Vitamin C is the original HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor

I've not only read Alice in Wonderland, I've been there...

The hot selling statins, such as Lipitor® and Zocor®, lower cholesterol by blocking the coenzyme HMG-CoA reductase. The first statin drugs were released to the U.S. in 1987, and the manufacturing and promotion of these drugs has grown into a huge business; statins are the most widely prescribed class of drugs in history.

In the 1960s, research began of the mechanisms on which animals and humans rely for the synthesis of cholesterol, the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. After years of study, in 1985, scientists made the important discovery that ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is the human body's natural HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor.[*]  When vitamin C levels are low, the body compensates and manufactures more cholesterol; when vitamin levels are high, vitamin C inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, lowering cholesterol -- naturally.

The problem with the artificial statin drugs has been identified. These drugs concurrently reduce circulating levels of ubiquinone, aka coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) [*] and raise levels of the lipid Lp(a) [*] . A decline in CoQ10 -- attributed to artificial statins -- has been linked to muscle pain, muscle myopathy and congestive heart failure; [*] elevated Lp(a) is linked to the 70 percent higher probability of heart attack or stroke [*].

Vitamin C at the proper dosage (6000 mg or higher), lowers Lp(a) and promotes the natural production of CoQ10.

Vitamin C is Nature's Perfect Statin.

Supplement Facts

Linus Pauling informed the world that vitamin C deficiency is the root cause of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and that taking more of the vitamin lowers cholesterol, and that when combined with lysine, effects the cure for CVD.

Yet, rather than promote vitamin C, drug companies invented statin drugs. While it's true that vitamin C is the top selling nutritional supplement, earning its makers roughly $180 million per year, the statin drugs are sold to 25 million people worldwide, earning more than $20,000 million dollars (20 billion) annually.

One wonders, what did the drug companies know, and when did they know it? Was vitamin C used as the model for the statin drugs, and they simply forgot to mention it?

It just gets curiouser and curiouser...

Here is a commentary on the recent (Jan, 25th, 2011) Public Participation Meeting (PPM) on Fluoride in the City of London, Ontario. His lack of knowledge on chemistry of the toxic wastes used to fluoridate water could embarrass even a high school student never mind his own profession. He blatantly violated his "duty to public welfare" as... [read more]

Iwas taking lipitor and in Sept./2012 I started having problems with my right leg(quad muscle).By Aug./2013 I was almost a cripple when someone told me about lipitor problems his wife had.I immediately stopped taking lipitor. It is now Mar./2014 and I think my leg is very slowly healing with a lot of excercise. What would be a good dose of CoQ10 to be taking and do you think it will help?

Response:

About 400mg/day with a little coconut oil or organic dairy butter should help. See also:
