HAZARDS OF THE FLU VACCINE
While this was written in 2000 it is every bit applicable today. Please take action as appropriate. One can also send a note to all MP's via this action link as well.
The admission of guilt by the government could not be any stronger when they start to create laws protecting the guilty parties who are clearly in the wrong...See: Health law may protect Ottawa
Ontario is offering "free" flu vaccine. There is usually no free lunch. Here is my letter to Mike Harris, Premier of Ontario. It explains the real costs.
I urge you to contact him to support my position. If you have time, I would also encourage you to contact your elected representative. (In Ontario, phone 416.326.1234 to get contact information). If you would like to send your message to all 103 Ontario MPP's, I can send you a file containing their names, fax numbers and email addresses.
If you don't live in Ontario, I don't recommend moving here to get the free vaccine. It is a beautiful province, but the cities are polluted and congested. Road rage is rampant. Seven people died in Walkerton from drinking the tap water. November 15, 2000
Hon. Mike Harris

Dear Mr. Harris,
RE: HAZARDS OF THE FLU VACCINE
I would like to thank you for informing us of recent events with your colorful Fall 2000 Report to Ontario Taxpayers.
However, as a concerned citizen, I am wondering about your story, Why You Should Get Your Free Flu Shot and your television/newspaper ads that promote the free shots.
You mention the mild side effects of a sore arm, fever and muscle aches but I am wondering why you did not mention the more serious ones? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other standard medical sources, flu vaccine side effects can include allergic reactions, Guillain-Barre syndrome (you mention that if people have this condition they should consult their doctor but you do not say it is a side effect), severe paralytic illness and death. Do people have a right to be informed or warned about these?
When large numbers of Ontarians take the free vaccine, it will be inevitable that some will unfortunately develop serious side effects. Is this what they call standard medicine tell patients as little as possible about drugs and when they suffer side effects say, Youre one in a million?
As an astute politician, I am sure you are aware of the people who have taken legal action because they claimed they were not aware of the hazards of cigarette smoke. Is there some reason why you have failed to learn from this?
Investigative news programs often document people who have suffered the side effects from routine immunization. While the percentage is small, it is little comfort to victims that many others escaped. I assume you would want to avoid legal action from people who suffered serious side effects as a result not being informed? Can your government survive another scandal like Walkerton?
Do you feel you have fairly given all the facts so that people can make an informed decision on whether to take the flu vaccine? Is this adequate disclosure? Do you believe that citizens should know the advantages, disadvantages and alternatives to any proposed medical intervention so they can have freedom of choice? Is there some reason why you have not mentioned alternatives (crystalline vitamin C, Echinacea, cod liver oil etc.) to the flu vaccine? How many more dangerous drugs like phenylpropanolamine (PPA) have to be recalled until you realize the advantages of alternative medicine?
Is this your idea of preventive medicine? If so, is this a good example? Are you afraid that if people knew the whole story, they would be less likely to take your free gift?
Do you want people to feel like they are getting something for nothing? Who is actually benefiting from this free program? How much will this free campaign cost us? What political contributions have the manufacturers of the vaccine made?
There are a number of parents who have refused to have their children vaccinated because they believe the risk of harm outweighs the benefits. A recent television news special outlined how parents suspect there is a link between infantile autism and the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine. They feel there has been a lack of disclosure, lack of compensation for vaccine related injuries and inadequate adverse event reporting. Do you support these parents?
I can appreciate the difficulty of your being knowledgeable in this area. I would therefore appreciate knowing the names of your medical advisors. Do you feel you have developed an over reliance on medical doctors?
I know that, as an elected representative, you are concerned about this situation. I am confident you will correct it.

At 02:16 PM 29/05/2007, you wrote: Why do you lump all vaccines together as a category that is dangerous rather than treating them as individual cases? Is that a good way to find out if vaccines are dangerous in your opinion? Also, why would you trust eyewitness accounts rather than treat them with a well needed grain of salt?
