this deadly component of diet sodas."

Joy was a baby who died from aspartame's birth defects.

Then there was my trip to New Zealand when Abby Cormack became very sick on aspartame. She is fine now since she abstained. On that trip, first my bags with lecture material mysteriously disappeared. Read the story: Dying for a Diet Coke: http://www.rense.com/general78/dying.htm There was so much publicity that people would stop you in the street and say, "I had the problems Abby had and got off aspartame my symptoms disappeared." Then the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) put out releases that read like they were written by Ajinomoto trying to get people not to listen to Abby or I and just get on their web site and read about aspartame's safety. They actually wanted them to get back on aspartame so they would get sick again. Well, it didn't work so Coke sent an aspartame flack to New Zealand to try and get their profits back up. Abby did a brilliant job of debating her. While I was there the aspartame industry actually hacked into my web site and added a note not to believe me. It could only be read by those in New Zealand who alerted me. Then the NZFSA had a consumer meeting for information on aspartame and called for material to show the damage. I had it and was standing at their door. They refused to let me in so the information would not be heard, even though I had come 10,000 miles.

When I was in St. Louis giving out flyers I was stopped by a man who said, "I know more about aspartame than you do." We got in a conversation and it turns out a physician admitted that doctors there were threatened - if they told anyone that aspartame causes Alzheimers they would be sued. Also, an informant said the National Soft Drink Association did a 10 year study and never published it proving aspartame causes birth defects, Alzheimers and blindness. When I met someone from NSDA (now American Beverage) she said, "You couldn't possibly have those studies."

I could go on and on!

After getting all information to Parliament I sent them this report with quotes from the experts: http://www.mpwhi.com/efsa_cheats_about_aspartame.htm

Here is an article that was just published in a UK paper about a woman with lymphoma and notice the Diet Coke in her hand:

Also note the comment by Jim McDonald of the UK Aspartame Awareness Campaign.

"What is methanol and formaldehyde known to cause? Lymphoma and leukemia!

What did Dr. Morando Soffritti find on one of his aspartame studies showing it to be a multipotential carcinogen? Lymphoma and leukemia.

Many years ago Dr. H. J. Roberts sent me a picture of Jacqueline Kennedy with a Diet Coke. What did she die of? Lymphoma, same disease as this woman has.

“The illustration of beautiful young Kathryn Fish, clutching a bottle of diet coke with both hands is a frightening picture to me. I wonder if this young lady is a heavy user or even dependent on (addicted to) this very popular carbonated product? If so, the many other comments here regarding the artificial sweetener aspartame are absolutely correct. What is not well known is aspartame’s best kept secret - 10% of aspartame METHANOL very few people, including practically all our GP’s and other medical practitioners are unaware of this. Methanol is a severe metabolic poison in humans, it is a slow stealthy poison which builds up over time 10-20 years eventually causing neurological, organ and tissue damage. Anyone reading this post who is, or knows someone who is a heavy user of chewing gum, diet drinks or flavoured water containing aspartame should contact their GP and advise them of the heavy use – GP’s need to question the FSA about the methanol in aspartame. The best of luck Kathryn.”

-------------------------------

So why have I written you and let you know we notified the UK and Scottish Parliament, UK media and others of what you intended to do in advance (give only industry's side and propaganda)? Because its over Sandra. The information is all over the Internet and all over the world. Aspartame facts are in more medical texts and books than I can count, and this last one on the free methyl alcohol by Dr. Woodrow Monte just hammered the last nail in the coffin.

If EFSA dares to try and say aspartame is safe in this review with all the evidence it will only come back on EFSA. They also have the article about how many of you have links to the aspartame industry, more than half.

Why government organizations like yourself have loyalty to industry is beyond me. Don't you know it will affect your own families? There are no perks or jobs or money that are worth poisoning the world as aspartame has done. The FDA's excuse to me by phone was "so what, we need to depopulate". Anyone this evil has to be possessed. No normal human would make such a remark.

I hope you understand now - its over. Nobody in the EU or Parliament are going to believe it if you try to make them believe aspartame is safe.

New movies continue to come out exposing more and more information that has been hidden. Stay tuned.

Some think it's been protected because of the power of Donald Rumsfeld who through political chicanery when he worked for G.D. Searle got aspartame marketed. Why the government would protect a manufacturer who is guilty of Title 18 of the Domestic Genocide code is beyond me.

Think of those in prison for methanol poisoning when the victim unknowingly poisoned himself because he wasn't aware of the methanol in aspartame. For those reading this that want the whole story. They can email me at bettym19@mindspring.com and ask for the Aspartame Resource Guide.

Think of the epidemic of autism and read about it in Dr. Monte's book.

The ADD people: Feingold, said in one of the movies, "before aspartame approval we didn't even use the terms ADD and ADHD". Think of our precious children, those with autism, those victims who live with MS because of it, those who have gone blind, and those who have perished.

That doesn't even discuss all the other horrors mentioned in the medical texts.

I have never seen this angle to smoking discussed in a clear form until I came across, through some friends on facebook, a very informative but kind of hidden away write-up by a parent who refused to just accept as fact what "everybody knows" - that kids start to smoke because of tobacco company propaganda.

Ironically, the article was languishing in a place called the CyberCemetery, an archive of government websites that have ceased operation (usually websites of defunct government agencies and commissions that have issued a final report).

teenage smoking and tobacco company coverups - video4@ckt.net, 2/23/01 1:57AM

A cursory study into tobacco use by teenagers appears to have discovered a new door into the causes of teenage smoking. Nicotine has long been accepted as the addictive portion of tobacco products, but what is apparently little known is that nicotine and niacin (vitamin B3) are analogues. An examination into this previously untrod avenue may yield significant new data into the treatment of teenage tobacco use.

Much research has been done establishing that teenagers do use tobacco, but very little has looked into the actual causes and none could be found on E.R.I.C. that has been done from the aspect that tobacco may fulfill a nutritional need.

As a parent of six children and a non-traditional graduate student, adolescent smoking is something I have had to deal with at least six times. As a graduate student with a grounding in communication, it is of primary concern to me, with all the information targeting teen smoking, that there has not been a more significant effect on the target audience -- adolescents.

The Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics (1998) shows a steady increase in smoking in that while 9% of the children in the 8th grade surveyed admitted to smoking every day, 24.6% of the 12th graders smoke daily. The Federal Interagency Forum offered no answers but did recommend more study.

The statistics would seem to show that Festinger's Theory of Cognitive Dissonance (Festinger, L. 1957) does not apply to smoking. Applying Festinger's theory, a greater amount of resources dedicated to preventing teen smoking should have led to a greater decrease in teen smoking, but that does not seem to be the case. In fact, the opposite seems to have occurred. The teenagers exposed to the larger amount of anti-smoking information (the 12th Graders) were almost 3 times as likely to be smokers. This led me to ask whether the addictiveness of nicotine might have some influence on why a theory like Festinger's, so well grounded in other areas, did not seem to work here.

Teenagers use tobacco. That is an established fact. What is up for contention is why do teenagers use tobacco, in spite of all the propaganda cultural pressure aimed at telling them not to. Many court cases have been fought on this issue but there is still little current information due to the mutability of the subject matter, children.

If teenagers' diets are niacin deficient and their bodies know what their minds don't ( and their teachers won't tell them), that niacin and nicotine are the same thing, their bodies would make them crave tobacco as the source of a necessary nutrient, but being a matter of taste, they would not be able to describe it scientifically. An anecdotal reply might be -- "I don't know why I like it; I just do," with no understanding that it's fulfilling necessary needs of the nervous system, like orange juice provides antioxidants for the body.. B Complex vitamins are just as important as vitamin C. A lack of vitamin C compromises the immune system; a lack of B vitamins compromises the nervous system.

Another example is Iodine. Iodine is a poison but it is also a necessary nutrient. The body only needs a thimble full of Iodine for a lifetime but without that thimble full a lifetime is only a few years. The endocrine system self destructs without it. A smoker may only get a thimble full of Niacin from a lifetime of smoking (10-20mcg per cigarette), but at least they have that lifetime to discover and correct the problem (poor diet, alcoholism or malabsorptive bowel), which is how to get the Niacin without the other 43 carcinogenic substances the American Cancer Society has identified in Tobacco smoke.

The intention of this study is to discover if teenage tobacco use, smoking and other, may be the result of a niacin deficient diet, not tobacco advertising. There may appear to have been an intentional deception in hiding the fact that niacin and nicotine are basically the same thing, but simply put, it's because until now there has been no funding to look at tobacco from the point of view of a nutritional function. Tobacco has been used for a wide range of other maladies from Asthma ( Niacin prevents Histamine release Robert Thompson Cybervitamins.com) to Bowel obstruction (A Modern Herbal guide 1931).

My argument is that the real cause has been overlooked in the "rush to judgment" and nutritional deficiencies have been misdiagnosed as mere addictions, subject to whim and will. The body needs niacin and it knows nicotine will work if niacin isn't available. This is not a conscious function.

The objective is to decrease adolescent smoking by removing the dietary deficiency, hence the body's need for the nicotine. The U.S. RDA for niacin ranges from about 15mg to about 20mg per day, but to get that much a person needs to eat a serving of chicken, a serving of turkey, a serving of Spinach and a bowl of fortified cereal each day or smoke 2 packs of cigarettes.

This shed an entirely new light on the problem of teen smoking. It meant that teens might not be smoking because it was "cool" or because the nicotine was addictive; it might be because tobacco was fulfilling a nutritional deficiency in their diets. Niacin deficiency is common outside the United States and, in its severest form, Pellagra, it can kill. It is rare in this country because since Dr Goldberger discovered niacin as a nutrient in 1895, corn meal and wheat flour have been fortified much the same way as salt is fortified with iodine.

Iodine, as a substance, is a poison, but in very small amounts, it is required by the body for thyroid function and preventing unwanted growths like goiters. A body requires less than a thimbleful of iodine for a lifetime, but without that thimbleful, it doesn't have a life. Niacin is similar in that it doesn't take a lot (20 mg RDA) and too much is toxic. A single gram of niacin is toxic to most humans. [Actually, the writer here may have some false information of niacin toxicity. People have been known to take several grams of niacin without any toxic effects. - Sepp]

Niacin, like iodine, is hard to find in the diet without supplementing it somewhere. For example, to receive the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of niacin (20 mg), a person would need to eat 3 servings of poultry, 3 servings of pork and a baked potato with skin to get 20 mg of natural niacin. Other alternatives would include 5 bowls of fortified cereal or 15 servings of french fries. Another problem is that some people with gastrointestinal problems have trouble absorbing niacin, even if it is in the diet.

I realized that there was nothing wrong with Festinger's Theory; what was wrong was the current view of nicotine as a cultural or behavioral symptom. A person has only 2 choices when it comes to oxygen, do it or die. The same choice applies to niacin and iodine. Without it we die. Lack of niacin or iodine may not be as quick a death as a lack of oxygen, but the results are just as certain.

The result of this information was the formulation of a theory that teenagers may be smoking to fulfill the nutritional need for niacin. In order to test this, a comparison will be done comparing teen smoking and diet. The best way to do this is with a controlled survey of the high schools. If the information from the survey supports that teen smoking has a dietary link, then efforts will be made to improve the nutritional levels of that segment of our society that seems to have the least concern for nutrition, teenagers.

Supplements: The Real Story - Natural or Synthetic? Foods or Tablets?

Thanks for this article go to Andrew Saul, editor of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service which you can subscribe to at http://orthomolecular.org/subscribe.html.
(OMNS, Jan 17, 2012) It's a nutritional "Catch 22": The public is told, confusingly: "Vitamins are good, but vitamin supplements are not. Only vitamins from food will help you. So just eat a good diet. Do not take supplements! But by the way, there is no difference between natural and synthetic vitamins."

Wait a minute. What's the real story here?

A recent health study reported that the risk of heart failure decreased with increasing blood levels of vitamin C [1]. The benefit of vitamin C (ascorbate) was highly significant. Persons with the lowest plasma levels of ascorbate had the highest risk of heart failure, and persons with the highest levels of vitamin C had the lowest risk of heart failure. This finding confirms the knowledge derived over the last 50 years that vitamin C is a major essential factor in cardiovascular health [2,3]. The study raises several important questions about diet and vitamin supplements.

Was it Food or Supplements?

The report discussed vitamin C as if it were simply an indicator of how many fruits and vegetables were consumed by the participants. Yet, ironically, the study's results show little improvement in the risk for heart failure from consuming fruits and vegetables. This implies that the real factor in reducing the risk was indeed the amount of vitamin C consumed. Moreover, the study appears to utterly ignore the widespread use of vitamin C supplements to improve cardiovascular health. In fact, out of four quartile groups, the quartile with the highest plasma vitamin C had six to ten times the rate of vitamin C supplementation of the lowest quartile, but this fact was not emphasized. This type of selective attention to food sources of vitamin C, while dismissing supplements as an important source, appears to be an attempt to marginalize the importance of vitamin supplements.

Many medical and nutritional reports have maintained that there is little difference between natural and synthetic vitamins. This is known to be true for some essential nutrients. The ascorbate found in widely available vitamin C tablets is identical to the ascorbate found in fruits and vegetables [3]. Linus Pauling emphasized this fact, and explained how ordinary vitamin C, inexpensively manufactured from glucose, could improve health in many important ways [4]. Indeed, the above-mentioned study specifically measured the plasma level of ascorbate, which was shown to be an important factor associated with lower risk of heart failure [1, 2]. The study did not measure blood plasma levels of the components of fruits and vegetables. It measured vitamin C.

A known rationale for this dramatic finding is that vitamin C helps to prevent inflammation in the arteries by several mechanisms. It is a necessary co-factor for the synthesis of collagen, which is a major component of arteries. Vitamin C is also an important antioxidant throughout the body that can help to recycle other antioxidants like vitamin E and glutathione in the artery walls [2,3]. This was underscored by a report that high plasma levels of vitamin C are associated with a 50% reduction in risk for stroke [5].

- - -

Yes, Synthetic Vitamin C is Clinically Effective

We can almost hear "Unsubscribe" links being clicked as we state it, but here it is: synthetic vitamin C works, in real people with real illnesses. Ascorbate's efficacy has little direct relation to food intake. A dramatic case of this was a dairy farmer in New Zealand who was on life support with lung whiteout, kidney failure, leukemia and swine flu [6]. He was given 100,000 mg of vitamin C daily and his life was saved. We have nothing against oranges or other vitamin C-containing foods. Fruits and vegetables are good for you for many, many reasons. However, you'll need to get out your calculator to help you figure out how many oranges it would take to get that much, and then also figure how to get a sick person to eat them all.

It is established that liver function improves with vitamin C supplementation, and it is equally well known that adequate levels of vitamin C are essential for the proper functioning of the immune system. Vitamin C improves the ability of the white blood cells to fight bacteria and viruses. OMNS has more articles expanding on this topic, available for free access at http://orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/index.shtml .

Deficiency of vitamin C is very common. According to US Department of Agriculture (USDA) data, [7] nearly half of Americans do not get even the US RDA of vitamin C, which is a mere 90 mg.

Synthetic Vitamin E is Less Effective

For some other nutrients, there is a significant difference in efficacy between synthetic and natural forms. Vitamin E is a crucial anti-oxidant, but also has other functions in the body, not all well understood. It comprises eight different biochemical forms, alpha-, beta-, delta- and gamma tocopherols, and alpha-, beta-, delta-, and gamma-tocotrienols. All of these forms of vitamin E are important for the body. Current knowledge about the function of vitamin E is rapidly expanding, and each of the eight forms of natural vitamin E is thought to have a slightly different function in the body. For example, gamma-tocotrienol actually kills prostate cancer stem cells better than chemotherapy does. ( http://orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/v07n11.shtml )

Synthetic vitamin E is widely available and inexpensive. It is "DL-alpha-tocopherol." Yes, it has the same antioxidant properties in test tube experiments as does the natural "D-alpha-tocopherol" form. However, the DL- form has only 50% of the biological efficacy, because the body utilizes only the natural D isomer, which comprises half of the synthetic mix [8]. Therefore, studies utilizing DL-alpha-tocopherol that do not take this fact into account are starting with an already-halved dose that will naturally lead to a reduction in the observed efficacy.

Then there are the esterified forms of vitamin E such as acetate or succinate. These esterified forms, either natural or synthetic, have a greater shelf life because the ester protects the vitamin E from being oxidized and neutralized. When acid in the stomach cleaves the acetate or succinate component from the original natural vitamin E molecule, the gut can then absorb a good fraction and the body receives its antioxidant benefit. But when esterified vitamin E acetate is applied to the skin to prevent inflammation, it is ineffective because there is no acid present to remove the acetate ester.

Based on USDA data [9] an astonishing 90% of Americans do not get the RDA of vitamin E, which is, believe it or not, under 23 IU (15mg) per day.

Magnesium Deficiency is Widespread

Magnesium is another example. Over two-thirds of the population do not get the RDA of magnesium. [10] Deficiency can cause a wide variety of symptoms, including osteoporosis, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, depression, and diabetes. Magnesium can be purchased in many forms. The most widely available form is magnesium oxide, which is not very effective because it is only about 5% absorbed [11]. Magnesium oxide supplements are popular because the pills are smaller -- they contain more magnesium, but won't help most people. Better forms of magnesium are magnesium citrate, magnesium malate, and the best absorbed is magnesium chloride. It's always good to consult your doctor to determine your ideal intake. Testing may reveal unexpected deficiency. [12]

Well, Which? Natural or Synthetic?

While the natural form of vitamin E (mixed natural tocopherols and tocotrienols) is at least twice as effective as the synthetic form, this is not true of vitamin C. The ascorbate that the body gets from fruits and vegetables is the same as the ascorbate in vitamin C tablets. On first thought, this may sound confusing, because there are many so-called "natural" forms of vitamin C widely available. But virtually every study that demonstrated that supplemental vitamin C fights illness used plain, cheap, synthetic ascorbic acid. Other forms of ascorbate, for instance, the sodium or magnesium salt of ascorbic acid, are digested slightly differently by the gut, but once the ascorbate molecule is absorbed from these forms, it has identical efficacy. The advantage of these ascorbate salts is that they are non-acidic and can be ingested or topically applied to any part of the body without concern about irritation from acidity.

Further, it is known that essential nutrients are symbiotic, that is, they are more effective when taken as a group in proper doses. For example, vitamin E is more effective when taken along with vitamin C and selenium, because each of these essential nutrients can improve the efficacy of the others. Similarly, the B vitamins are more effective when taken together. Readers with dosage questions will want to consult their healthcare provider, and also look at freely available information archived at
http://orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/index.shtml .

Food Factors

Natural food factors are also important. Bioflavonoids and other vitamin C-friendly components in fresh fruits and vegetables (sometimes called "vitamin C complex") do indeed have health benefits. These natural components are easily obtained from a healthy, unprocessed whole foods diet. However, eating even a very good diet does not supply nearly enough vitamin C to be effective against illness. A really good diet might provide several hundred milligrams of vitamin C daily. An extreme raw food diet might provide two or three thousand milligrams of vitamin C, but this is not practical for most people. Supplementation, with a good diet, is.

The principle that "natural" vitamins are better than synthetic vitamins is a widely quoted justification for actually avoiding vitamin supplements. The argument goes, because vitamins and minerals are available from food in their natural form, that somehow one might suppose that we are best off by ignoring supplements. Apparently this is what the authors of the above-mentioned study had in mind, because the report hardly mentions vitamin supplements.

Conclusion

In the real world of today's processed food, most of us don't get all the nutrients we need in adequate doses. Most people are deficient in several of the essential nutrients. These deficiencies are responsible for much suffering, including heart disease, cancer, premature aging, dementia, diabetes, and other diseases such as eye disease, multiple sclerosis and asthma. The above-mentioned study showing the efficacy of vitamin C in reducing heart failure is but one of the many studies showing the value of vitamins. Others are discussed and available at
http://orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/index.shtml .

For vitamin E, the natural form, taken in adequate doses along with a nutritious diet, is the best medicine. However, for most vitamins, including vitamin C, the manufactured form is identical to the natural one. Both are biologically active and both work clinically. It all comes down to dose. Supplements enable optimum intake; foods alone do not.

Don't be fooled: nutrient deficiency is the rule, not the exception. That's why we need supplements. When ill, we need them even more.

America's Largest Database Confirms: No Deaths from Vitamins

The new 203-page annual report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers, published online here, shows zero deaths from multiple vitamins; zero deaths from any of the B vitamins; zero deaths from vitamins A, C, D, or E; and zero deaths from any other vitamin.

Additionally, there were no deaths whatsoever from any amino acid or dietary mineral supplement.

Three people died from non-supplement mineral poisoning: two from medical use of sodium and one from non-supplemental iron. On page 131, the AAPCC report specifically indicates that the iron fatality was not from a nutritional supplement.

USA: The FDA is closing in on supplements

More telling about the FDA’s strategy for more heavy-handed regulation is the statement that “If you look at the numbers of NDI submissions versus the number of supplements introduced to the market since 1994, it would appear there is a significant lag in compliance.” On its face, the marketplace has changed over the last seventeen years. But who is responsible for this 17-year lag in compliance?

The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) required manufacturers to submit pre-market notification applications for supplements and new ingredients when there is a history of use or other evidence establishing that an ingredient is safe when used as directed. The FDA has 75 days to accept or reject the application. A non-decision by the FDA means that the Agency accepts the evidence and that the product has complied, is approved, and can be marketed to the consuming public. Alternatively, a formal petition for a review and FDA issuance of an order prescribing the conditions under which a new dietary ingredient can be used and reasonably be expected to be safe, with the FDA having to respond within 180 days, can be filed. Again, shouldn’t a non-decision on a petition be considered as final Agency approval? If the Agency does not issue a decision either way, or if it cannot find a decision that was issued over the previous seventeen years, has it been the industry or the FDA itself who has not been in compliance with DSHEA?

Apparently, the FDA believes that manufacturers and suppliers have not met the FDA’s own self-interpreted DSHEA burden of proof standard to show to the FDA that there is reasonable evidence that supplements and new ingredients in supplements are safe.

Food and Nutraceutical Regulations - Global Snapshot

Every system of regulation has its pros and cons. The labelling of health-related foods should be based on scientific evidence, always bearing in mind harmonisation with global international standards. There should be a harmonisation of food regulations around the world. Economic growth and urbanisation are not enough evidence of the future growth of nutraceuticals, health demographic trends also support these growth forecasts. Consumers are deeply concerned about how their health care is managed, administered and priced. As health care cost has become high the consumers are frustrated with the expensive disease-treatment approach predominant in modern medicine; the consumer is now seeking alternative beneficial products like dietary supplement, functional food and nutraceuticals.

With innovative delivery mechanism to facilitate the use of nutraceuticals amongst its target groups, the world market is expected to witness a gradual shift toward natural ingredients.

The article discusses several of the major food regulatory systems and compares them. It becomes obvious that there are huge national differences in how to treat foods and in particular healthy foods. The question is: If those laws are to be somehow brought closer to each other, which would be the model to follow?
Other supporters of herbal medicine worry that the rules are too demanding and could ban some therapies on which people depend. Adam Smith, science and communications officer for the Alliance for Natural Health International (ANHI) in Dorking, United Kingdom, a non-governmental campaign group promoting the use of herbal medicines and other approaches to healthcare, fears that patients will lose out on some Asian medicines because they have not been used in Europe for the requisite 15 years, even though they have been consumed in East Asia for considerably longer.

ANHI also detects a perceived bias in the THMPD towards products developed in the West, which often contain just one herb. Traditional Asian products contain mixtures of several herbs — making it difficult, time consuming and expensive to meet the directive's requirement to identify and quantify the active botanical ingredients or other biological agents in a herbal product. “These technical assessments require expensive methods,” says Smith. “The cost burden is a problem, particularly for small businesses,” he adds.

Middleton agrees that conducting scientific analyses are “tough” — even for products containing just one herb...

The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared the overdoses from opioid drugs like OxyContin an "epidemic." And a growing group of experts doubts that they work for long-term pain.

But the pills continue to have an influential champion in the American Pain Foundation, which describes itself as the nation's largest advocacy group for pain patients. Its message: The risk of addiction is overblown, and the drugs are underused.

What the nonprofit doesn't highlight is the money behind that message.

The foundation collected nearly 90 percent of its $5 million funding last year from the drug and medical-device industry -- and closely mirrors its positions, an examination by ProPublica found.

After the case, the Wrays’ lawyer Jenny Wiltshire said: ‘These parents have been through hell. They can now grieve for the son they loved and cherished.’

Yet theirs is a case which has profound implications for all families. For it serves to highlight a growing medical problem — one which is not only leading to false allegations of abuse against innocent parents, but which is endangering the health of children right across Britain.

As Jenny Wiltshire said: ‘The real criminality here is that if the money spent on bringing this case had been used to tell all breastfeeding mothers to take vitamin D supplements, Jayden’s death wouldn’t have occurred.

A recent publication in the Annals of Medicine has exposed the fraudulent nature of Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines such as Gardasil and Cervarix. Key messages the researchers report include a lack of evidence for any HPV vaccines in preventing cervical cancer and lack of evaluation of health risks.

In other words, contrary to conventional drug treatments aimed at targeted existing diseases, in a supposed preventative vaccination, a compromise in efficacy for the benefit of safety should not be seen as an unreasonable expectation. Furthermore, physicians are ethically obliged to provide an accurate explanation of vaccine risks and benefits to their patients and, where applicable, a description of alternative courses of treatment. This in turn enables patients to make a fully informed decision with regard to vaccination.

The problem is, vaccinations such as HPV are not preventative, they do compromise safety and physicians will never provide accurate explanations of vaccine risks and benefits because they do not know themselves. Physicians can only rely on the information from vaccine manufacturers and since long-term pharmacokinetic effects which study the bodily absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of vaccines and their ingredients are never examined or analyzed, a Physician can never fully inform of patient of ANY benefits or risks.

The December 1st issue of Time Magazine carries a special section on "The Year in Medicine," which mentions the case of Hannah Poling, the young girl with autism who received compensation from the federal vaccine injury program.

Like many news accounts back then, Time has called the case "rare," because it involved an underlying dysfunction of Hannah's mitochondria, the little powerhouses within each cell that produce energy.

The widespread misconception that Hannah's case was "unique," and without any bearing on other autism cases, was promulgated by opinion leaders such as CDC Director Julie Gerberding and the newly rich vaccine inventor Dr. Paul Offit, (who told Newsweek that his share of the royalties from the vaccine was "like winning the lottery.")

But on Wednesday, a new chart-review study was published showing that "mitochondrial autism" is not rare at all.

"These and prior data suggest a disturbance of mitochondrial energy production as an underlying pathophysiological mechanism in a subset of individuals with autism," wrote the authors of the study, "Mitochondrial Disease in Autism Spectrum Disorder Patients: A Cohort Analysis."

The CDC Has Known All Along How Dangerous Vaccines Are - And Has Covered It Up... (Part Five)

In this fifth article of this series I will explain where this is all going, what is really happening here - the use of the Judiciary branch of the US Government to rein in the activities of an out-of-control federal agency - the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) - a Division of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

And something more. Much more. It is time for criminal indictment.

The search for documents, in this court case, is uncovering a pattern of criminal activity. Whoever is running, making the decisions to withhold documents at CDC, knows where all this is going. I am certain that within the walls of the CDC, right this minute, certain CDC employees - past and present, contractors, and consultants, etc. are quietly being told to personally "lawyer-up," and familiarize themselves on how to make claim to the Fifth Amendment provisions of the US Constitution (taking the Fifth).

Is there really criminal activity here?

You bet there is. Major criminal activity. The people involved in this denial of the effects of Thimerosal in vaccines, and the cover up of the real situation, are some of, perhaps, the worst criminals in the history of mankind. Just look at the numbers of children damaged, and the cost to society - worldwide. This is far worse than anything the NAZIs, or Stalin, did. This overshadows any genocide effort in the history of mankind.

This isn't about simple fraud, the marketing of vaccines, or some comparison of preservatives in vaccines. This is about major damage to children. And it is all coming out.

Olive oil comes from olives. Sesame seed oil comes from sesame seeds.

But what is a canola? Canola is actually a made-up word for a genetically modified product.

Canola stands for “Canadian oil low acid.” It’s (sadly) a Canadian invention and subsidized by the government. The subsidies make it very cheap to use, so almost all processed or packaged foods contain canola oil.

The claim is that canola is safe to use because through modification it is no longer rapeseed but “canola.” Except… canola is just genetically modified rapeseed. It has been marketed as a wonder oil that is low in saturated fats with a beneficial omega-3 fatty acid profile. It is recognized by the American Dietetic Association and the American Heart Association based on the belief that the absence of saturated fats alone makes it healthy.

One study linked aspartame with cancer, while another study of 60,000 pregnant women found that the amount of aspartame consumed by mothers-to-be could potentially increase the danger of premature birth.

However, health watchdogs including the Food Standards Agency (FSA) have so far said it does not pose a risk to health.

Now EU officials have asked the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to accelerate the scheduling of a safety review planned for 2020, following requests by a number of MEPs.

False Claims, Off-Label Prescribing & Doctors

Over the past fiscal year, the US Justice Department recovered nearly $2.2 billion under the False Claims Act against the pharmaceutical industry for fraud against federal healthcare programs, notably Medicaid and Medicare. In doing so, the feds say drugmakers relied on various forms of illegal promotion or pricing to bolster prescriptions and profits.

To establish marketing fraud, the feds typically examine a sequence of events that involves a drugmaker inducing a doctor to prescribe a drug on an off-label basis. Doctors are free to do so, of course, but drugmakers are not supposed to promote their meds for used not approved by the FDA. Meanwhile, a prescription will later get filled by a pharmacy, ultimately, resulting in a false claim.

Rarely, though, do the feds ever consider pursuing a False Claims Act against physicians. The line of reasoning is simply that individual doctors - or pharmacists, for that matter - are generally not worth the effort in terms of needed resources and potential returns. But one attorney has been waging a court battle in hopes of reducing off-label prescriptions of antipsychotics to children who are on Medicaid.

The issue has been contentious for several years, especially before several drugmakers won FDA approval to market their antipsychotics to increasingly younger children. There is still controversy. A recent US Government Accountability Office report found that foster children - including some as young as one year old - are inappropriately prescribed psychotropics.

The paper is in a Special Issue of the journal titled “Brain Tumor.”

The study raises very serious concerns about the potential for a large increase in brain cancer incidence, resulting from widespread mobile phone use. The steep increase in brain cancer will begin in approximately 15 years according to the projections.

Evidence Based Medicine Is a Fraud - Here’s Why

Evidence Based Medicine, EBM, is the current calling card of conventional medical treatment. Just the sound of it carries the cachet of high quality medicine. Who wouldn’t want health treatments to be based on evidence?

The reality, though, is that EBM is fraudulent. It gives the impression of proof for efficacy of medical treatment, but is largely a smokescreen designed to sell medical products.

We should first take a hard look at the reality behind so many of the studies evoked to support EBM treatments. It’s becoming a well-known scandal that much of what passes for science in medical journals is at best useless, and at worst is devastatingly harmful—as demonstrated in the mass drugging of women going through the natural process of menopause.

American Association of Physicians and Surgeons Says Influenza Vaccine for Health Care Workers Should be Voluntary

Fewer than half of American Health Care Workers choose to be immunized annually against influenza. We believe that the professional judgment of these workers should be respected.

The proposed Colorado policy requires that facilities inform workers of the benefits and risks of influenza immunization. It does not specify what these are. What is the purpose of this information if workers are not allowed to make a decision based upon it? What provisions are made for indemnifying workers who experience an adverse effect, some of which can lead to death, hospitalization, or long-term disability?

In the age of “evidence-based medicine,” it is shocking that there is so little evidence that the influenza vaccination program is effective. Indeed, there is evidence that it may be ineffective (http://www.jpands.org/vol11no3/geier.pdf). Safety data are reported in very few studies: only five randomized studies with 2,963 observations extending only one week after the injection. In fact, the coordinator of the vaccines section of the Cochrane Collaboration called for an urgent reevaluation of the UK’s influenza vaccination program (Jefferson T, Influenza vaccination: policy versus evidence. BMJ 2006;333:912-915). In particular, the safety of many repeated similar vaccinations is not addressed. Allergic, anaphylactic, hyperimmune, and dysimmune reactions are possible.

The World Cancer Research Fund has just completed a detailed review of more than 7,000 clinical studies covering links between diet and cancer. Its conclusion is rocking the health world with startling bluntness: Processed meats are too dangerous for human consumption. Consumers should stop buying and eating all processed meat products for the rest of their lives.

Processed meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, sandwich meat, packaged ham, pepperoni, salami and virtually all red meat used in frozen prepared meals. They are usually manufactured with a carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium nitrite. This is used as a color fixer by meat companies to turn packaged meats a bright red color so they look fresh. Unfortunately, sodium nitrite also results in the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines in the human body. And this leads to a sharp increase in cancer risk for those who eat them.

Rare gene variant implicates vitamin D in cause of multiple sclerosis

A rare genetic variant that appears to be directly and causally linked to multiple sclerosis (MS) has been identified by Oxford University researchers.

The researchers then looked for the rare gene variant in over 3,000 families of unaffected parents with a child with MS. They found 35 parents who carried one copy of this variant along with one normal copy. In every one of these 35 cases, the child with MS had inherited the mutated version of the gene.

The likelihood of this gene’s transmission being unconnected to the MS is billions to one against, the researchers say.

The very strong implication is that in these particular cases of MS, low vitamin D levels are directly connected to the disease.

The researchers believe there are wider implications of this finding. They suggest that low levels of vitamin D are likely to play a role in MS more generally.

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. There are over 100 different types of cancer, and each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected. Cancer harms the body when damaged cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps or masses of tissue called tumors (except in the case of leukemia where cancer prohibits normal blood function by abnormal cell division in the blood stream).

Tumors can grow and interfere with the digestive, nervous, and circulatory systems, and they can release hormones that alter body function. Tumors that stay in one spot and demonstrate limited growth are generally considered to be benign. More dangerous, or malignant, tumors form when two things occur:

1. a cancerous cell manages to move throughout the body using the blood or lymph systems, destroying healthy tissue in a process called invasion

2. that cell manages to divide and grow, making new blood vessels to feed itself in a process called angiogenesis.

Too Big to Prosecute? - Health Supreme NewsGrabs 11 December 2011

Merck—Too Big to Prosecute?

There is a surprising reason why the [US] government won’t go after drug companies for serious crimes.

It is because government programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and the Veterans Administration would then be barred from doing business with them!

In 1999 the FDA approved Vioxx, a drug created by Merck and Co. to treat arthritis. Vioxx was pulled off the market in 2004 because evidence showed it greatly increased the risk of heart attack in the 25 million Americans who had taken the drug. Some 50,000 patients sued, and 27,000 of the plaintiffs received $4.85 billion in settlement of their claims.

Last week the Department of Justice announced that Merck has agreed to pay a $321 million criminal fine and plead guilty to one misdemeanor count of illegally introducing a drug into interstate commerce. Merck also is paying $426 million to the federal government and $202 million to state Medicaid agencies. Those payments will settle civil claims that its marketing caused doctors to prescribe and bill the government for Vioxx they otherwise would not have prescribed.

Please note that these settlements are for rather minor infractions—not for deliberately concealing the danger of a killing drug from patients, the medical community, and their investors. Despite the serious consequences of Merck’s actions, the government won’t prosecute them for any serious charges—because, if they did and won, it would mean they would have to stop doing business with Merck in the future! Federal law makes it illegal for Medicare and Medicaid to do business with “an excluded or debarred entity resulting from serious criminal charges.”

Well with banks too big to fail and pharmaceutical companies too big to prosecute, no wonder small is beautiful!

European Parliament Faces Major Test Over EU Health Claims

A European Commission standing committee agreed to pass a proposal for a regulation to the European Parliament that will, if approved, authorise European food suppliers to use 224 health claims linked to just 70 foods and ingredients, EU-wide. Additionally, around 2,500 other claims that did not receive positive opinions from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), will be banned. The European Parliament will now have 90 days to scrutinise the proposal before making its decision.

Alliance for Natural Health International (ANH-Intl), a non-governmental organisation campaigning for the right to natural health and consumer freedom of choice, believes that the European Parliament should reject the European Commission’s proposal in its present form.

Explaining ANH-Intl’s position, Dr Robert Verkerk, its executive and scientific director, said, “Ensuring consumers are not given false and misleading claims, the key objective of the regulation, is laudable. But removing the majority of claims, some 92% of those evaluated, on the basis of scientific methods that are derived from a pharmaceutical rather than nutritional science model is simply madness.”

New studies on the effects of today’s antibiotics on the intestinal mucosa – with a surface area of the size of a football pitch and where more than 70% of all immune cells are to be found – have shown that they lead to:
- Transformations to the genetic structure of individual bacterial strains
- Decrease in production of energy in bacteria and in immune cells
Evidence-Based Medicine: Neither Evidence nor Good Medicine

Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is the practice of treating individual patients based on the outcomes of huge medical trials. It is, currently the self-proclaimed gold standard for medical decision-making, and yet it is increasingly unpopular with clinicians. Their reservations reflect an intuitive understanding that something is wrong with its methodology. They are right to think this, for EBM breaks the laws of so many disciplines that it should not even be considered scientific. Indeed, from the viewpoint of a rational patient, the whole edifice is crumbling.

The assumption that EBM is good science is unsound from the start. Decision science and cybernetics (the science of communication and control) highlight the disturbing consequences. EBM fosters marginally effective treatments, based on population averages rather than individual need. Its mega-trials are incapable of finding the causes of disease, even for the most diligent medical researchers, yet they swallow up research funds. Worse, EBM cannot avoid exposing patients to health risks.

Book Review: The World According To Monsanto

Like the Fluoride Deception, The World According to Monsanto is deeply and viscerally disturbing, while if anything the potential for harm being discussed is far greater than that even from water fluoridation.

There is almost nothing at all that has been peer-reviewed published on the topic and that is the result of very specific regulatory decisions taken concerning GM foods. I will say again, there are hardly a handful of articles in the peer-reviewed literature looking at the health effects of any given GM food, let alone the incredibly complex issue in general.

As noted in the book, this is due to a curious decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulators to declare a-priori, and over the objection of FDA scientists, that GM foods are “substantially equivalent” to non genetically modified foods and thus can be released without any oversight, studies or regulation. The terrible absurdity of this position (and why there are no studies on the health effects of these new organisms) takes a moment to sink in and requires departure from the book review for a brief moment.

Vaccines are designed to create a state of inflammation, and raise LDL and CRP levels. Why then would we give a vaccine to a patient who already has an inflammatory kidney or heart event? Why wouldn’t it be obvious that vaccination can make these conditions worse? With an understanding of the above and the absence of placebo-controlled, long-term follow up studies, we cannot reassure people that vaccines will not create or exacerbate an autoimmune disease. Vaccine-induced acute autoimmune reactions including Guillain-Barre syndrome, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, vasculitis and nephritis are well-described in the medical literature and often listed on vaccine package inserts. If patients were followed longer and if doctors took a more accurate vaccine administration history (of the vaccines given before the new medical problems occur), more vaccine-associated damage would become obvious.

New Study Verifies Mercury In Flu Shots Is Toxic

The toxic effects of the mercury, also known in vaccines as Thimerosal, have once again been confirmed, this time by researchers from the University of Brazil. Marking the sixth major study in recent months to condemn the use of mercury in medicine, the new study reveals that mercury causes serious brain damage, and is linked to autism and other developmental diseases in children and Alzheimer’s disease in adults.

Dr. Jose Dorea and his colleagues conducted an extensive, peer-reviewed analysis of various studies and available information in major databases that address the effects of low-dose Thimerosal, or ethylmercury, on neural tissue and behavior. They found conclusively that Thimerosal accumulates in brain tissue, negatively affects brain development, and harms brain cells.

“Mercury is known to cause serious harm, especially to fetuses and children because of their smaller size,” said Lisa Sykes, president of the Coalition for Mercury-free Drugs (CoMeD), a non-profit group dedicated to removing mercury from medicine. “Why remove Thimerosal from pediatric vaccines only to inject it into pregnant women and children with recommended flu shots?

It’s January 1990, during the pioneer build-out of mobile phone service. A cell tower goes up 800 feet from the house of Alison Rall, in Mansfield, Ohio, where she and her husband run a 160-acre dairy farm. The first thing the Rall family notices is that the ducks on their land lay eggs that don’t hatch. That spring there are no ducklings.

By the fall of 1990, the cattle herd that pastures near the tower is sick. The animals are thin, their ribs are showing, their coats growing rough, and their behavior is weird – they’re agitated, nervous. Soon the cows are miscarrying, and so are the goats. Many of the animals that gestate are born deformed. There are goats with webbed necks, goats with front legs shorter than their rear legs. One calf in the womb has a tumor the size of a basketball, another carries a tumor three feet in diameter, big enough that he won’t pass through the birth canal.

Ten Tips To Boost Immunity Naturally - Health Supreme NewsGrabs 4 December 2011

10 Natural Tips To Boost Immunity This Winter

Flu season is headed our way and in a few weeks many will suffer, but you don't have to be one of them if you start boosting immunity now. Here are 10 simple ways to prep your body so it's strong enough to repel viral invaders all winter long.

Best wishes for a flu-free winter!

1) Adequate levels of Vitamin D are essential for our immune systems to function the way it is designed to. Unfortunately, there are no significant dietary sources of Vitamin D -- most of our intake comes from exposure to sunlight. To optimize your Vitamin D levels, you'll need to take a Vitamin D3 supplement daily. This is the most important step you can take to prevent the flu!

2) A strong immune system relies heavily on having a healthy, well-functioning gut -- and probiotics help keep your gut engine humming...

A reader and friend on facebook added an 11th tip, which we might consider, in addition to the ten in the Huffington Post article: Vitamin C - The Healing Factor and she added: "A good boost of vitamin C will also help. Humans do not make their own vitamin C, unlike most other animals, so we have to make sure it is part of our diet. We may no longer suffer from scurvy but there is evidence of health problems related to subclinical scurvy."

Is there an important advantage in actually getting the flu?

The paper suggests that people with preexisting antibodies to different H1N1 strains had more immunity to swine flu H1N1 than those without. Getting a flu infection (whether or not you actually get sick... since the majority of people with influenza infections show few if any symptoms) leaves you with long-lived antibodies, and many more of them, than someone has who got vaccine. And they protect against similar strains, which flu vaccine usually fails to do.

This might explain the data from Canada and Hong Kong (that I have blogged about several times) which showed that receiving flu vaccine in 2008 led to almost double the likelihood of getting sick from swine flu in 2009. In other words, the unvaccinated from the previous flu season fended off swine flu much better than the previous season's vaccinated people did.

Insane Science: Man-made flu virus with potential to wipe out many millions is created in research lab

A group of scientists is pushing to publish research about how they created a man-made flu virus that could potentially wipe out civilisation.

The deadly virus is a genetically tweaked version of the H5N1 bird flu strain, but is far more infectious and could pass easily between millions of people at a time.

The research has caused a storm of controversy and divided scientists, with some saying it should never have been carried out.

The current strain of H5N1 has only killed 500 people and is not contagious enough to cause a global pandemic.

But their are fears the modified virus is so dangerous it could be used for bio-warfare, if it falls into the wrong hands.

Australian journalist wins prestigious award for exposing flu vaccine scandal

Natasha Bita, a journalist for The Australian has just won a Walkley Award (the Australian equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize) for an in-depth article series on the CSL Afluria flu vaccine, a shot that caused convulsions in one percent of Australian infants who received it.

To put this vaccine scandal in perspective, the CDC states that ‘seizures can occur after vaccination,’ 33% of infants who have a first seizure will have more seizures and 10% of infants who have one seizure can develop epilepsy. According to the Merck Manual (the largest-selling medical textbook), seizures are a symptom of encephalitis, which the Merck Manual defines as a vaccine adverse reaction. Vaccine-induced encephalitis can leave a spectrum of permanent brain damage in its wake – post-encephalitic syndrome (aka epilepsy and autism). In other words, kids that have convulsions from Afluria can have lifelong neurological disabilities.

Incredibly, the defective CSL flu vaccine Afluria is still on the market in the US: FDA-approved and CDC-recommended.

It is interesting to see how important micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) are in Aids patients, especially magnesium ...

"There is compelling evidence that micronutrients can profoundly affect immunity. We surveyed vitamin supplement use and circulating concentrations of 22 nutrients and glutathione in 64 HIV-1 seropositive men and women and 33 seronegative controls participating in a study of heterosexual HIV-1 transmission. We assayed antioxidants (vitamins A, C, and E; total carotenes), vitamins B6 and B12, folate, thiamin, niacin, biotin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, free and total choline and carnitine, biopterin, inositol, copper, zinc, selenium, and magnesium. HIV-infected patients had lower mean circulating concentrations of magnesium, total carotenes, total choline, and glutathione, and higher concentrations of niacin than controls. Fifty-nine percent of HIV + patients had low concentrations of magnesium, compared with 9% of controls."

We all know that drinking too much can be bad for us; but did you know that drinking too little could be hazardous?

I don't want to go to rehab, but a raft of recent studies show that moderate alcohol consumption lowers our risks for many dire conditions including heart disease, stroke, gallstones, diabetes and dementia. Some studies even suggest that the answer to pesky menopause symptoms comes in six-packs and goes great with pretzels.

The keyword here is "moderate." Some studies define this as one drink per week; others as up to four drinks per day. This haziness notwithstanding, these studies show that heavy drinkers are far more likely than moderate drinkers to die from certain diseases.

But so are people who don't drink at all.

It's a bell curve. But while one half of the bell is well, duh, the other half -- the half involving abstinence -- is pretty shocking. In study after study, abstainers get sick and die sooner and in larger numbers than moderate drinkers.

Book: "While Science Sleeps" by Woodrowe C. Monte

Something very wrong is going on, something that is killing good people and causing untold suffering to families and communities around the world. Never has such a high percentage of us been afflicted with so many tragic and wasting illnesses. In the past thirty years, a group of diseases has reached epidemic proportions in the United States and many other countries. These afflictions, often collectively referred to as diseases of civilization (DOC), include multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, breast cancer, lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, melanoma, and autism, a once rare birth defect.

These are the worst of times, as mankind endures a plague whose point of origin distinctly coincides with the Food and Drug Administration’s 1981 approval of aspartame—an artificial sweetener containing methanol, which is metabolized into deadly formaldehyde within the brain and sinew of all who consume it. I am a food scientist who warned thirty years ago in the scientific literature of the hazards we court by adding large amounts of methanol to our food supply. I am a professor who taught my students of these dangers. I am an activist who took the FDA to the Supreme Court in an effort to compel it to carry out its mandate and obligation to protect the public. I am still waging this battle and will continue to fight until the salient and suppressed facts have been revealed...

With the implementation of Food Bill 160-2, massive new powers, including powers of arrest, will be given to “food safety officers”, who can be members of the private sector. That means employees of Monsanto could be authorized to conduct raids. Worse, they will be given immunity from criminal and civil prosecution for any acts during those raids. Even marae, communal and sacred places, will be subject to their actions. Warrants will not be required so there will be no need for evidence of a crime, meaning anyone could be raided at any time…and there will be no recourse, no matter how egregious their acts.

The purpose of the bill—as stated by New Zealand Food Safety Authority—is to bring New Zealand into line with Codex Alimentarius provisions.

Codex still believes saturated fats cause heart attacks

Adhering to the outdated views first espoused by the makers of Crisco in 1911, when they wanted to shove butter and lard off grocery-store shelves in favor of their new-fangled invention, Crisco (a shortened name form for “Crystallized Cottonseed Oil”), most Codex delegates still think that saturated fats are the cause of heart attacks. That is why the Committee wanted to establish an Nutrient Reference Vaue of no more than 10 percent of daily energy intake for this fat and push consumers towards a higher intake of the “safe” polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Such nonsense is often what passes for “science” at Codex these days, with no correlation to current research that anyone could pull off of Pub-Med within two minutes. The delegation of Malaysia, though, cannot be tarred with this tattered brush. Malaysia clearly and unequivocally stated its views that saturated fats had a role in the diet and were not correlated with the risk of coronary heart disease. The International Dairy Federation supported this view and provided its own defense of saturated fats in a healthy diet.

DOCTORS demanded more monitoring of vaccine side-effects yesterday after the federal government announced penalties for families who fail to immunise their children.

Australian Medical Association president Steve Hambleton said the government must introduce "active surveillance" to monitor side effects instead of relying on doctors and patients to report problems through "passive surveillance".

A study of exemption rates by the Associated Press finds that more and more parents are skipping required vaccines for their children, often out of fear that shots do more harm than good. More than half of all states have seen an increase in the number of exemptions and in eight states, mostly in the Northwest and Midwest, the percentage of kids not getting the full recommendation of shots is over 5 percent.

Doctors cite many reasons for the rise in requested exemptions, one of which is that it is simply easier than it used to be to opt out. In many places, parents who wish to enroll their kids in kindergarten without the required shots simply need to check a box on a form (which can be easier than taking their kids to the doctor.) Other cite religious reasons or the sheer volume of shots, which has increased with the development of new vaccines, like the one for chickenpox.

One of the biggest concerns remains the fear that vaccines cause autism or other development disorders...

Our bold & innovative ideas for increasing vaccine uptake are;

1. Conducting independent and unbiased vaccine safety research, both short term and long term, and also research on safety about the combined effect of various vaccines given to the children.

2. Compare the health of vaccinated vs non vaccinated children.

3. Identify all cases of vaccine induced deaths and damage.

4. Compensate parents of those children who died...

The Real Causes of Shaken Baby Syndrome That Mainstream Media Fail To Tell

A recent article in a UK newspaper suggested that about half of parents convicted of shaken baby syndrome (SBS) have been wrongly accused. However, a thorough investigation of all the scientific evidence shows that the real percentage of wrongly convicted people could be much higher than this.

What is extremely disturbing from the evidence is that these injuries can be caused by a combination of multiple vaccinations and other conditions that rapidly absorb the baby’s store of vitamin C, or to give it its correct name ascorbic acid, to the point of creating infantile scurvy.

Although you may be aware of the disease called scurvy, you may think it was something that only sailors suffered on their long sea voyages in the 18th century and that it was cured when they had adequate fresh food, specifically including limes or lemons.

However, the story is more complex and is still relevant today, for a lack of ascorbic acid can result in a variety of symptoms that are mistakenly attributed to other causes and, even more worryingly, sub-clinical scurvy is far more prevalent than is generally acknowledged by the mainstream medical establishment.

A new study shows a likely causal relationship between the vaccination adjuvant, aluminum, and autism.

The study’s focus is on the adjuvant aluminum. It’s a known neurotoxin that’s commonly used in vaccines. Of the 32 currently recommended vaccines for preschool children in the US, 18 contain aluminum. The number of vaccinations increased from 10 to 32 between the late ’70s and 2008. During this time, the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in children increased an astonishing 2000 percent. Yet, no serious study of a possible connection between childhood vaccines with adjuvant aluminum and ASD had been done … until now.

International Aids Day Special - Listening to medical propaganda, one would think a retrovirus is a very bad thing - something to be killed immediately wherever it is found. But nothing could be further from the truth.

Just like cholesterol has been condemned as "bad" and this lie has given rise to a billion-dollar industry of useless and even damaging cholesterol lowering (statin) drugs, so have retrovira been condemned, giving rise to a billion-dollar industry of Aids research and pharmaceutical intervention, to cocktails of "anti-retroviral" drugs they tell us are a must for anyone reacting to that very unspecific test that shows up stressed proteins associated with HIV. The retrovirus being targeted, HIV, incidentally has never been shown to do anything that could be construed as destroying the human immune system. As a matter of fact, it seems to be a necessary component of healing wounds and lesions, as Cal Crilly has discovered.

Cal is one of the few people who are able and willing to look at these details. His latest brainchild is a question: "Is HIV to be found just in lesions?"

Psychiatric drugs are big sellers. They are among the best selling drugs made. In 2010, Americans or their insurers doled out some $16.1 billion for anti-psychotics; $11.6 billion for anti-depressants; and $7.2 billion for ADHD treatments.

Within the last two decades the field of psychiatry has mushroomed from a fringe body of Sigmund Freud admirers to a mainstream player in the field of medical pharmacology, largely because of an unseemly union between that profession and the drug industry, leading to the creation of many never before known disease states and profitable ways to exploit those alleged diseases with psychiatric services and drugs.

Video from ABC NEWS – Psychiatrists Put Kids at Risk With Mind-Altering Drugs

Across America, doctors are putting foster children on powerful, mind-altering drugs at rates up to 13 times that of children in the general population. What’s more, doctors are prescribing foster children drugs at doses beyond what the Food and Drug Administration has approved, sometimes in potentially dangerous combinations, according to a new report by the federal Government Accountability Office.

“It’s just almost beyond comprehension,” said Sen. Thomas Carper, D-Del., who asked for the GAO investigation. “We want the doctors and nurses that are prescribing these medicines to look at their behavior and think and ask this question. Are we doing something wrong here?”

Big Pharma Paying Out Huge Fraud Settlements

The cost of doing business for big pharma is rising – dramatically. And it’s not because of research and development of new blockbusters to cure cancer, alleviate pain or help people get a good night’s sleep.

Merck on Tuesday said it will pay $950 million to settle criminal and civil allegations brought by the U.S. Department of Justice related to Merck’s marketing of Vioxx, a widely-used painkiller that was pulled from the shelves in 2004 after a study revealed the drug increased the risk of heart attacks. To make a very long story short, prosecutors believed Merck knew the drug posed a threat but lied about the potential risks in its marketing and sold it anyway. Why not? The drug raked in $2.5 billion in revenue in 2003.

The astounding thing about the Merck settlement is that it’s not even the largest of its kind this month. Three weeks ago, British drug maker GlaxoSmithKline, which, like Merck, has extensive operations in the U.S., reached a $3 billion settlement related to sprawling allegations tied to that company’s marketing of its diabetes drug Avandia.
The GlaxoSmithKline deal broke a record, topping a $2.3 billion settlement reached by Pfizer in September of 2009. And Pfizer’s deal came hard on the heels of a $1.4 billion settlement reached by Eli Lilly in January of 2009.

So, for those keeping score, Merck’s payout ranks fourth on the all-time list of massive settlements stemming from allegations of fraudulent marketing tactics by giant pharmaceutical companies.

Underground Health? - Health Supreme NewsGrabs 26 November 2011

UNDERGROUND HEALTH
by Jon Rappoport

The (health) movement has gone mainstream because people have a choice. They can think for themselves. They can act on their thoughts. There is that freedom.

Of course, we have health dictators in government who know what they want. And choice isn’t it. They want you to bow down and grovel and obey. It’s that simple. They’re criminals.

The FDA, for example, is a criminal agency. It has institutionalized its crimes. Made those crimes part of government.

The FDA can look the other way while the medical system kills 225,000 people a year, 106,000 from the effects of approved and certified drugs. (Starfield, July 26, 2000, JAMA, “Is US health really the best in the world?”)

The FDA can also, at the same time, try to decimate the nutritional-supplement industry, whose products kill virtually no one every year.

Is the USA setting itself up to squeeze out dietary supplements like in Europe?

Natural healthcare, most especially herbal medicine, is under the cosh in Europe at the moment. Anyone keeping an eye on our website for any length of time knows how a slew of inappropriate legislation, masterminded by large companies in cahoots with the European Commission and powerful member state governments, is slowly engulfing many forms of natural medicine. The losers in this process are the smaller players who have long been at the forefront of providing the most therapeutically relevant natural products. They simply get squeezed out, less so by direct bans, but more as a result of regulatory burdens they simply can’t negotiate through lack of cash.

But the FDA has been getting ever closer to the European authorities. They have worked together as the two most powerful entities in the Codex Alimentarius for many years...

Time to ‘Occupy the FDA’?

Regulators worldwide are working increasingly closely together, so it’s no surprise that we can expect increasing convergence in the different regulatory systems. This is what globalisation is about, and it’s all about making the environment as cosy as possible for the biggest corporate players out there. Big Pharma, Big Food and Big Bitech are among the masterminds of this system, and they don’t like to see a bunch of us out there looking after our own health using natural substances, failing to get ill, not seeing doctors, not taking drugs and being vaccinated, growing our own organic food — basically operating outside the system they created.

USA: House Bill Would Spare Thousands of Dietary Supplements From Being Removed

Last July, the FDA stunned supplement manufacturers with its proposed Guidance that would require all dietary ingredients introduced into the marketplace since 1994 to undergo drug-like safety testing prior to marketing. The tests could cost millions of dollars per each new ingredient, and that includes each variation on that ingredient too. These requirements would not make supplements any safer than they are today and would require supplement makers to lay aside 20 years of profits to conduct the tests. To make matters worse, tens of thousands of workers could lose their jobs as the supplement industry would be forced to remove products from store shelves.

A lifelong UK-based herbal sector academic who was attacked by the Alliance for National Heath (ANH) on Friday over her views about herbal medicine regulations, says she is “crushed and devastated” by assertions made in the ANH letter.

The invisible campaign to restrict UK herbal medicines

An under-the-radar campaign has been launched in the UK, calling itself ‘The Safer Herbal Medicine Campaign’ (SHMC). It aims to pressure the UK medicines regulator to remove botanical food supplements from the market

Its concerns mirror those of Professor Elizabeth Williamson, whose letter we leaked previously, and Dr Dick Middleton of Schwabe Pharma (a major pharmaceutical producer of standardized herbal extracts). Dr Middleton is instrumental to the SHMC, and circumstantial evidence indicates that Prof Williamson may have been co-opted into the campaign.

The key goal of the SHMC would appear to be to force the competitors of Schwabe and, perhaps those of other herbal license holders, from the market, while professing concern for public safety...

ANH-International argues that it is an overly stringent and inappropriate evaluation methodology used by EFSA that is responsible for this 92% rejection rate. It also argues that to pass the list into law would be legally disproportionate, especially since evaluations of other claims, notably for botanical substances and probiotics, have yet to be completed.

Irish Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Marian Harkin stated: “We all have a problem with cowboys in the food industry who make outlandish claims that are not supported by science – and this is why I, and the majority of other MEPs, supported the Regulation when we voted for it in 2006.”

“But I’m now very concerned about just how few claims have gone through. For many consumers trying to ensure their families eat as healthily as possible, it would be very confusing if these were the only ones allowed. They’ll see the same few claims repeated over and over again on some foods, but so many others will be claim free.”

Ms Harkin added: “It’s difficult to accept that among the thousands of known beneficial food ingredients, nutritional science supports the use of only 70!”

Two Vitamin C Tablets Every Day Could Save 200,000 Lives Every Year

New research has reported that risk of heart failure decreases with increasing blood levels of vitamin C [1]. Persons with the lowest plasma levels of ascorbate had the highest risk of heart failure, and persons with the highest levels of vitamin C had the lowest risk of heart failure.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) there are about 600,000 deaths from heart disease each year. [2] This is an enormous number. The definition of heart failure used by the study authors was on the basis of drugs prescribed, which would include all forms of heart disease that cause death. This agrees well with the CDC definition.

Specifically, the study found that each 20 micromole/liter (μmol/L) increase in plasma vitamin C was associated with a 9% reduction in death from heart failure. That works out to 54,000 fewer deaths from heart failure for each increase in 20 μmol/L plasma vitamin C. If everyone took high enough doses of vitamin C to reach the highest quartile (80 μmol/L), that would work out to approximately 216,000 fewer deaths per year. Just from taking vitamin C.

The world is being pushed towards the unthinkable scenario of untreatable infections, warns a new paper published in the medical journal Lancet, blaming a decline in new drug discoveries and the rising numbers of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

In the EU alone, 25,000 patients die every year from infections caused by drug resistant bacteria.

As well as investment into new antibiotics, there are growing calls for a crackdown on the misuse of existing antibiotics.

The biggest problem is seen as unnecessary use in human medicine but, the excessive use of antibiotics in intensive farming units, particularly pig and poultry farms, is seen as a growing threat.

Scientists say antimicrobial resistance may also be passing between animals and humans, making the need to cut unnecessary use in farming even more urgent. The World Health Organisation says drug use in farm animals plays a 'significant role' in spreading antibiotic-resistant salmonella and campylobacter infections in humans.

A new campaign has been launched by an organization known as the GAVI Alliance to vaccinate up to 2 million women and girls with either GlaxoSmithKline’s Cervarix or Merck’s Gardasil by the year 2015. These two HPV shots have been shown to be very dangerous, with Gardasil linked to death, countless adverse reactions, and Cervarix recently outed as similarly threatening.

The GAVI Alliance, a name relatively unknown to many, is a Geneva-based public-private partnership set up in the year 2000 with financial backing from organizations such as the World Bank, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the vaccine industry, UNICEF, and many other unidentified philanthropists. It is important to note that a public-private partnership is a government and private industry merger or partnership, meaning that these corporate interests can intertwine with big government.

I'll be blunt. Pediatricians, these days, are con-men - only here to push more-and-more dangerous, useless(?), vaccines on an unsuspecting public. They have absolutely no other function. They are, in fact, a whole section of US medicine that we could well do without. It didn't used to be that way - but it is now.

What, if anything, did seem to fit the pattern, besides incipient dementia? I was pretty healthy, except for moderately high cholesterol, for which I took the statin drug Simvastatin. Other than that I went through periods of taking vitamin supplements – that was all.

"Did you say Simvastatin?" asked a friend. "Did you know that statins have been linked to memory loss?"

This was news to me. Statins are, I think, among the greatest successes of modern pharmacology...

If you are taking a statin drug and have symptoms like memory loss, bad circulation, muscle pains ... this article is a thing you should read. AND you should start searching the net about those unwanted effects.

And while you're at it, find out about the basic question: is cholesterol really the enemy as our doctors tell us. As good a place as any to start is Dr. Uffe Ravnskov's site "The Cholesterol Myths"

According to OSHA head David Michael’s excellent book Doubt is Their Product, Merck knew from their pre-release clinical studies that Vioxx had four times the risk of heart attack as the placebo they used (naproxen). They preposterously inverted that finding and spun it around to state that the placebo naproxen reduced heart attack risk by 80%. According to Michaels’ book, ‘scientists at the FDA estimate that Vioxx caused between 88,000 and 139,000 heart attacks, probably 30%-40% of them fatal.’

The midpoint of that range is 40,000. So Merck (with foreknowledge) deliberately killed about 40,000 people that were simply taking a pain reliever drug (most weren’t heart patients). That is almost as many deaths as US combat casualties in the Vietnam war. That must make Merck the biggest corporate mass-murderer in history.

In the latest reason for concern about prescribing antipsychotics for children, a study finds that foster kids are being prescribed combinations of antipsychotics just as frequently as some of the most mentally disabled youngsters on Medicaid.

European Commission approves stevia based sweetener

The European Commission said it gave approval of the natural sweetener for use in the food industry from December 2 on the recommendation of the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA).

'Clandestine' Stevia - all we could find some years ago in a health fair in Italy were little stevia plants - no sweetener.

Stevia rebaudiana, sometimes known as sweatleaf or sugarleaf, is part of the sunflower family. Its steviol glycoside extracts can be far sweeter than sugar, making it attractive for low-carbohydrate, low-sugar foods.

Stevia is widely used in Asia and South America.

Stevia is also a natural substitute for the controversial amino-acid and methanol based artificial sweetener aspartame that was forced onto the market by Donald Rumsfeld three decades ago. Perhaps now, with an alternative sweetener available, aspartame will finally be phased out.

The Life Extension Foundation says: "FDA just issued draconian proposals as to how it intends to regulate what it now calls “new dietary ingredients.” If implemented, some of the most effective nutrients you are taking will be removed from the market. This includes many fish oil formulas and natural plant extracts.

These oppressive rules are exactly what the 1994 law (DSHEA) sought to prevent. The FDA is using its authority in direct violation of congressional intent.

In order for these ingredients you are using today to return to the market, the FDA will require manufacturers to conduct outrageously expensive studies using absurdly high doses, in some situations multiplied by a “safety factor” up to 2,000 times the recommended dosage on a per product basis."

For years, polls have shown that about 90 percent of Americans support the labeling of foods that contain genetically modified organisms (GMO). That's about as close to a consensus as you're going to get in this country. But amazingly, in this supposed bastion of freedom and democracy we're denied the fundamental right to know what's in our food -- a right that more than 50 other nations, including China and Russia, offer their citizens.

In the U.S., it's estimated that 60-70 percent of processed food may contain some GMO, but the food is not required to be labeled.

In 1999, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) petitioned the FDA to stop the common practice of feeding perfectly healthy livestock antibiotics, not to cure disease, but merely to make them pack on weight more efficiently. Of particular concern to the organization were antibiotics used to treat disease in humans. That petition came 22 years after the FDA itself said that such “sub-therapeutic” use of penicillin- and tetracycline-containing products in animals should be halted because it had “not been shown safe.”

A recent study of the effect of B vitamins on a large group of participants reported an inverse relationship between blood serum levels of vitamin B6, methionine, and folate and the risk of lung cancer. High serum levels of vitamin B6, methionine and folate were associated with a 50% or greater reduction in lung cancer risk. This exciting finding has not been widely reported in the media, but it confirms a growing body of evidence gathered over the last 40 years that B vitamins are important for preventing diseases such as cancer.

First do no harm - When will doctors start to nurture their patients?

Medicine is a dangerous thing. In fact it’s likely the most dangerous thing you will encounter in your life. It’s a peculiar thought when it’s meant to be the very thing to help us stay healthy. Our issue is that medicine has forgotten that staying healthy is all about nurturing. And, unsurprisingly, the best way of nurturing is with nature.

A new study shows that so-called “good” cholesterol, HDL, is increased, and so-called “bad” cholesterol, LDL, is decreased by a new, as yet unreleased drug, evacetrapib. To be published this week in theJournal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the study demonstrates that HDL can be more than doubled compared with placebo and LDL decreases up to one-third.

That does, of course sound good. Having higher HDL levels and lower LDL levels are good for us, right?

Not necessarily. The error comes in mistaking markers of cardiovascular health with actual health. It is true that cholesterol levels are markers for cardiovascular health, but they are only part of the story. Most significantly in regard to this study, it has never been shown that artificially raising or lowering cholesterol benefits heart health or improves survival.

But there is a more sinister reason for the “decline” in polio during those years; in 1955, a very creative re-definition of poliovirus infections was invented, to “cover” the fact that many cases of ”polio” paralysis had no poliovirus in their systems at all. While this protected the reputation of the Salk vaccine, it muddied the waters of history in a big way.

Even during the peak epidemics, unifactorial poliovirus infection, resulting in long-term paralysis, was a low-incidence disease that was falsely represented as a rampant and violent crippler by Basil O’Connor’s “March Of Dimes” advertising campaigns. At the same time as Basil O’Connor was pulling in 45 million dollars a year to fund the Salk vaccine development, scientists started to realize that other viruses like Coxsackie, echo and enteroviruses, could also cause polio. They also discussed the fact that lead, arsenic, DDT, and other commonly-used neurotoxins, could identically mimic the lesions of polio.

Included under the umbrella term “Acute Flaccid Paralysis” are Poliomyelitis, Transverse Myelitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, enteroviral encephalopathy, traumatic neuritis, Reye’s syndrome etc.

HIV/AIDS exemplifies scientific illiteracy

HIV was never shown to have caused AIDS.
Nevertheless, during three decades huge arrays of people and organizations have become engaged in a variety of activities based on the mistaken belief that HIV is an infectious immune-system-killing virus that caused and continues to cause AIDS.
That such a mistake could metastasize so massively seems incredible to the conventional wisdom, which regards it as impossible that “science” could go so wrong — after all, this is a scientific age in which all manner of technological marvels are accomplished all the time; and science itself can’t go wrong because it uses the scientific method and is self-correcting.

The conventional wisdom can hardly accept that it’s wrong about HIV/AIDS so long as it doesn’t realize that it’s wrong about science. It needs to be understood that
1. Science is not self-correcting.
2. Science is not done by “the scientific method”.
3. Scientists are not the appropriate experts to explain science to policymakers, the public, or the media. On the whole*, scientists know only the technical intricacies of what they do; they don’t understand the epistemology and sociology of science and they are ignorant of or mistaken about the history of science.

The science relating to HIV and to AIDS has never supported the mainstream assertions. Vested interests determined the course of events: careerism, political exigencies, empire-building in government agencies, financial benefits for companies and individuals. Once an activity commands billions of dollars of annual expenditure, mere scientific findings can exert little if any practical influence.
