www.kushistore.comAn encyclopedia to over 200 conditions and disorders, "The Macrobiotic Path" is organized like the authors' previous books, "The Cancer Prevention Diet" and "Diet for a Strong Heart." It includes dietary recommendations for many new conditions and disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, ALS, Gulf War Syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, TMJ, and many new digestive, nervous, muscle, bone, and endocrine disorders.
The book reflects evolving practice and recent counseling changes within the macrobiotic community. For example, the cancer guidelines and have been revised in light of Michio's experience in recent years. For example, there are several types of breast cancer that are now approached differently. Michio also discovered that while most cases of leukemia and lymphoma are caused by extreme yin, there is a yang form caused by excessive salt and baked food. Also, testicular cancer has been reclassified as primarily yin. Though small and compact, the testicles are externally located and are sensitive to extreme yin. In contrast, the prostate, which is deep within, is very yang.
There are also many new recipes prepared by Christine Akbar, Michio's associate, and Gale Jack, Alex's wife, including scores of special dishes, drinks, and external applications that have been introduced recently at Michio's Level 4 Seminars in Becket and in private counseling. Their are scores of new home remedies, include a dozen varieties of rice porridge, a dozen dried daikon teas, and new drinks for the heart, lungs, liver, large intestine, and other major organs. One of the most practical sections explains the five different types of foot baths and their yin/yang applications.
In the future, the authors hope to bring out a comprehensive companion volume on family health, including guidelines for pregnancy and other women's conditions as well as children.
