Just about any fibre will reduce cholesterol although some are better than others. However, some develop hemorrhoids with excessive use I know that sounds contrary but in the early days when I too was brainwashed about lowering cholesterol it happened to me and the hemorrhoids went away when fibre was reduced but then it did not help much. I have had very high cholesterol for years in fact they chose people like me for a life long study and I get checked via ultra sound every year and there still is no stenosis (blocking). I don't bother with cholesterol but do check my homocysteine levels (very important) they are generally below 9. And you don't need drugs to reduce it, hence the lack of interest.... In the main cholesterol is protective especially for cancer and it may well be binding to damaging heavy metals and other environmental insults see comments below. Reducing it villy nilly and at any cost is a mistake as there may well be good reason why the body is making it.
