US Government: Phase out Dental Mercury - Health Supreme NewsGrabs 11 April 2011

U.S. Government Calls for the Phase-out of Dental Mercury Amalgam...

In an extraordinary development that will change the global debate about amalgam, the United States government has announced that it supports a “phase down, with the goal of eventual phase out by all Parties, of mercury amalgam.” This statement - a radical reversal of its former position [denying] that “any change toward the use of dental amalgam is likely to result in positive public health outcomes” – - is part of the U.S. government’s submission for the upcoming third round of negotiations for the world mercury treaty.

United Nations Urged to Ban Mercury in Vaccines

While the United Nations actively questions the use of vaccines containing a neurotoxic mercury compound, the Coalition for Mercury-Free Drugs, a Maryland-based, non-profit organization, is urging the UN to ban it.

A CoMeD analysis has shown that replacing Thimerosal, a compound that is 50% bioaccumulative mercury by weight, with 2-phenoxyphenol in all vaccines, including the flu shot, is both economical and safer. Additionally, CoMeD has sued the FDA for its failure to comply with the law and enforce preservative safety regulations.

The Health Hazards of "Disease Prevention"

There are no studies comparing vaccine safety to a genuine placebo. The only study that claims to do so compared active vaccines to a placebo containing all the adjuvants, including neomycin (a known neurotoxin).

Research shows: Fluoridation does not work

Haines has found in the ARCPOH statistics that the permanent teeth of children in largely unfluoridated (less than 5% before 2009) Queensland were erupting on average two years earlier than the children in the rest of Australia, which is largely fluoridated. A two-year delay would negate all the small reductions in tooth decay claimed by dental researchers since 1990. In other words fluoridation doesn't work. Any difference in tooth decay claimed to be due to fluoride is simply an artifact of the delayed eruption caused by fluoride.

Vitamin D levels linked with health of blood vessels

A lack of vitamin D, even in generally healthy people, is linked with stiffer arteries and an inability of blood vessels to relax, research from the Emory/Georgia Tech Predictive Health Institute has found.

The results add to evidence that lack of vitamin D can lead to impaired vascular health, contributing to high blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular disease. Study participants who increased their vitamin D levels were able to improve vascular health and lower their blood pressure.

Pregnant women at risk of Vitamin D deficiency

An editorial written by Professor Peter Ebeling of the University of Melbourne and Western Health, identifies pregnant women as a high risk group for getting vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy and other related diseases such as gestational diabetes, putting both mother and baby at risk.

“Evidence has accumulated linking vitamin D deficiency to adverse outcomes in pregnancy, such as preeclampsia, hypertension, higher rates of caesarean section and pre-term delivery,” he said.

He said gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), is increasingly becoming more common, affecting up to 10% of pregnancies.

“Current evidence strongly supports routine screening for vitamin D deficiency early in pregnancy,” he said.

“Furthermore, vitamin D supplementation to correct deficiency should be initiated early in pregnancy to help strengthen bones in babies and because it might reduce the incidence or severity of GDM.

Study helps confirm effectiveness of intravenous vitamin C in fighting cancer

Among its various findings, the study suggests that ascorbic acid, an isolated form of vitamin C, may help to protect endothelial cells from chronic stress. Several sources cited in the study also suggest that cancer patients generally lack adequate vitamin C levels, for which higher levels of disease-causing inflammation are a result. Cited references in the study also showed that high-dose vitamin C is even linked to actually stopping the growth of tumors and causing them to shrink.

When the drugs don't work

Antibiotic-resistant bugs like MRSA and C. difficile tend to be picked up by patients in hospitals, but the risks are far broader than a hospital stay. Take the story of the 100 or so Swedes who went traveling to different parts of the world and were tracked by scientists to see what bugs they brought home. Of the eight who went to India, seven -- that's 88 percent -- came back with bacteria in their guts that were resistant to a whole class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. Not one of the people in the study had been in a doctor's clinic or hospital while they were there -- indicating the superbugs they picked up were freely circulating in the community.

How long will it take us to realize that we are doing this to ourselves. We have for-profit medicine and for-profit drug making, which means that any use for a drug that is conceivable is going to be pushed. Antibiotics are a case in point. Not only are they over-prescribed in humans, they are added to animal feed as a routine, making ideal conditions for the development of superbugs.

There is no incentive to stop such monkey business as long as the profit model of healthcare prevails. We will continue to kill ourselves in the name of ever "better" drugs and ever more "clever" uses of them.

USA: Bill affirms freedom of speech for nutritional health information

The Free Speech about Science Act, HR 1364, would change FDA regulations so that legitimate, peer-reviewed scientific studies can be referenced without changing the food’s regulatory category to an unapproved drug. This will protect access to scientific information, and will protect your right to know about the healthy benefits of food and food supplements. The bill amends the appropriate sections of current law to allow the flow of legitimate scientific and educational information while still giving FDA and FTC the right to take action against misleading information and against false and unsubstantiated claims.

Genetically modified cows produce 'human' milk

The scientists have successfully introduced human genes into 300 dairy cows to produce milk with the same properties as human breast milk.

Human milk contains high quantities of key nutrients that can help to boost the immune system of babies and reduce the risk of infections.

The scientists behind the research believe milk from herds of genetically modified cows could provide an alternative to human breast milk and formula milk for babies, which is often criticised as being an inferior substitute.

What's wrong with just plain old human mothers milk?

European Market to Be Flooded with Cloned Meats & Dairy?

The European Union has become Agribusiness's dream. After sabotage by the UK's grotesquely misplaced Secretary of State for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Caroline Spelman and cohorts have managed to prevent an agreement for sale and labeling of cloned foods in the EU. Of course, in any rational system of government, a lack of approval on products that most people think should be banned would mean that they can't be sold. However, in this twisted system, the opposite is happening. As we speak, over a hundred cloned cattle are now being raised on UK pseudo-farms.

Problems with Roundup

Glyphosate chelates (immobilizes) a tremendous number of soil minerals, reducing plant uptakes of some micronutrients by as much as 80%, Huber says. Calcium, cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, nickel, zinc — all are bound up by glyphosate. While it is rapidly immobilized in the soil because it binds with those nutrients, glyphosate can remain in plants and soils for a very long time — up to 22 years in clay soils, Huber contends.

“It’s not just put it on the soil and ‘poof!’, it’s gone. It’s there for a very long time,” Huber told the Wisconsin grazing audience.

Glyphosate is also a potent microbiocide (disinfectant) that kills soils organisms important to converting certain minerals to forms usable by the plant, and in controlling soil-borne diseases that limit nutrient uptakes.

Dr. William Rea Exonerated after anonymous complaint

The Texas Medical Board has ended its prosecution of one of the deans of environmental medicine. William J. Rea, M.D., a board certified cardiovascular surgeon and founder of the Environmental Health Center in Dallas, now stands exonerated of all charges.

The Board had accused Dr. Rea of "failure to practice medicine in an acceptable pro- fessional manner consistent with public health and welfare."

'Quackwatchers' Robert Baratz and Steve Barrett who themselves are being sued by Doctor's Data, were unsuccessful in their bid to back the complaint.

Manipulating morals: scientists target drugs that improve behaviour

A pill to enhance moral behaviour, a treatment for racist thoughts, a therapy to increase your empathy for people in other countries - these may sound like the stuff of science fiction but with medicine getting closer to altering our moral state, society should be preparing for the consequences, according to a book that reviews scientific developments in the field.

Drugs such as Prozac that alter a patient's mental state already have an impact on moral behaviour, but scientists predict that future medical advances may allow much more sophisticated manipulations...

I have a feeling that there must be better ways than drugs to improve moral behavior.

Tamiflu drug is useless, states professor

Dr. Barbara Mintzes says she's looked at the manufacturer's own clinical research and found that Tamiflu's beneficial effects have been significantly overstated by the manufacturer Roche.

"You get the impression it's effective against complications of the flu," Mintzes said. "Really, it's a case of cherry-picking some of the results."

The Ethics of Marketing Vaccines: Dr. Jacob Puliyel

Dr. Puliyel speaks with authority and passion: his presentation is riveting from start to finish (never mind the primitive video technology).

His focus is about how new and relatively useless vaccines--like the Hepatitis and pneumococcal vaccines--are being pushed in underdeveloped, poor countries. How doctors are given huge cash incentives to prescribe them, and how Bill Gates $$$ gifts are calculated to ultimately divert scarce resources from much needed life-saving vaccines.

Australia: Parents of baby girl victim of flu vaccine debacle to sue Government

Mick and Kirsten Button's daughter, Saba, suffered global brain injury plus kidney, liver and bone marrow failure after prolonged seizures following her vaccination shot. She may never walk or talk.

Legal experts believe a payout of more than $10 million is not out of the question. The Sunday Times understands a writ will be served in the District Court this month.

Adventures In Autism: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help"

The state of Maine is considering, get this shocker, passing a law to prevent forced vaccination.

End of the world... I know.

So yesterday I hopped up to the state house when I heard that they were having debate on this bill. Turned out they were also considering a bill to, horror of all horrors... compel doctors to tell patients what is in a vaccine before administering it to them. I can almost hear the bodies dropping dead left and right as the plague sweeps the nation because people know what is in a vaccine.

Economy: Dutch bankers' bonuses axed by people power

Customers at Dutch bank ING threatened to collectively withdraw deposits in protest against bonuses awarded to executives.

ING customers mobilised on Twitter and other social networks to protest at bonuses paid to bosses at the bank, one of the biggest in the country. The threat of direct action raised the spectre of a partial run on ING, terrifying the Dutch establishment. Fred Polhout, union organiser at the bank, says: "People were outraged. We heard about the bloated sums being paid again in the City and in New York; but suddenly the issue exploded on our own front door."

Compared with the packages awarded to bankers in the US and UK, the Dutch bonuses were small potatoes. Jan Hommen, ING's chief executive, was due to receive a £1m bonus – a pittance when you consider that Stephen Hester, head of state-controlled RBS in the UK, is in line for up to £7.7m, Bob Diamond of Barclays is to collect as much as £6.5m, and some senior bankers at Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan are looking at windfalls of about £40m each.

Energy: Cost of Solar Power Competitive with Coal Some Places, & Dropping Fast

“Large photovoltaic projects will cost $1.45 a watt to build by 2020, half the current price,” Bloomberg New Energy Finance reported. However, already, in sunny regions like the Middle East and California, “solar is viable against fossil fuels on the electric grid.”

“We are already in this phase change and are very close to grid parity,” Shawn Qu, chief executive officer of Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ), said. “In many markets, solar is already competitive with peak electricity prices, such as in California and Japan.”
