Pharma

Pharmaceutical medicine is being touted by our health authorities as the only way to "manage illness". Yet, deaths from the known side effects of pharmaceutical drugs and medical errors are one of the leading causes of death in Western countries. The profit based pharmaceutical model of health is not only extremely expensive - national health systems are going bankrupt all over the place - it is also extremely inefficient in achieving health for us all. In fact we are getting sicker and sicker, while the "disease market" keeps growing by leaps and bounds. I believe we should do something to change that.

Fear of the Invisible - The Virus that never was

Categories

Fear of the Invisible is a book by Janine Roberts that takes a deep look into the world of virus isolation and vaccine manufacture. It appears that isolation of a virus is not a clean-cut business, nor is the evidence that these little fragments of information from our cells' DNA actually do cause disease.

Since the data puts the causation of polio, the flu, and even aids into doubt, the advisability of vaccination as a practice to prevent "viral diseases" loses much of its appeal as a public health measure.

fearoftheinvisible_cover_150x221.jpg

The book "takes its readers on a journey into the very heart of the hunt for viruses – to the key experiments performed to prove that these invisibly small particles cause diseases that often were previously blamed on toxins or bacteria. It sheds light on the extraordinary assumptions underlying much of this research into viruses – and the resulting vaccines and antiviral medicines."

From the book's Introduction

The word ‘virus' comes from the Latin for a poisonous liquid, and before that from the Sanskrit for the same. The hunt for them started when, towards the end of the 19th century, it was suggested that invisible living particles much smaller than bacteria might cause the epidemic illnesses for which no bacterial cause could be found. When the electron microscope found tiny particles in the blood serum of patients entering and leaving human cells, this was a Eureka Moment. The prediction was surely about to be proved true. These particles were assumed to be invading and hijacking our cells in order to reproduce. They were thus all condemned as poisons, as ‘viruses.'

As more of these were searched for and found in sick people, many illnesses became blamed on them. They became the invisible enemy, the nano-terrorist we must fear. We were instructed that one of our first duties for our newborn children is to vaccinate them against this dreaded foe. Thus was created an ever-growing multibillion-dollar pharmaceutical industry.

As an example of what passes for virology, the science of viral illnesses, on which rests the whole edifice of a multi-billion dollar vaccine industry and the 'preventive strategy' of much of western medicine, Martin Barnes has summarized a chapter of the book that details the scientific history of polio.

You may be amazed at some of the mind boggling blunders that are at the basis of the 'science' of vaccines. But to get the full story, do buy the book and if you are able to, spread the word.

We need honesty in medicine!

JUPITER Cholesterol Drug Trial: Marketing Tactics Threaten Public Health and Wealth

Categories

There is a climate of elation in the world of pharma: A recent study seems to suggest that cholesterol lowering medication should perhaps be given to everyone, regardless of their level of cholesterol, to prevent future heart attacks. This is big money. At present, sales of cholesterol lowering medications are worth tens of billions of dollars, on a much more limited set of prescribing guidelines.

Yet, there are huge numbers of people suffering from the side effects of statins, which include severe muscle pains, cognitive trouble and even Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease.

VeraSharav.jpg

Vera Hassner Sharav of the Alliance for Human Research Protection discusses the JUPITER study and its implications for our health in an article that looks at the study's limitations and inherent conflicts of interest, as well as the financial aspects of medicating healthy people to lower cholesterol.

Strattera adverse effects: UK Medicines Agency refuses to act

Categories

Janne Larsson, an investigator and reporter in Sweden, has obtained information about adverse event reports on Eli Lilly's ADHD drug Strattera, using the Swedish freedom of information laws. The data, coming from both the FDA's adverse reaction database and from reports to the UK's Medicines agency, shows numerous adverse effects and scores of deaths by suicide.

Yet the agency, even after repeated prodding by Larsson to initiate action, has refused to budge or even acknowledge that there is a problem. MHRA apparently accepts the drug's producer Eli Lilly's data rather than its own and the FDA's adverse event reports.

strattera1.jpg

Image credit: Monheit Law - Contact a Lawyer familiar with Strattera lawsuits

Larsson says: An investigation of MHRA’s handling of the harmful effects of the ADHD drug Strattera has proven the following:

MHRA has ignored data about instances of death among children in connection with Strattera treatment. At least 41 children have died. The agency has not investigated the reported cases and does not even have a compiled summary of cases with fatal outcome. Further the agency has allowed the manufacturer Eli Lilly to give false information about the number of fatal cases and has taken no action against the company once the false information was revealed.

MHRA has for almost three years been in possession of data proving that Strattera can cause agitation, mania and psychotic reactions with hallucinations among children. Yet no warning has been issued to doctors and parents. The agency has withheld these disastrous consequences despite clear evidence. Due to bureaucratic procedures no warnings have been issued even if Eli Lilly reluctanly conceded to include these harmful reactions in its information to the public almost a year ago.

MHRA has for almost three years been in possession of data showing that Strattera in many cases actually can cause or worsen the “condition” it is claimed to alleviate. More than 700 reports were submitted to the manufacturer, Eli Lilly, about Strattera inducing “psychomotor hyperactivity”. Lilly called this an exacerbation of the “underlying ADHD”. If we would apply this to the area of real medicine and to diabetes we could say that the patient got a diabetes medication with resulting heavy increase in blood sugar level. Such a medication would probably be withdrawn very fast from the market. But the MHRA has not yet, after three years, succeeded to get even a bad quality review of these cases done – not even from the manufacturer.

The background data for these conclusions can be found in the following text and in the linked documents. When reading the data below please remember the promise from the MHRA: “…we take any necessary action to protect the public promptly if there is a problem.” MHRA, About us [1]

Note that the linked documents (within letters described below) in most cases could not be obtained in UK where the issuance of them would be deemed as prejudicing “the ability of the Assessory body to offer impartial advice” and where the MHRA wants “to allow marketing authorisation holders the chance to respond to regulatory action and make commercial decisions before data are in the public domain.” (MHRA, e-mail about FOIA-request, 29th September, 2006). However the documents could be obtained in Sweden, even if the MHRA has tried to stop the issuance of them by implying that publication could threaten the relations between Sweden and UK.

Vaccines: To Heal or Not to Heal

Categories

Vaccinations are touted as the public health preventive measure of choice - the must-do in preventive medicine. There is little or no surveillance once a vaccine has hit the market, particularly for the vaccines that were introduced decades ago. And there is reason to believe that much of the touted success of vaccines is due to tricking the statistics and to independent external factors such as better hygiene.

dangerous-vaccines.jpg

Dangerous vaccines - Image: Sitfu

Yet, with all that preventive fervor, our health keeps deteriorating. Autism is on the rise, so are cancer and heart disease and a number of other illnesses that should, if we logically look at it, be possible to prevent.

While there is much evidence that nutrients are needed for prevention of illness, the emphasis of pharmaceutically controlled medicine and public health authorities remains firmly fixed on toxic pharmaceuticals, both in prevention and cure. The trend is rising. Having saturated the "markets" of the industrialized nations, a great push is on to extend the saving grace of our brand of medicine to developing countries.

Vaccine victim and health campaigner Jagannath Chatterjee describes what is happening in India, how in a rather mindless way the "preventive" procedures of Western medicine are being put into effect there. His description is quite representative for what is happening in a number of developing countries, and he asks some pertinent questions.
