Mad Cow in the US: We're going to D.C.

The man who killed the mad cow - Dave Louthan - has been doing his nut to break through the apparent government cover-up of mad cow in the US. Without any appreciable result.

"I talked to anybody who would listen. TV, radio, the papers, Congress, state and federal, the internet. Everybody I could think of. I must have done a thousand interviews but nothing changed. Old dairy cows kept getting slaughtered and eaten and not a single solitary BSE test was done. Not one. There was no public outcry. No laws changed. No feeding practices were stopped. Nothing."

So Dave took a break and went back to driving a truck.

"I'm a truck driver by trade. Cow killing was just one of those little side trips life takes sometimes. So I'm driving around listening to the radio and all I hear is Iraq, Iraq, Iraq, Iraq. Some more of our kids killed. Some more of their kids killed. Nothing else."

Only venting his pent-up anger? Maybe, but he is doing the only thing he logically can do - looking at the next level of corruption. If mad cow can be covered up, and if a war can be fought with no good reason - against the will of people the world over and even people in the US, the question soon arises: Who's driving the bus? Read Dave's take on it and his idea of how to forge ahead.

Update 24 May 2004:

(See the second article)

Who's driving the bus?

My name is Dave Louthan. I'm the guy who killed the mad cow back in December. I spent the next four months chasing the ghost of the mad cow. The second that word of the BSE positive cow came back the USDA started lying. I'm not talking about semantics or definitions I mean bold faced flat out lying. I tore into them trying to stop what I realized was a steady stream of diseased beef into the food supply. The meat that your kids and mine had been eating. No are still eating. That's right after all the trouble, the discovery, the daily news reports, the loss of all the foreign markets, the news of all the mad cow deaths in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, we are still killing and eating diseased beef as fast as possible.

Hamburger comes from old, sick, diary cows. Milk cows. The diary farmers get two year old Holstein heifers feed them blood, dead cow guts, dead dogs from the pound, dead chickens and chicken feces, and hay. They milk the hell out of them for five or six years until there is just nothing left of those poor old babes then they kill' em, feed you the meat and feed the guts back to the next generation of milk cows. These guts have mad cow in them and feeding back to other cows amplifies the disease getting it stronger on each go'round. I can't be any plainer than that.

When you go to the drive thru for a sack of burgers you are buying mad cow sandwiches. When you hand that cheese burger over the back seat you are giving your child some ground up dead cow that had a very bad death and a disease there is no cure for. A brain rotting, seizure causing, six months of pure hell that can only end in merciful death.

It will go like this. One day your child will start bumping into things and slurring their speech. Their grades will slip and they will be depressed and strange. You'll think it's a drug problem at first but a trip to the doctor will reveal a brain malady. Spontaneous CJD reads the diagnosis but you know better. You killed your baby with convenient inexpensive ground beef. You knew it was contaminated but you fed it anyway. The way the USDA explained it you would probably not get any mad cow meat. The odds were in your favor. They lied. Your curmudgeon died.

Sad, ugly, lonely truth

Well anyway I killed that cow. I saw what the Government was up to and went on crusade to get it stopped. Now I'm like you. I get up in the morning brush my teeth and go to work. I worry about the bills and live my life. I'm no politician or activist nor hero or anything else. I'm just a guy but the things the USDA were saying were so far from the truth I got mad. Mad at them for lying and mad at you for believing it. I jumped in my old truck and commenced to beating the hell out of the USDA.

I talked to anybody who would listen. Nothing. If anything meat sales went up. I was completely frustrated. Baffled. What is wrong with people?

My sweetheart said look Dave nobody cares come home now. I did. I was out of money and I was tired. I got a job. Went to work. I'm a truck driver by trade. Cow killing was just one of those little side trips life takes sometimes. So I'm driving around listening to the radio and all I hear is Iraq, Iraq, Iraq, Iraq. Some more of our kids killed. Some more of their kids killed. Nothing else.

What the hell are we doing in Iraq? That's not our business. Why are you letting those idiots in the White House spend ALL of our money and kill hundreds of our children in a desert we don't know anything or even care about? George Bush is an idiot who is a puppet for people with agendas you don't understand. People who are going to make trillions of dollars while standing in the blood of your children. People who don't give a tinkers damn about you or the love you have for your child. They couldn't care less about the pain and loss we all feel when the child we spent our lives growing and teaching gets blown to bits in a Baghdad alley ten thousand miles away. BOOM! child gone. Little bloody pieces.

George Bush wants another 50 billion dollars so he can do some more killing. I don't want to spend my money on killing. I want to spend it on fun stuff like better roads and education. Can you imagine what kind of good you could do if you had 50 billion dollars to play with. All that idiot wants to do is kill people. Get rid of him. Throw him out. Send him back to Crawford, Texas in disgrace.

When that's done we can get back to the real problems here at home. The Government is corrupt. The food supply is corrupt. The oil companies and the power companies are corrupt. The stock market is corrupt. These people are all one and the same. I'm not talking about a lot of people either. There are less than a hundred people up there at the top cleaning your clock. You slave away just making ends meet and they are sitting on a pile of money the size of a ten story building. You pay a third or more of your hard earned dollars to the Government every friday and those people don't pay a dime. I'm tired of that.

It's time for a change. Let's take it back. Let's all go to Washington D.C. and take it back. I'm talking about a march. A large demonstration 100 million people sick and tired of being ripped off. 100 million people tired of the killing and the waste. 100 million people who no longer care to eat diseased meat. This is our country it doesn't belong to those crooks. They had a chance and all they did with it was lie, cheat, steal and kill.

Are you with me? Everybody get up and start moving toward the door. We're going to D.C. 100 million voices strong. We want the perpetrators of all this waste and stealing and killing caught, prosecuted and locked up. The President, his cabinet, all the crooked CEOs, the people who have been controlling the media, the people hiding the mad cows, the underlings who knew and didn't say anything, the people who have been sucking this great country dry, all of them stopped.

The way things are now ain't working. Our country is like a big bus hurtling down the side of a mountain out of control. Nobody is driving. The people that are supposed to be driving aren't even on the bus. We sit here with blindfolds on as the soothing evening news voice tells us everything is fine. The odds of something bad happening are greater than winning the lottery but you can feel the bus picking up speed. I know you do. At the bottom there is going to be a big terrible crash and the crows of power are going to fly down and pick your bones clean. Take your blindfold off. Walk to the front of the bus and put on the brakes.

Take what ever steps you feel are necessary. Be it a letter to the editor, a call to your Congressman, an all out demonstration on Capital Hill. It's never been against the law to defend yourself. Now is the time tommorrow is to late. The United States of America has fallen into the hands of some severely evil people and you have got to stop them. Right now.

We can use my web site as a meeting place to start with. All that want to get into it send me an email and I'll try to hook up who ever needs to be heard with everybody else. Some good organizers will come out and some plans can be made and we will start the snowball rolling to fix this country. We gotta start somewhere and this is as good a spot as any. We have got to move now though everyday that goes by means more soldiers killed for no reason and another billion dollars wasted and another hundred thousand beef killed and eaten without a single BSE test done. Thank you for your time.

Hi friends. Dave louthan here.

I'm the guy that killed that mad cow. I killed that cow Dec.9. It was processed into hamburger along with 50 other cows and shipped to 8 states and it was eaten by 1000's of people. Some of those people will contract BSE and die.

We took a brain sample from that cow and gave it to the USDA the day we killed her. It took the USDA 2 weeks to get the results back from the lab in Aimes, Iowa. It only took us 1 day to get that meat to market.

Here's a curious thing. At the time when everybody was up in arms about that cow being shipped and eaten the USDA said it couldn't be helped because the test they used takes two weeks to get a result. Now they are saying that any "non-negatives" also known as positives that turn up during the new test procedures using the fast test will be sent to Aimes to be retested using the same test they used on my cow. But now that exact same test will be ready in 24 to 48 hours.

Here's another curious. During the 2 weeks after we killed the mad cow and before it was announced, for no apparent reason, the cattle futures market went crazy. It was as if somebody at the USDA called some of her cow trading friends and had them buy short and sell long. Yet another investigation is underway.

Out of an "abundance of caution" the USDA blocked the import of all beef from Canada after the discovery of a mad cow there. That was in May of 2003. That day at Vern's Moses Lake Meat we had a couple of dozen steers and heifers in the pens. They all had Canadian ear tags. We asked the USDA inspector what to do with them. He made a phone call. He informed us after a short time that the USDA had decided that all Canadian cattle that were on this side of the border were safe to eat. We slaughtered them and a flood of Canadians in the days that followed. No BSE testing was done.

Here is something that out to scare the hell out of anybody who has continued to eat hamburgers since word of the mad cow epidemic came out. We have been sliding into the burger stands and ordering up what we thought was good safe U.S. hamburger. After all BSE is a Canadian problem. Our mad cow was a Canadian. We didn't do anymore testing so the BSE won't be able to find us. What we didn't know was the USDA secretly let their friends in the meat business smuggle in 30,000,000 pounds of Canadian hamburger. Untested hamburger. Hamburger from a place that not even the USDA can deny is contaminated with BSE. 30,000,000 pounds = 120,000,000 quarter pound hamburgers. That's one mad cow sandwich for exactly half the people in the United States.

If you have had a hamburger in the last year you have probably got a belly full of prions. These prions are small and tough. They go through your stomach lining into your blood stream. From there they find nerve tissue in your spinal cord, brain stem, and brain. They live there for a few years eating and multiplying until a few prions turn into billions and then they get down to some serious brain consumption.

You will be moody and unproductive at first. Then you will become very depressed. You will walk funny and be uncoordinated. Your family will think you're drunk or have a drug problem. A visit to the doctor will reveal a brain problem. It will be called genetic or spontaneous. The medicos and the government will be falling all over themselves to deny it's madcow. The doctors do not want to do an autopsy because they may be exposed to the disease and the government won't let them because it might spoil the beef business. You'll fall into a coma and you will die but not before your family has been buried in hospital bills. Better start saving.

A mad cow was found in San Angelo, Texas at a slaughter house. The USDA vet called the district office to see if he could test it. No absolutely not. Kill it and get it out of there quick. Word slipped out. Apparently I'm not the only whistle blower out here. The USDA said well yes we did have a little procedure problem there but don't worry that cow never made it into the food chain. That is the exact same thing they said about my cow. Don't worry they say that cow was sent to the rendering plant and made into pig food, pet food, and cosmetics. If you don't eat meat but you do wear makeup or you take medicine in capsules or gel caps you are also in danger of contracting BSE. The gel in the gel cap is made from rendered mad cows.

Pig Feed. They say it's OK to feed mad cows to pigs because they don't think pigs get mad cow. Dr Stanley Pruisner, the man who discovered prions has told us ALL mammals can get mad cow. A farmer needs some feed for his cows. He goes to the feed store. A sack of cow feed is $14.59. A sack of pig feed is $6.29. He knows the cows can't read. What do you think he is going to buy. Nobody is going to follow him home and make sure he gives that feed to pigs.

His cows are now contaminated. They look perfectly healthy but inside their brains they are developing little pink holes. They'll go to slaughter and no tests will be done because we don't do that. The meat will be cut into steaks and go to the butcher shop. You will go in and you'll ask the butcher if the meat is safe. Of course it is. This is Organic meat from Oregon. It costs more but it's worth it because it's Organic. Sure it is.

Here is the whole point of this tale. 5 months have gone by since I killed the mad cow. 5 months. The USDA has not tested one single solitary beef going into your dinner. Not one. Some meat companies have tried to but Madame Secretary Ann Veneman and her henchmen at the USDA stomped them flat. There is no way they are going to let another mad cow surface. The idea was to hold out long enough that the world, starved of good American beef, would fold and start importing our beef again. That didn't happen. Mexico did cave in. Dr. DeHaven, henchman #1, says all the riskier meat the USDA was smuggling in from Canada was destined for Mexico so it should cause no one here concern. Sorry Senior. Better pick your ministers a little more careful next time. That one sold you out.

Our Government sold us out too. They traded our safety and lives for a hand full of gold. The Big Four meat packers bought the USDA lock, stock, and barrel. The USDA-Food Safety Inspection Service carefully examines each mad cow and passes it if it has no other problems. It's processed into nicely wrapped pieces of meat. You take it home and eat it. The more you eat the more prions you get.

I want to stop this mad cow madness. You can help me. I have talked to all the newspapers and radio and internet shows until I am blue in the face. I went to Olympia, Washington and talked to the Legislature and they changed the law. I went to Sacramento, California and talked to the Senate. They are changing their law. That law allows the meat packers in Ca. to test their beef for BSE. Soon California will own the export business and the beef raisers there will be mega rich. But for the life of me I can't get any network attention. If I could just get the word out on the evening news and some of our favorite daytime talk shows I know I could get this fixed. If you would be kind enough to start calling CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX and tell them who I am and that I have something that needs to be said. Call your Congressperson and tell them that I'm still here and squawking my head off and I need to get into the hearings in D.C. They know me. I talk to them all on the phone and often. I have taught them what questions to ask but that is not the same as standing at the podium and spewing out the cold hard truth.

Any help you people can give me on this will help all of us. If you can help get me there I can take the heat. I can't get there alone. I need all the help I can get. Take care friends.

June 2005: Mad Cow USA - The Cover-Up Begins to Unravel

6/28/2005 USDA ATTEMPT TO BURY MAD COW FAILS - Another case of Mad Cow disease (BSE) in the United States has been confirmed. The cow, apparently from Texas, was originally slaughtered and pronounced free of BSE by the USDA in November 2004, under rather suspicious circumstances. Facing mounting criticism by public interest groups, including the OCA, Consumers Union, and the Center for Media and Democracy, the USDA finally allowed a UK lab to retest the brain, revealing that the animal did, indeed, have the fatal brain wasting disease. Despite warnings by scientists and bans on U.S. beef exports, the USDA still refuses to test more than a tiny fraction of U.S. cattle, and continues to allow the routine feeding of blood, manure, and slaughterhouse waste to farm animals. Consumers, responding to the fact that these risky practices are prohibited on organic farms, are turning in droves to organic and grass-fed beef. In 2004 organic beef sales increased by over 120% in the U.S.

JAPANESE OFFICIALS RESIGN OVER U.S. MAD COW DEBACLE
Despite new cases of Mad Cow disease surfacing in the U.S., Japan is reopening its borders to American beef. As a result of the policy decision half of the members of Japan's beef-safety government advisory panel have resigned. Morikazu Shinagawa, a researcher at the national Institute of Animal Health and a resigning member of the panel, told Kyodo News Service he "couldn't continue to work" on the panel because the conclusion to resume imports was preordained by the government. Japan banned U.S. beef imports in 2003 due to weak beef safety regulations in the U.S. While 100% of cows in Japan, aged 24 months and older, are tested for the Mad Cow disease, only 1% of the 35 million cattle slaughtered annually in the U.S. are tested. Japan recently caved to pressure from the Bush Administration and lift the ban on U.S. beef imports while appointing new "experts" to its beef safety advisory panel.

May 2007: U.S. on mad cow: Don't test all cattle
The Bush administration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease. The Agriculture Department tests less than 1% of slaughtered cows for the disease, which can be fatal to humans who eat tainted beef. But Kansas-based Creekstone Farms Premium Beef wants to test all of its cows. A federal judge ruled in March that such tests must be allowed. The ruling was to take effect June 1, but the Agriculture Department said Tuesday it would appeal — effectively delaying the testing until the court challenge plays out.
