How To Ingest B12 Orally

Thanks Eddie,

This is certainly good news and blows the myth that B12 is useless orally. It is also a good follow up the earlier posts:

Vitamin B12, Drinking Water Fluoridation, and Alzheimer's Dementia (AD)

Vegetarian source of vitamin B12

Your cogent comment on wiping out disease, highlighted below, is yet again another demonstration, on what nutrients can do that no drugs can ever do let alone match.

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) deficiency in elderly patients
(full pdf download)

Abstract

VITAMIN B12 OR COBALAMIN DEFICIENCY occurs frequently (> 20%) among elderly people, but it is often unrecognized because the clinical manifestations are subtle; they are also potentially serious, particularly from a neuropsychiatric and hematological perspective. Causes of the deficiency include, most frequently, food-cobalamin malabsorption syndrome (> 60% of all cases), pernicious anemia (15%–20% of all cases), insufficient dietary intake and malabsorption. Food-cobalamin malabsorption, which has only recently been identified as a significant cause of cobalamin deficiency among elderly people, is characterized by the inability to release cobalamin from food or a deficiency of intestinal cobalamin transport proteins or both. We review the epidemiology and causes of cobalamin deficiency in elderly people, with an emphasis on food-cobalamin malabsorption syndrome. We also review diagnostic and management strategies for cobalamin deficiency.

Hi Herbert and [if your forward it, fellow sceptics]. That was a truly well done article in my "home" medical journal with some spiffy graphics that explain the B12 issue rather clearly [reduced B12 levels in older people from reduced food intake, reduced stomach acid, effects from drugs, pernicious anemia (destruction gastric mucosa), and H. Pylori].

Then there is the solution to eliminate deficient B12 intake we all have: the process of passive diffusion through gut to get the ~2 mcg/d we need [1-5% of crystalline B12], i.e. taking a multivitamin like we have in N. America with 100 mcg B12, that passive diffusion should get you eventually to adequate storage of B12, without injections or lab tests.

There is NO toxicity to any amount of B12 and it's cheap: My current multi: Daily One Without Iron

Here's an analogy how to wipe out one disease [3200 deaths/year and 1/3rd mental hospital patients ~70 years ago in the U.S.], remember!

Lena (Mcfeliciello@yahoo.co.uk) has sent this article to you from Canadian Medical Association Journal:

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) deficiency in elderly patients

Thought this might interest you, the overall population prevalence is suspected to be greater than expressed for this sub-section if one take undiagnosed Coeliac disease or H.Pylori into account etc etc

Here is a commentary on the recent (Jan, 25th, 2011) Public Participation Meeting (PPM) on Fluoride in the City of London, Ontario.
