Pharma 
Pharmaceutical medicine is being touted by our health authorities as the only way to "manage illness". Yet, deaths from the known side effects of pharmaceutical drugs and medical errors are one of the leading causes of death in Western countries.
The profit based pharmaceutical model of health is not only extremely expensive - national health systems are going bankrupt all over the place - it is also extremely inefficient in achieving health for us all. In fact we are getting sicker and sicker, while the "disease market" keeps growing by leaps and bounds.
I believe we should do something to change that.

A plague of extreme proportion is the result of the misuse and over-use of the products of pharmacy, a word derived from the Greek pharmakon, translated as magic charm, poison, drug.
Think of antibiotics actually creating virulent microbial species that are just about impossible to kill off, think about the so-called cholesterol lowering drugs that are now turning out to have all manner of side effects, from excruciating muscle pains to kidney failure as well as loss of memory and cognitive effects, think of psychiatric drugs which - rather than balancing the faults of character listed as "illness" - further unbalance a person to the point of violence and suicide.

Today, the pharmaceutical plague is probably worse than any one of the hyped up epidemics such as Aids, the Bird Flu, or any other supposedly virus-based illnesses that are being profitably exploited by a successful industry selling us "vaccines". Pharma not only empties our pockets, it actually makes us sick.
Jon Rappoport has an idea how to slow down this pharmaceutical plague. It won't be easy and it will require some no-nonsense direct involvement. But there is a chance it can be done. Here is what he says:

April 10, 2008. As many of you know, children have been targeted by drug companies as a vast market for pharmaceutical sales. In particular, the mental health crowd sees this population as extremely fertile.
For their ongoing campaign to succeed, estimates have to be floated to the press and public. For example, we are told that roughly 3.4 million American children are suffering from clinical depression --- and then this is corrected by claiming that up to a million of these 3.4 are actually victims of bipolar disorder (manic depression).
Such estimates open the door for prescribed drugs. Antidepressants, lithium, anti-psychotics, and so on...

Dr Andrew Wakefield, a vaccine researcher who found that the combined measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine appears to lead to serious side effects, including post-vaccine autism in a number of the children receiving it, is being ostracized from the medical community and his carreer is being targeted to shut up unwanted criticism that could go to the heart of the multi billion dollar vaccine business.
A friend in the UK alternative health scene sent the following information, which I would like to make available here:
At a hearing that is being drawn out by the British General Medical Council (GMC) to last over 18 months, Dr Andrew Wakefield begins presenting his defence on March 27th 2008. Dr Wakefield and his other two defendants have been the victims of the most terrible distortions of truth and assailed by lies after they uncovered and brought into public view the health crisis created by the MMR vaccination that has left hundreds of children suffering from serious bowel disease and regressive autism.
The GMC and the science lobby groups together with Brian Deer who is the sole complainant in the GMC fitness-to-practice case, have studiously avoided all reference to the parents and damaged children. Determined to support their doctor, these children and their parents are running an energetic campaign against the GMC, the lobby groups and Brian Deer. However, with much of their income taken up by caring for their vaccine damaged children there is little left to run the campaign.
Cry Shame, the parents and professional organisation in support of vaccine damaged children and those suffering from regressive autism have organised a major demonstration on March 27th, the day that the GMC prosecution begins again. As well as asking for your support in sending the attached leaflet out on as many lists as you have access to, Cry Shame is also asking for you to make a sensible financial contribution to the campaign and particularly the organisation of the demonstration.
Meanwhile, pharmaceutical producers are activating all their resources and are cranking out studies that show what Wakefield found must not be trusted, that vaccines do not cause autism and have never ever done so, at least that is the interpretation these studies are given in the press. It appears to me however, that these efforts may be motivated by the prospect of losing a huge source of government-supported income from their vaccine business.
If the public were to "lose confidence" in vaccinations, much of this business would go down the drain and that prospect is seen by both the manufacturers of vaccines and by their friends in government health offices as a simply unacceptable scenario. Vaccinations are seen as a holy cow of medicine that must not be endangered by unacceptable contrary research results.
One might even speculate that the "vaccine damage compensation" programs run by governments are merely a tool to keep things quiet on the vaccination front. Vaccine damage cases can not be brought before the ordinary courts. The special vaccine compensation programs do eventually pay, but no one really hears how many cases of vaccine damage there are. Everything is well insulated from public scrutiny, while of course public money - your taxes - pay the damage done by pharma's vaccines.

A new book by Martin Walker - Cultural Dwarfs and Junk Journalism: Ben Goldacre, quackbusting and corporate science, takes on the UK variety of a particularly yucky kind of medical and industrial propagandists, the so-called quackbusters. The book can be downloaded freely from the Slingshot Publications site.
Goldacre who it is claimed is a Junior doctor working in a London NHS hospital is actually a clinical researcher working at the centre of New Labour’s Orwellian spin operation that puts a sympathetic gloss on anything shown to create adverse reactions from MMR to Wi-Fi, while at the same time undermining cost-effective and long tried alternative therapies such as acupuncture and homoeopathy. Goldacre is involved with public health researchers well known for trying to prove that those who claim to be adversely affected by pollutants in our modern high-technology society, suffer from ‘false illness beliefs’.
Quackbusters make sure any suspicion that pollution from industry and technology causes illness is squashed before it gets public exposure. Their mantra is that you should trust industry and their own 'scientific' studies. Any remedy or system of health that works without having been 'scientifically' proven is ridiculed and made nothing of. The US variety of quackbusters is well described by Tim Bolen in his article: Who are these so-called "Quackbusters"?...
Their modus operandi is the same on both sides of the Atlantic: Protect the polluters and killers and ridicule anyone who would demand a cleanup or who could possibly provide more simple and more efficient solutions to the environmental and health problems that are a result of the polluters' actions.
True to his incomparable style of investigative reporting, Martin Walker traces Ben Goldacre's career and connections and exposes him as the severely biased source of information the quackbusters say they want to combat. Be it chemical sensitivity, the MMR vaccine, mobile phone radiation, homeopathy or nutritional medicine, Goldacre has his fingers in the pie. Always defending the status quo and pointing to those who demand investigation and reforms as some sort of demented weirdos who should be banned from society.
Martin Walker goes far in explaining why our world is as messed up as it is, and why the press, taking its cues people like Goldacre and his mentors, is doing little or nothing to make things better. His book is a real education in things that aren't obvious but that should be to anyone trying to make a difference. According to data uncovered by Swedish investigative writer Janne Larsson, suicides are strongly correlated with psychiatric drug treatment and antidepressants. More than 80 per cent of suicides reported in Sweden in 2006 were committed by persons under psychiatric drug treatment and well over 50 per cent had taken antidepressant drugs.
A recently enacted Swedish law requires health care providers to report suicides committed by persons in health care and up to four weeks after cessation of treatment. The reports are sent to the National Board of Health for investigation.
In 2006, 367 suicides were reported. Data obtained through Freedom of Information requests show that better than 80 per cent of the persons who committed suicide had been treated with psychiatric drugs. In more than 50 per cent of the cases the person had taken antidepressants. The percentage increased to 60 per cent considering both antidepressants and neuroleptic, also called antipsychotic, drugs.
