This supports importance of bacteria and eating raw food.

Study: Bacterial toxins inhibits growth of malignant cells

Montezuma’s Revenge, travelers' trot or simply a nuisance, diarrhea protects people against colon cancer, researchers reported Monday.

The study, published in this week’s issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, focused on one of many bacteria that can cause diarrhea.

The toxin produced by the bacteria Escherichia coli or E. coli interacts with cells in a way that prevents them from becoming cancerous, the researchers said.

Giovanni Pitari and colleagues at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia started their research after noting that, “Over half a million patients suffer from colorectal cancer in industrialized nations, yet this disease exhibits a low incidence in underdeveloped countries.”

They compared the incidence of “travelers' diarrhea” against that of colon cancer, and showed that in countries where “Delhi belly” is most common, including the Indian subcontinent, Africa and Mexico, colon cancer was uncommon.
Colon cancer is highest in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and western Europe where travelers' diarrhea is almost nonexistent

Toxin prevented cell growth Pitari’s team observed E.coli-produced toxins. They adding them to a dish full of dividing cancerous cells. The rapidly dividing cancerous cells slowed their reproductive pace to a crawl. The research team observed that the toxins naturally limit the growth of colon cancerous cells.

The finding helps explain why colon cancer is a disease of developed countries and why diarrhea should be a welcomed detoxification, preventing cancer. Other approaches are known to help prevent colon cancer, including diets rich in raw foods, quitting smoking and exercising.

Smoking often damages cellular DNA, helping them become cancerous. Eating raw food helps prevent damage to DNA.

Here is a commentary on the recent (Jan, 25th, 2011) Public Participation Meeting (PPM) on Fluoride in the City of London, Ontario. His lack of knowledge on chemistry of the toxic wastes used to fluoridate water could embarrass even a high school student never mind his own profession. He blatantly violated his "duty to public welfare" as... [read more]
