Omega 3 Deficiency Causes Thousands of Deaths - NewsGrabs Sunday, 19 July 2009
Omega-3 deficiency causes 96,000 US deaths per year, say researchers
Omega-3 deficiency is the sixth biggest killer of Americans and more deadly than excess trans fat intake, according to a new study.
The study, jointly funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through the Association of Schools of Public Health, drew on 2005 data from the US National Health Center for Health Statistics. They determined that there were 72,000-96,000 preventable deaths each year due to omega-3 deficiency, compared to 63,000-97,000 for high trans fat intake.
Vitamin D, magnesium, other nutrients may influence cardiovascular disease risk
Vitamin D, magnesium, and other nutrients may influence the risk and progression of cardiovascular disease, says a report.
"The prospect that macro- and micronutrients may play an important role in the appearance of diseases of the cardiovasculature and their progressive nature is both intriguing and provocative," according to the article's preface by Dr. Karl T. Weber.
Despite the tantalizing new evidence, "The role of nutrition in the causation, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases is largely unexplored," Dr. Weber concludes.
"Investigator-initiated, hypothesis-driven research conducted in a mode of discovery by a multidisciplinary team of basic and clinical scientists will undoubtedly open new frontiers and pave the way by identifying simple remedies that could advance the practice of medicine," Dr. Weber writes.
Flavanoids found in fruit and veg offer dementia hope
A group of chemicals found in many fruits and vegetables, as well as tea, cocoa and red wine, could protect the brain from Alzheimer’s disease, a dementia expert will tell scientists at a conference at the British Pharmacological Society’s Summer Meeting in Edinburgh. Dr Robert Williams will argue that, while much more research needs to be done, there is mounting evidence that certain flavonoids - chemicals found in plants and food derived from plants - might provide therapeutic benefit for Alzheimer’s sufferers.
“There have been some intriguing epidemiological studies that the consumption of flavonoid-rich vegetables, fruit juices and red wine delays the onset of the disease,” says Dr Williams, a Biochemist working at Kings College London.
UK Food Standards Agency representative accused of abusing legal process on novel foods
But Dr Jones, called as an expert witness for the prosecution, had failed to disclose that he was also a member of the European Commission’s Working Group on novel foods. In this capacity he was able to apply his influence to alter the status given to particular foods or food ingredients. During cross-examination, it emerged that just a few days before the trial occurred, Dr Jones had persuaded his colleagues to alter the classification given in the Novel Foods Catalogue. The new status categorises Festuca arundinaceum unequivocally as a ‘novel food’. It became apparent during the cross-examination that the motive to push through this change was to assist the prosecution’s case.
Scientific fraud in medicine
One area of particular concern is clinical trials involving vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. There are specific problems in the use of low doses and synthetic forms of nutrients. Studying unsuitable supplements adds to the potential for direct fraud and the manipulation of data. For decades, clinical trials have avoided addressing the large doses and natural types of supplements previously found to be beneficial in small clinical studies and observations.
Roundup Disrupts Sex Hormones
At very low levels, for instance 800 times less than Roundup residues authorized in some GMOs for feed in United States, this kind of herbicide for a formulation sold in drugstores prevents the action of androgens, the masculinizing hormones. Then the action and formation of estrogens are also disrupted. The DNA damages in human cells begin around this level. These effects explain disturbing results of animal experiments and in human epidemiology.
Scientists Warn of Hazards of GMOs
A study conducted by eight international researchers calls into question the reliability of tests of the European Food Safety (EFSA) and the US FDA to assess the health risks of GMOs and pesticides.
"Agricultural GM companies and evaluation committees systematically overlook the side effects of GMOs and pesticides. This is clearly illustrated by the EFSA and the US FDA, which evaluated the controversial GM maize varieties MON 863 and MON 810," said CRIIGEN.
Diabetes and Electromagnetic Fields Connected
Dr Magda Havas, professor of environmental sciences in Canada, has directed several studies that have not only shown a connection between the increase in diabetes and EMF exposure, but also the effectiveness of filters on ELF electrical equipment that helps to reduce the suffering and the symptoms of diabetics.
Fluoride/Cancer Link is Plausible
The Environmental Protection Agency's Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) for fluoride is too high to be protective of health (4 mg/L) and must be lowered. EPA scientists have been saying this since 1986; but EPA management caved to political pressure and over-ruled its scientists.
Monsanto Man in Senior FDA Role
The FDA announced that Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto executive, has joined the agency as "senior advisor to the commissioner." If the title is vague, the portfolio is substantial-a kind of food czar of the Food and Drug Administration.
Mr. Taylor is a lawyer who began his revolving door adventures as counsel to FDA. He then moved to King & Spalding, a private-sector law firm representing Monsanto, a leading agricultural biotechnology company. In 1991 he returned to the FDA as Deputy Commissioner for Policy, where he was part of the team that issued the agency's decidedly industry-friendly policy on food biotechnology and that approved the use of Monsanto's genetically engineered growth hormone in dairy cows.
Statins Damage Muscles In Over Half The People Taking Them
Over half of individuals taking statins complain of muscle aches and pains. A new study demonstrates that 56% of those with these symptoms have injured muscle fibers based on muscle biopsy.
The statin propaganda machine likes to claim that severe muscle problems are only 1% - 2%. While that may or may not be true, the issue of actual physical damage to muscles is far higher.
Legally addicted: Michael Jackson is not alone
In a surprising expose of the medical profession’s dirty laundry, it is pointed out in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings that anesthesiologists as a group are the kingpins in the drug abuse world of prescription medication. Although they account for only 5% of physicians, they “constitute 13% to 15% of populations receiving treatment for chemical dependency in centers specializing in the treatment of physicians and in programs that monitor such physicians after treatment.”
Psychiatrist Criticizes Mother's Act
"The problem with this is the attitude that being a mother is a risk factor for a psychiatric disorder. First of all, there is no evidence that women without a prior history of anxiety and depression have any increased risk of getting post partum depression. So to screen all moms as if giving birth is a risk factor for depression is ridiculous."
New Study Proves Thimerosal Induces Autism-like Neurotoxicity
Thimerosal-induced cellular damage as evidenced by concentration- and time-dependent mitochondrial damage, reduced oxidative-reduction activity, cellular degeneration, and cell death in the in vitro human neuronal and fetal model systems studied. Thimerosal at low nanomolar (nM) concentrations induced significant cellular toxicity in human neuronal and fetal cells. Thimerosal-induced cytoxicity is similar to that observed in AD pathophysiologic studies. Thimerosal was found to be significantly more toxic than the other metal compounds examined.
Official Italian data: no causal connection between HIV and AIDS
“Our work is based on epidemiological data from the Italian Ministry of Health and the
Institute of Health”, says Ruggiero. These reveal a disconnect between infection by the
retrovirus (HIV) and the syndrome defined as AIDS. In fact, the statistics recorded by
the Ministry of Health show that AIDS may be diagnosed in the absence of signs of
infection by HIV; but if a disease can exist in the absence of a particular agent, then
that agent is hardly the disease’s cause.
Ruggiero adds that data from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Institute of Health) also show that more than one quarter of the cases of neonatal AIDS are not attributable to vertical (i.e. mother-to-child) transmission of the putatively causal virus.
Mandatory Swine Flu Vaccine Alert
There's no pandemic nor until recently a single death anywhere attributable to Swine Flu. Yet WHO said the virus "is considered unstoppable," while admitting little evidence of spread so far, most cases are mild, and many people recover unaided. Nonetheless, all countries will need vaccines and should follow these priorities...
Mandatory Swine Flu Vaccine Risks
According to the CDC, approximately 36,000 people die each year in the U.S. from the regular flu. That averages to about 100 people a day. The total number of confirmed mortalities in the U.S. from the swine flu since the virus was identified in March is less than 200, less than the number of people who die in two days from the regular flu. Yet don't be surprised if you soon start to see propaganda for mandatory vaccination, starting with our children. Mandatory vaccines bring billions of dollars to big pharma and more control for politicians.
Students and children 1st in Line For WHO H1N1 jab in the USA
According to a report in the Washington Post, 10 July, students are to be the first in line for the jab along with school-age children.
Swine flu vaccine to be cleared after five-day trial
Dr Peter Holden, the British Medical Association’s lead negotiator on swine flu said although swine flu was not causing serious illness in patients, health officials were eager to start a mass vaccination campaign...It seems we just abandoned the practice of clinical trials to precede approval of a vaccine, even though admittedly, the disease is not serious.
Are you ready to be vaccinated for swine flu?
Do you feel you have enough information to make an informed choice when the time comes for you and your loved ones to decide to accept or reject the experimental swine flu vaccination of 2009?
Baxter involved in “military-style operation” to give entire UK population H1N1 jab
Baxter, the company currently under investigation by the Austrian police for manufacturing and distributing 72 kilos of vaccine material with live bird flu virus, a virus which was supplied by WHO, is to play a leading role in the mass vaccination of the entire UK population with an unproven substance against the artificial H1N1 virus in a “military-style operation” this autumn, reports CLG.
Vaccine May Be More Dangerous Than Swine Flu
Worldwide, there have only been 311 deaths out of 70,893 cases of swine flu. In the United States, 27,717 cases have resulted in 127 deaths. Every death is a tragedy, but such a low death rate should not be the basis of a draconian government policy.
It is helpful to recall that the Centers for Disease Control with the collusion of the media, constantly tell us that 36,000 people die from the flu each year, a figure that has been shown to be a lie. In this case, we are talking about 300 plus deaths for the entire world.
Legal immunity for swine flue vaccine makers
Since the 1980s, the [US] government has protected vaccine makers against lawsuits over the use of childhood vaccines. Instead, a federal court handles claims and decides who will be paid from a special fund.
The document signed by Sebelius last month grants immunity to those making a swine flu vaccine, under the provisions of a 2006 law for public health emergencies. It allows for a compensation fund, if needed.
The government takes such steps to encourage drug companies to make vaccines, and it's worked.Swine flu vaccine (or any other vaccine, for that matter) cannot stand on its own feet. Government intervention and guarantees are needed to entice vaccine makers to produce and to force people to submit to the vaccine... it doesn't seem quite right, does it?
US agencies challenge natural products in advance of vaccination program
The Germ Defense products are marketed as dietary supplements containing vitamins C and E, zinc, and Echinacea. These are natural products being used for the purposes of immune modulation, but the FTC have charged that there is "inadequate evidence" to support their claims that the products "could reduce the risk of or prevent colds and flu; protect against or fight germs; reduce the severity or duration of a cold; protect against colds and flu in crowded places; and boost the immune system".
Why are the regulators clamping down and tightening up on the use of natural products for immune modulation, at a time when, with the spread of swine flu, people may want to be strengthening their immune defences?
