Pharma :: Health Supreme

Pharmaceutical medicine is being touted by our health authorities as the only way to "manage illness". Yet, deaths from the known side effects of pharmaceutical drugs and medical errors are one of the leading causes of death in Western countries.

The profit based pharmaceutical model of health is not only extremely expensive - national health systems are going bankrupt all over the place - it is also extremely inefficient in achieving health for us all. In fact we are getting sicker and sicker, while the "disease market" keeps growing by leaps and bounds.

I believe we should do something to change that.

The Bio-Chemical Matrix - The Myths of Matrix Science

by Jon Rappoport www.nomorefakenews.com The medical system kills 225,000 people a year. (Starfield, JAMA, July 26, 2000, "Is US health really the best in the world?") "In principle, gene therapy is a medical miracle waiting to happen ... after 17 years of trying, scientists are still struggling to make gene therapy work. Complications include rejection of DNA carriers ... [and] new genes end up where they shouldn't, or behave unpredictably." ("Gene Therapy: Is Death and Acceptable Risk?", Wired, Brandon Keim, August 30, 2007) MARCH 28, 2012 - In discussing Matrix Science, I'm reminded of Philip Dick's sensational novel, Lies, Inc. It proposes an invention that can teleport humans light-years to a planet where a better way of life exists. The author then spends the rest of the book deconstructing this utopian legend and revealing the truth and the titanic power-grab that sit behind it. Then there is HG Well's 1933 classic novel, The Shape of Things to Come, in which a world exhausted by war and economic collapse turns to a Global State as the only possible solution, after all other solutions have historically failed. This new ruling authority is based on Science. All religions are crushed. Education is designed to teach every child how to become a genius/global citizen. Eventually, the State withers away and is of course replaced by a spontaneous Utopia. Science/technology: the final all-encompassing answer. A significant aspect of Matrix propaganda revolves around myths about how human behavior can be transformed. Transformed through advances in biology and chemistry. Populations are being trained to expect these momentous changes. A major selling point: no effort is required. Just ingest this tablet. Accept this new gene. All will be done for you by experts. Technocrats will design the future so you will fit into it happily. The technocratic wing of Globalism has clout. It promises management of the planet through science, and who can argue with science? Central Planning will ensure proper benefits for all. My late friend and colleague, hypnotherapist Jack True, once told me in an interview:...

Pharmageddon

This is an article by Vera Hassner Sharav of the ALLIANCE FOR HUMAN RESEARCH PROTECTION (AHRP) A Catalyst for Debate about Medicine and Ethics By way of introduction, Sharav cites a recent item in the New York Times about warnings the FDA is now requiring on statin drugs... New York Times news item, Business Section, February 29, 2012: Safety Alerts Cite Cholesterol Drugs’ Side Effects by Gardiner Harris “Federal health officials [ ] added new safety alerts to the prescribing information for statins, the cholesterol-reducing medications that are among the most widely prescribed drugs in the world, citing rare risks of memory loss, diabetes and muscle pain. It is the first time that the Food and Drug Administration has officially linked statin use with cognitive problems like forgetfulness and confusion, although some patients have reported such problems for years. Among the drugs affected are huge sellers like Lipitor, Zocor, Crestor and Vytorin. But federal officials and some medical experts said the new alerts should not scare people away from statins. “The value of statins in preventing heart disease has been clearly established,” said Dr. Amy G. Egan, deputy director for safety in the F.D.A.’s division of metabolism and endocrinology products. “Their benefit is indisputable, but they need to be taken with care and knowledge of their side effects.” Diabetes patients and even those who develop diabetes while taking statins should continue taking the medicines, said Dr. Steven Nissen, chairman of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic who has studied the medicines extensively. “These are not major issues, and they really do not alter the decision-making process with regard to statins,” Dr. Nissen said. Last year, nearly 21 million patients in the United States were prescribed statins.”...

Fear of the Invisible - The Virus that never was

Fear of the Invisible is a book by Janine Roberts that takes a deep look into the world of virus isolation and vaccine manufacture. It appears that isolation of a virus is not a clean-cut business, nor is the evidence that these little fragments of information from our cells' DNA actually do cause disease. Since the data puts the causation of polio, the flu, and even aids into doubt, the advisability of vaccination as a practice to prevent "viral diseases" loses much of its appeal as a public health measure. The book "takes its readers on a journey into the very heart of the hunt for viruses – to the key experiments performed to prove that these invisibly small particles cause diseases that often were previously blamed on toxins or bacteria. It sheds light on the extraordinary assumptions underlying much of this research into viruses – and the resulting vaccines and antiviral medicines." From the book's Introduction The word ‘virus' comes from the Latin for a poisonous liquid, and before that from the Sanskrit for the same. The hunt for them started when, towards the end of the 19th century, it was suggested that invisible living particles much smaller than bacteria might cause the epidemic illnesses for which no bacterial cause could be found. When the electron microscope found tiny particles in the blood serum of patients entering and leaving human cells, this was a Eureka Moment. The prediction was surely about to be proved true. These particles were assumed to be invading and hijacking our cells in order to reproduce. They were thus all condemned as poisons, as ‘viruses.' As more of these were searched for and found in sick people, many illnesses became blamed on them. They became the invisible enemy, the nano-terrorist we must fear. We were instructed that one of our first duties for our newborn children is to vaccinate them against this dreaded foe. Thus was created an ever-growing multibillion-dollar pharmaceutical industry. As an example of what passes for virology, the science of viral illnesses, on which rests the whole edifice of a multi-billion dollar vaccine industry and the 'preventive strategy' of much of western medicine, Martin Barnes has summarized a chapter of the book that details the scientific history of polio. You may be amazed at some of the mind boggling blunders that are at the basis of the 'science' of vaccines. But to get the full story, do buy the book and if you are able to, spread the word. We need honesty in medicine!...

JUPITER Cholesterol Drug Trial: Marketing Tactics Threaten Public Health and Wealth

There is a climate of elation in the world of pharma: A recent study seems to suggest that cholesterol lowering medication should perhaps be given to everyone, regardless of their level of cholesterol, to prevent future heart attacks. This is big money. At present, sales of cholesterol lowering medications are worth tens of billions of dollars, on a much more limited set of prescribing guidelines. Yet, there are huge numbers of people suffering from the side effects of statins, which include severe muscle pains, cognitive trouble and even Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease. Vera Hassner Sharav of the Alliance for Human Research Protection discusses the JUPITER study and its implications for our health in an article that looks at the study's limitations and inherent conflicts of interest, as well as the financial aspects of medicating healthy people to lower cholesterol....

Strattera adverse effects: UK Medicines Agency refuses to act

Janne Larsson, an investigator and reporter in Sweden, has obtained information about adverse event reports on Eli Lilly's ADHD drug Strattera, using the Swedish freedom of information laws. The data, coming from both the FDA's adverse reaction database and from reports to the UK's Medicines agency, shows numerous adverse effects and scores of deaths by suicide. Yet the agency, even after repeated prodding by Larsson to initiate action, has refused to budge or even acknowledge that there is a problem. MHRA apparently accepts the drug's producer Eli Lilly's data rather than its own and the FDA's adverse event reports. Image credit: Monheit Law - Contact a Lawyer familiar with Strattera lawsuits Larsson says: An investigation of MHRA’s handling of the harmful effects of the ADHD drug Strattera has proven the following: MHRA has ignored data about instances of death among children in connection with Strattera treatment. At least 41 children have died. The agency has not investigated the reported cases and does not even have a compiled summary of cases with fatal outcome. Further the agency has allowed the manufacturer Eli Lilly to give false information about the number of fatal cases and has taken no action against the company once the false information was revealed. MHRA has for almost three years been in possession of data proving that Strattera can cause agitation, mania and psychotic reactions with hallucinations among children. Yet no warning has been issued to doctors and parents. The agency has withheld these disastrous consequences despite clear evidence. Due to bureaucratic procedures no warnings have been issued even if Eli Lilly reluctanly conceded to include these harmful reactions in its information to the public almost a year ago. MHRA has for almost three years been in possession of data showing that Strattera in many cases actually can cause or worsen the “condition” it is claimed to alleviate. More than 700 reports were submitted to the manufacturer, Eli Lilly, about Strattera inducing “psychomotor hyperactivity”. Lilly called this an exacerbation of the “underlying ADHD”. If we would apply this to the area of real medicine and to diabetes we could say that the patient got a diabetes medication with resulting heavy increase in blood sugar level. Such a medication would probably be withdrawn very fast from the market. But the MHRA has not yet, after three years, succeeded to get even a bad quality review of these cases done – not even from the manufacturer. The background data for these conclusions can be found in the following text and in the linked documents. When reading the data below please remember the promise from the MHRA: “…we take any necessary action to protect the public promptly if there is a problem.” MHRA, About us [1] Note that the linked documents (within letters described below) in most cases could not be obtained in UK where the issuance of them would be deemed as prejudicing “the ability of the Assessory body to offer impartial advice” and where the MHRA wants “to allow marketing authorisation holders the chance to respond to regulatory action and make commercial decisions before data are in the public domain.” (MHRA, e-mail about FOIA-request, 29th September, 2006). However the documents could be obtained in Sweden, even if the MHRA has tried to stop the issuance of them by implying that publication could threaten the relations between Sweden and UK....

Vaccines: To Heal or Not to Heal

Vaccinations are touted as the public health preventive measure of choice - the must-do in preventive medicine. There is little or no surveillance once a vaccine has hit the market, particularly for the vaccines that were introduced decades ago. And there is reason to believe that much of the touted success of vaccines is due to tricking the statistics and to independent external factors such as better hygiene. Dangerous vaccines - Image: Sitfu Yet, with all that preventive fervor, our health keeps deteriorating. Autism is on the rise, so are cancer and heart disease and a number of other illnesses that should, if we logically look at it, be possible to prevent. While there is much evidence that nutrients are needed for prevention of illness, the emphasis of pharmaceutically controlled medicine and public health authorities remains firmly fixed on toxic pharmaceuticals, both in prevention and cure. The trend is rising. Having saturated the "markets" of the industrialized nations, a great push is on to extend the saving grace of our brand of medicine to developing countries. Vaccine victim and health campaigner Jagannath Chatterjee describes what is happening in India, how in a rather mindless way the "preventive" procedures of Western medicine are being put into effect there. His description is quite representative for what is happening in a number of developing countries, and he asks some pertinent questions....

The Cholesterol Scare - Are You A Victim?

"Your cholesterol has a tendency to be high - you better take this medication to prevent a future heart attack. Don't worry about side effects, there are a few but they're very rare." Who hasn't heard their doctor say something like this before? And who hasn't then started to take these drugs, exactly like the doctor told them? According to a recent article in Forbes - The World's Ten Best-Selling Drugs: "Pfizer's cholesterol pill Lipitor remains the best-selling drug in the world for the fifth year in a row. Its annual sales were $12.9 billion, more than twice as much as its closest competitors." So looking at the sales figures, it seems that lots of people are believing their doctors and have dutifully started their statin drug regime. "Every year, millions of people fall victim to the very deceptive, highly profitable cholesterol scam" says David Tanton, PhD, and he adds that if you are one of those people, "It’s time to take action: Get off them immediately, before they do any more damage." Dr. Tanton graduated from Clayton College of Natural Healing with a Ph.D. in Holistic Nutrition, and is the research director of the Soaring Heights Longevity Research Center. In his article The Cholesterol Scare: Are You One Of Millions Of Victims? (PDF) Tanton tells why it isn't a good idea to follow the "lower your cholesterol" craze. He details the many important functions especially the LDL (low density lipid) fraction of cholesterol has in keeping us healthy, and how interfering with its production or absorption can seriously put things out of whack in a human body. "LDL cholesterol plays many critical roles in both the body and brain. It forms the very basis of our hormones, and vitamin D, which provides many benefits. The majority of cholesterol is found in the brain, where it serves as an insulator for neurons. Cholesterol even removes toxins from the blood stream, preventing potential damage to the arteries. Cholesterol is part of every cell wall, and plays a critical role in sealing and stabilizing damaged or weakened arteries." He does not recommend to use drugs to lower cholesterol. "When our LDL is excessively elevated, it’s an indicator that we need to address the underlying problem that our cholesterol is attempting to deal with – not take a cholesterol- lowering medication. The most likely contributors to elevated LDL are: low vitamin C, toxins, low thyroid, elevated homocysteine (the rogue amino acid that damages the arteries, and oxidizes cholesterol), and even stress, as the body actually uses LDL to produce stress hormones!" Dr. Tanton's article also touches on what happens when cholesterol is driven too low. Instead of protecting from heart attack, a recent study showed that a combination of two cholesterol lowering drugs actually resulted in the plaque growing nearly twice as fast as it did in those who only took one drug. The question is, according to Tanton, why is the FDA just looking on, and even condoning recommendations for kids to be cholesterol checked and eventually prescribed statins. Follow the money All I can say is - follow the money. Doctors are known to have been getting kickbacks for prescriptions, pharmaceutical companies stand to make TONS of money, and many of the the underpaid people in government health ministries are often invited on weekend outings and all-paid conferences by pharma's representatives. Who would want to abandon such lucrative business and such great opportunities to be friends? If you are taking a statin drug or know someone who is, or if your doctor is pushing you to start, please read Dr. Tanton's article first. Also, look at another article on this site and pay special attention to the readers' comments describing the side effects people experienced when taking Lipitor and other cholesterol lowering drugs. Those are real life, first-person accounts of human tragedy and ruined lives. Tanton: The Cholesterol Scare: Are You One Of Millions Of Victims? Lipitor: Side Effects And Natural Remedy...

Vitamin A and D - Synergy and Balance

There has been an unusual spate of studies in recent times about Vitamin D and the protective effects it is said to have against various illnesses. I have linked those articles in newsgrabs, and published one or two of them myself. Here is a selection of some of this year's articles: Boning up on the sunshine vitamin Get some sun: Risk of Dying Linked to Low Vitamin D Lack of vitamin D rampant in infants, teens Adults still risk vitamin D deficiency Study links vitamin D to colon cancer survival Get a Little Sun This Summer – It Could Help Save Your Life Vitamin D: New way to treat heart failure? Study links vitamin D, type 1 diabetes Low blood levels of vitamin D linked to depression Vitamin D linked to reduced mortality rate in kidney disease Vitamin D necessary for proper brain function Vitamin D 'cuts risk of diabetes' Low vitamin D heart health risk In a general environment where vitamins and other nutrients are denigrated because they don't fit the pharmaceutical profit model, this series of good news is certainly an oddity. Reading those articles, it would seem there isn't an illness that vitamin D cannot be usefully influencing, preventing or curing. While I am not saying vitamin D isn't a very useful nutrient, the question is why is someone promoting vitamin D in the teeth of a generally very anti-vitamin climate, and without a mention of its synergistic twin, vitamin A? There is even a dedicated organism, the Vitamin D Council, set up to promote the use of vitamin D. They cite a veritable epidemic of vitamin D deficiency and urge people to supplement: Current research has implicated vitamin D deficiency as a major factor in the pathology of at least 17 varieties of cancer as well as heart disease, stroke, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, depression, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, muscle wasting, birth defects, periodontal disease, and more. Vitamin D's influence on key biological functions vital to one's health and well-being mandates that vitamin D no longer be ignored by the health care industry nor by individuals striving to achieve and maintain a greater state of health. If one regularly avoids sunlight exposure, research indicates a necessity to supplement with at least 5,000 units (IU) of vitamin D daily. Could a synthetic (patentable) version of vitamin D be on its way to market? Has a pharmaceutical conglomerate decided it is time to get into the nutrients business? Maybe, but a recent article points in a different direction. Vitamin D's wild days: Who to test, what to take? Vitamin D and calcium go hand in hand. You need a lifetime of both to build strong bones. We get D in three ways: sun exposure, dietary supplements or certain foods, particularly D-fortified milk, orange juice and cereals. Fortified milk, orange juice and cereals ... hmmm - could there be an interest of big food industry in all those recent vitamin D studies to sell vitamin-D fortified wares? Personally, I prefer some sun once in a while and perhaps some D in supplements. However, we should also take note of a contrary voice in all this promotional hysteria which was highlighted in a recent comment on this and also on a later post on this site. The commenter links this paper - Vitamin D: the alternative hypothesis - which explains that the deficiency/disease hypothesis may be too simplistic in the case of vitamin D. The authors warn that in the long term, vitamin D supplementation may be damaging, although in the short term, its anti-inflammatory action will suppress symptoms of disease. Sally Fallon of the Weston A. Price Foundation says that vitamin D is best taken together with vitamin A, and that one of the best sources of this combination is ... cod liver oil. She believes (and looking at all these articles, one cannot but agree) that vitamin D is being promoted while its companion vitamin gets the rap. "Cod liver oil is a food; it can't be patented, it can't be created in a laboratory; it can't create millions for the drug companies." See what she has to say......

Seizure inducing aspartame added to anti-seizure drugs

The Pacific Epilepsy Society in affiliation with the Epileptic Foundation of Maui has completed a seven year study on Epilepsy and Seizures, finding that epilepsy is at an all time high in Hawaii and the western states and Pacific Ocean Territories. There has been a100% increase over the two previous years. Dr Glenn Mabson of the Epileptic Foundation of Maui believes the reason for the increase is a change in formulation of several of the major anti-seizure drugs: "The most profound reason for the spectacular increase in seizures is the inclusion of the drug ASPARTAME in with the new larger sized anti-seizure drugs: DILANTIN, DEPACOTE, TEGRATOL and several others produced by major pharmaceutical corporations. In 2007 the manufacturer of Dilantin changed the description of the 100 mg. Dilantin, changed the 100 mg white capsule with red stripe to a much larger white capsule, orange on one end, which contains 100 mg of the drug, plus aspartame. 150 people who took the new Dilantin capsule found the seizure rate increased in every case. The Chemical Pharmaceutical Engineer employee, in fear of his job would not reveal his name, but said they were adding aspartame." Dr. Allen Stein, Neurosurgeon, President of the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii (a separate organization from the above) is sympathetic to the makers of ASPARTAME and routinely prescribes these drugs. I believe this contributes to the increase of epilepsy in these areas." Glenn Mabson, PhD., CEO - Epileptic Foundation of Maui Aspartame Disease - An ignored epidemic What is aspartame - known to induce seizures - doing in a capsule of anti-seizure medicine? It can't be there for its sweet taste, because capsules are swallowed whole. Could someone be drumming up business for more medication by adding stuff that causes people to need more? Betty Martini of Mission Possible, the international anti-aspartame campaign group, has interviewed Dr Mabson:...

Cholesterol Drugs for Kids? Pharma - Quo Vadis

The New York Times reports that the American Academy of Pediatrics has issued new guidelines this week, to "aggressively screen and medicate for high cholesterol in children". Dr. Jatinder Bhatia, a member of the academy’s nutrition committee is quoted as saying: "We are in an epidemic". He also said that "The risk of giving statins at a lower age is less than the benefit you’re going to get out of it." Bhatia added that the drugs were "generally safe for children", although he admitted that there was not "a whole lot" of data on pediatric use of cholesterol-lowering drugs. I suppose that "not a whole lot of data" means he could not find a study specifically testing statin drugs on children. Show me the evidence - image credit: Alliance for Human Research Protection The piece on the New York Times blog can be found here: Cholesterol Drugs for Kids With the Academy of Pediatrics showing so much zeal for foisting a dangerous and at the same time rather useless kind of drugs on children, one would suspect that scientific honesty has been overridden by a more powerful motivation. Indeed, it seems that the academy is well financed by pharmaceutical interests. Integrity in Science writes about the academy's funding: “Friends of Children Fund” Annual Report, July 1, 1996 - June 30, 1997, indicates $2.085 million in funding from corporations. Donors include Procter & Gamble, Gerber, Infant Formula Council, McNeil Consumer Products Company, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products, Abbott Laboratories, Wyeth-Lederle Vaccine & Pediatrics, Mead Johnson Nutritionals, SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals, Schering Corp., Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Food Marketing Institute, Sugar Association, International Food Information Council, Merck Vaccine Division, and others. Formula manufacturers “donate $1 million annually to the American Academy of Pediatrics in the form of a renewable grant that has already netted the AAP $8 million. The formula industry also contributed at least $3 million toward the building costs of the AAP headquarters.” (Mothering magazine, July-August, p.60; refers to a book Milk, Money and Madness by Naomi Baumslag and Dia L. Michels (Westport, Conn.: Bergin and Garvey, 1995, p. 172)) According to a New York Times article, the Ross Products Unit of Abbott Laboratories, the maker of Similac infant formula, purchased 300,000 copies of the AAP’s “New Mother’s Guide to Breastfeeding” with Ross’ logo and name on them. In addition, “Ross, McNeil and Johnson & Johnson were the top three corporate supporters of the academy’s $65 million operating budget...each giving $500,000 or more.” (New York Times, 9/18/02, C1) Side effects of cholesterol lowering drugs are numerous and serious. But then - what is a bit of pain or loss of memory when there's so much money to be made? "Dammit. This is the last straw," comments Vince Boehm, as he says: "They are pushing cholesterol-lowering drugs for children." Vince has some pertinent comments that underline how perfectly useless those drugs are for anyone - let alone children - and how even the FDA says there are serious side effects to be expected....
