'Bad Cholesterol' not so bad after all - Health Supreme NewsGrabs 15 May 2011

'Bad' cholesterol not as bad as people think, study shows

The study reveals that LDL is not the evil Darth Vader of health it has been made out to be in recent years and that new attitudes need to be adopted in regards to the substance.

Cholesterol is found in all humans and is a type of fat around the body. A person's total cholesterol level is comprised of LDL (low-density lipoprotein) and HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol.

LDL is almost always referred to as the "bad" cholesterol because it tends to build up in the walls of arteries, causing a slowing of the blood flow which often leads to heart disease and heart attacks.

HDL, usually called the "good cholesterol," often helps remove cholesterol from arteries.

"But here is where people tend to get things wrong," Riechman says.

"LDL serves a very useful purpose. It acts as a warning sign that something is wrong and it signals the body to these warning signs. It does its job the way it is supposed to.

"People often say, 'I want to get rid of all my bad (LDL) cholesterol,' but the fact is, if you did so, you would die," the Texas A&M professor adds. "Everyone needs a certain amount of both LDL and HDL in their bodies. We need to change this idea of LDL always being the evil thing – we all need it, and we need it to do its job."

Doctors have been pushing the cholesterol myth ("it's bad for you and has to be lowered") for too long. Cholesterol lowering meds, also called statins, are damaging - yet they are a mainstay of drug sales.

Vaccines Responsible for Massive Decline in Natural Immunity

Moritz provides the scientific evidence that shows vaccination suppresses the primary immune system located in the gut, also called cellular immune system.

Vaccines bypass this essential part of the immune system and merely provoke the secondary immune response, called the anti-body response. However, while activating the anti-body response, vaccines automatically shut down the primary immune system, which poses a long-term health risk.

European Parliament: 'Grave concerns' over European Medicines Agency impartiality

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have bared their teeth in no uncertain manner over the independence of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the body entrusted to determine the safety and effectiveness of drugs in the European Union.

In a damning indictment of the EMA, of the type many people had despaired of ever witnessing in the closed environment of the European Parliament, an overwhelming majority of MEPs – 637 to 4! – voted not to sign off on the EMA’s accounts.

Marijuana Medicine for Post Traumatic Stress - FDA Approves Study

On April 28, 2011, the Food and Drug Administration approved a planned study of marijuana for PTSD in veterans of war. This is a historic first for medical marijuana research, being the first time the FDA has approved an outpatient marijuana study.

USA: THE NAKED FEAR OF HEALTH FREEDOM

First, few politicians are willing to challenge the agenda of the pharmaceutical companies (drug everybody from cradle to grave). Second, these health-freedom advocates are radical decentralists—which means they know how it feels to be denied the right to take care of their own bodies. They have met the enemy and they know how it operates on a very personal level.

There is no chance politicians will be able to finesse these voters or make empty promises to them or wow them with “task forces” created to “study problems.” Health-freedom folks are too smart for any of that nonsense.

They want unbridled freedom. They want, for example, to be able to say no to vaccines for their children without having to walk the gauntlet of officials who try to dissuade and intimidate and threaten them.

They want to find alternative treatments for cancer in many cases, and cancer happens to be one of those tightly guarded provinces, where big money and big government insist on radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery, come hell or high water.

Radioactive Fallout: Can Nutritional Supplements Help?

Fukushima is now off the media map, replaced by dramatic political events. Contrast this with the coverage that was given to the Chernobyl disaster. Perhaps at that time there was a sense that the destruction of a nuclear power plant in the Ukraine was a metaphor for the failure of the Soviet Union. But Fukushima is, or will eventually prove to be, a far worse disaster. It is one that will be underplayed. The world is committed to nuclear power, and we will not be shown its true dangers. Do not expect to be told the whole truth when reading reassuring statements from industry or governments. Fukushima is affecting us all.

Radioactive elements released from Fukushima include plutonium, strontium, cesium and iodine. Ten days after the tsunami, Japanese scientists reported increased radioactive cesium and iodine in seawater offshore of Fukushima, and they rapidly reached levels "more than 1 million times higher than previously existed." [3] More serious radiation levels are likely in the USA when this polluted seawater reaches the west coast, which is estimated to take from 18 months to 3 years.

European drug regulator accused of harming patients with commercial secrecy fraud

The body that licenses medicines in the UK and Europe is today accused of putting commercial interests ahead of the safety of patients after two scientists battled for three years to get access to unpublished trial data.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA), which is responsible for the safety and efficacy of medicines licensed in Europe, only released the trial findings, running to almost 130,000 pages, in February after the European ombudsman ruled that it was guilty of maladministration.

The scientists, from the Nordic Cochrane Centre in Denmark, say the withholding of unpublished data puts the lives and welfare of patients at risk and full access must be granted to allow the true benefits and harms of drugs to be independently assessed.

Big Pharma obstructing vital safety studies about methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta) – and European medical authorities allow it to happen

And the UK regulator decides that all documents about this affair are confidential, cannot be released, as “The MHRA are at present still in discussion with themanufacturer, and until such time as a decision is made, this information should not be released”. The Commission, the EMA and the Swedish Medical Products Agency, say upon request that they don’t have any documents about this affair; it’s handled by the MHRA. In other words these authorities don’t know anything about this important affair.

After four years, the medical authority concerned, the MHRA, is still “discussing” whether those vital safety studies could be started!

USA: Cardiac Society Draws Bulk of Funding From Stent Makers

The Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) received 57 percent of its revenues in 2009 from medical device and pharmaceutical makers, according to financial information on the group's website.

Industry contributions to the society's budget covered $4.7 million of the $8.2 million it received that year.

The group's biggest funders are the companies with the biggest share of the stent market: Cordis Corp. (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson), Boston Scientific, Abbott Laboratories and Medtronic.

FAKING MEDICAL REALITY

“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.”

Video: Cancer - forbidden cures

20 minutes of key excerpts from video documentary 'Cancer: The Forbidden Cures'
Also links to full video and some related articles.

The alleged cancer cures presented in the excellent documentary "Cancer: The Forbidden Cures" are well worth exploring. Though not yet proven under rigorous scientific protocols which are very expensive, there is no doubt that literally thousands of people who doctors had sent home to die were cured after taking the cancer treatments presented in this engaging documentary.

US Inspector General Report: Antipsychotic Drug Hazards

An audit by Daniel Levinson, Inspector General of DHHS, confirms what has already been documented: that antipsychotics are widely misprescribed for unapproved uses and taxpayers are saddled with the high cost through Medicaid and Medicare.
Antipsychotics are used primarily as chemical restraints to control behavior-- not for any therapeutic, medically justifiable reason.. The claimed benefit for patients has never been supported by independent scientific evidence.

The life-shortening hazards of Antipsychotic drugs-- for adults and children -- have been documented and verified by the National Institute of Mental Health . Indeed, antipsychotics carry a black box warning label about sudden deaths in the elderly. This is not to say, that they are less dangerous for children for whom they are also widely misprescribed.

Scientists fear MMR link to autism

The study appears to confirm the findings of British doctor Andrew Wakefield, who caused a storm in 1998 by suggesting a possible link.

Now a team from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina are examining 275 children with regressive autism and bowel disease - and of the 82 tested so far, 70 prove positive for the measles virus.

High Rates of Autism Found in U.S. Federal Vaccine Injury Program

For the past two decades, according to the group, "the federal government has publicly denied a vaccine-autism link, while at the same time its Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) has been awarding damages for vaccine injury to children with brain damage, seizures and autism."

Their investigation, "based on public, verifiable government data, breaks new ground in the controversial vaccine-autism debate," and reports that "a substantial number of children compensated for vaccine injury also have autism -- the evidence suggests that autism is at least three times more prevalent among vaccine-injured children than among children in the general population."

Federal Court Compensated 83 Vaccine-Injured Autistic Children

For over 20 years, the federal government has vehemently denied a vaccine-autism link. But a new study, the first to examine the successfully adjudicated cases of vaccine-induced brain injury by the federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), uncovered 83 cases of autism among those who have been compensated for vaccine-induced brain damage--most notably, "encephalopathy," "residual seizure disorder," "developmental regression."

The evidence uncovered by this study, clearly belies public pronouncements by government officials who have for decades misled the public by claiming emphatically that "no evidence exists linking autism to vaccines" and "no case of vaccine- induced autism has ever been compensated."

African Union to Support Organic Farming

An important milestone in sustainable agriculture for Africa was reached in a little-publicized decision made on organic farming by the African Union’s Executive Council in January 2011.

The decision requests the African Union (AU) Commission and its New Partnership for Africa’s Development Planning and Coordinating Agency to initiate and provide guidance for an AU-led coalition of international partners to establish an African organic farming platform based on available best practices; and to provide guidance in support of the development of sustainable organic farming systems and improve seed quality

In a speech given by Her Excellency Tumusiime Rhoda Peace, AU Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture, to the Conference of African Ministers of Agriculture held in October 2010, which highlighted the potentials of ecological agriculture, she stressed that ecological agriculture generates both economic value and sustainable development: “We believe that promoting it in all of our countries would enable Africa to exploit this niche.”

Gardasil/Cervarix – A Legacy Of Shame

Gardasil ostensibly protects against 4 of the most prevalent genital HPV strains, types 6, 11, 16 & 18; said to account for 70% of cervical cancers & 90% of related genital warts. Given the limitations of Merck’s original clinical trial methods, the fact that malignant cervical cancer takes decades to develop and yet the longest clinical trial on Gardasil was only four years in duration; irrespective of the overwhelming evidence citing a 74% drop in cervical cancer mortality & incidence rates, in developed countries, due to a widespread emphasis on regular pap smears & safe sex and/or abstinence from unprotected sex, the bottom line indicates ‘Gardasil was never shown to prevent cervical cancer.’

Mobile phones are ‘to blame for the sudden decline in the world’s bee population’

The study – published in the beekeepers’ magazine Apidologie – found that the phone signals confused the bees who began to fly erratically before suddenly dying.

The scientists carried out 83 experiments in hives and recorded the bees’ reactions to mobile phones in off, standby and call-making modes.

The noise produced by the bees increased more than ten-fold whenever a phone made or received a call – the noise dropped to normal level when the phone was off or on standby.

Mr Favre explained: ‘The bees’ noise drastically increases as soon as the phone rings – the rays from the phone and the noise clearly disturbs the bees.

‘This gives the bees the signal to leave the hive. But often they are so confused they fly to their death.

‘Mobile phone technology is fateful for bees. The study definitely proves that.’

The PDF report on the study can be found here - The title is "Mobile phone-induced honeybee worker piping"

Ban mobile phones and wireless networks in schools, say European leaders

The Council of Europe, which has 47 member states and is based in Strasbourg, cannot impose its will on governments, but is highly influential in policy-making and has often seen its decisions enacted through conventions and treaties.

A draft resolution – calling on governments to "take all reasonable measures to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields" from mobile phones and similar devices, including the ban in schools – was adopted unanimously by the organisation's Committee on the Environment, Agriculture and Local and Regional Affairs.
